So now he wants to run for governor? They'll probably elect him, they seem to enjoy crack pots!

Good for him ! . . . . .

I love . . . .and don't need to "understand" them . . . that these folks still exist in America.

I bought some motorcycles from one of them from Gibsonia once . . . and I love the spirit.

I know how he can increase his altitude to 35000 feet, reduce the cost to under $500, and have someone serve him a cocktail mid-flight. The coach seat won’t be much gentler on his back, though.

He could've gone higher by buying a ticket on the elevator at the Empire State Building. Just sayin.' Wouldn't've had to be rushed to the hospital afterward, either.

Well what the hell... he did it. He did pretty much exactly what he said he would, allow for variation caused by wind...

I can respect it.

I don't know, 1250' to the observation deck (I assume that's where the elevator tops out) vs 1875' for the rocket, seems like he went a bit further. Plus he was able to get his kicks on route 66.

Yea! Good going!

His goals were modest, only if you consider that the V-2 program blew up a bunch of rockets, some just off the pad, some after they did a u-turn and slammed into the ground just a second or tow after launch.

Robert Goddard blew up a bunch of models before the first successful liquid fueled rocket flew. Models. He never rode one.

Neither did Von Braun.

In fact, the Army, the Navy, and NASA all flew rockets lower than he flew, that blew up, that did NOT have the builder on board. Lots of rockets. Millions of dollars.

Sure, the engineering is better understood now than when Vanguard made a crater on takeoff. But not much.

Brave guy. Might have some risk assessment issues. But who am I to talk? I own a Buell. And a Hang Glider. And a parachute...

My Mother once told me I do entirely too many sports where I wear a helmet.

Good point. Using steam is safer if you don't blow the boiler and he was having trouble getting enough pressure. Hmmm, maybe he should try baking soda and vinegar!

My mockery is not of his rocket, it is of his reason for the rocket, a rocket which is obviated by a trip in a commercial airplane. You know, unless he thinks that sitting next to that many containers of chemtrail would give him fisheye vision anyway.

I still think a balloon would make more sense.
But I guess making sense would mitigate the purpose of this undertaking.

Glad he did it and made it back to earth in one piece. Even if he's outsmarted by a first grader, he still has a cool story to tell his grandkids... wait, he's a cat guy... he has a cool story to tell his cats.

Nitrous and a rubber lined pipe can beat the steam.
