My eyes tell me this is the one for me. My ageing body says NO NO NO!

I like the looks of that one too, but just sitting on one in the showroom told me "NFW." |

Oooop this is true, and they've been shopping it around since last year as well... |

Yep, and we hear about it nearly daily here at work. "when are you getting one"? is a typical call. We're waiting for a dealer show, to see if they're going to build it...although with all the tech bits on it, they're either going to have to dumb it down for production or it'll have one HELL of a price tag. And you think a BUELL exhaust heats up your right leg?? |

That was precisely what I was thinking when I looked at those photos. I swear, before a motorcycle is released to the public for street use, the designers should ride one in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a summer day before making their final decision. |

I wonder if it would sell better than the XR-1000 did? |

WOW! Seems like everyone has sand in their netherparts. I'd even suspect that some of you may even have a pearl or two... I don't know if it's lack of riding. But if it is, I rode my XB12XT Thursday so that I could get it inspected in order to renew the registration. I should've ridden it yesterday, but there was supposed to be some big rains coming - that I think still haven't even made it here. Oh well, one grain of sand for me - already shaken out. I know this will probably increase the grain of sand count for some of you, but it definitely fits into 2018 Motorcycle Porn - and it DEFINITELY isn't a concept.
SAND ALERT (for some...)!
But nothing said it had to be street legal, just 2018 Motorcycle Porn.
Maybe the above will soothe some, or maybe will induce a different kind of sand... |

Sorry if I came across as sandy...not my intention (if that was directed at me). The FTR1200 is a street bike concept, based on the (as you note) currently-existing (and race-winning) FTR750 race bike. I guess I should have phrased it "anxiously awaiting the dealer show" (to find out if they have production plans). And you know I don't have heat complaints about any of my Buells, Brankin...but I posted that for those who do. |

That's Jeffrey Carver's new FTR. It will be fast, I'm sure. There are a lot of top racers who'll be on Indians this season. Coolbeth, Johnson, Carver, Wiles and maybe more as well as Mees, Smith and Baker; who are riding for the factory. History is repeating itself. Indian is doing what Honda did in the 80s. They built a fast bike and bought fast riders and they'll probably dominate flat track for another year or two. Unless Vance & Hines figures out how to make the XG 750 R competitive. With the new frames and new DOHC heads, they might just be able to run with the FTRs. I'd enjoy seeing that. In less than a month, I'll have a pretty good idea of how the updated XG will run. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season. In the meantime, there are a lot of Kawasakis that could be made to go equally fast. Brian Smith was almost untouchable on the Miles before Indian got in the game on his Kawasaki. It would be pretty neat to see a few of them in the mix, as well. Yeah; that induced some sand; also some crushed limestone, clay and the perfect mix that comprises the surface of the Springfield Mile. In 25 more days, the season begins, and I'll be there to watch it! (Message edited by Crusty on February 17, 2018) |

I don't want one, but I give props to the Indian not being just a restyled Scout. Looking forward to a test ride on the Beemer. |

Of all the bikes so far the only one that I like is the concept Indian. It's more "my style" bike I saw a City Cross today There's something about that XB9 engine that just makes me grin I really do miss riding |

On the Indian...I'll believe it when I see it in street form. Most of the exciting concepts and racebikes and up a bland street machine. Not "sandy," just realistic. |

The BMW R9T Racer - that's a bad sign when you look at a picture and start mapping out in your head what you'd do to it... |

It's funny...as I walk through our showroom here at work (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki) I get a kick out of how many new bikes in the sport world are just now catching up to my '95 S2 (and all my other Buells) with the underslung mufflers. And yet, everyone told Erik he was crazy and they were ugly as hell back in the day. |

I seem to remember a video where Erik was explaining that when he decided to build sportbikes around that lump of a Harley Sportster motor, he tried to figure out how to give it a decent lean angle and the only way he could do that was to raise the engine up high. Once he did, he saw all that space underneath and it was the perfect place to put the muffler and shock to keep it out of the way and allow him the shorter wheelbase he was looking for, too. If he had a PROPER sportbike engine to work with, he probably would've never had to resort to that and the other companies wouldn't have those ideas to steal. |

I also remember, way back in the early 80s, Honda trying a radical idea with their 500GP racer. In order to keep the weight low and centralized, they put the gas tank BELOW the engine, which meant they had to route the exhaust and expansion chambers (two stroke, remember) ABOVE it. They figured the exhaust weighed less than a full tank of fuel and this would provide optimum balance. HOWEVER, it didn't take Freddy Spencer long to figure out the bike was UNRIDABLE because of the tremendous amount of heat baking his chest. Needless to say, the design was scrapped. |

What's an inspection? Money making tactic for poor states. For a state that has mandatory annual inspections, I'm amazed at how many cars I've seen without a single functioning brake light... Oh yeah, these poor states also have 'personal property tax' on vehicles, too. State and county get in on that raping. |

I remember when Colorado dropped vehicle inspections in favor of Smog inspections. Rolling junk hit the roads the very next day. It was a dangerous time to be on a motorcycle because of all the crap falling off vehicles. |

Got a new one... I'd been out late afternoon on the Beemer, got a haircut, decided to drop in my favorite bar for a cold one before I got home to dinner. I'm getting ready to leave, and I start hearing "ring-ding-dingding" getting closer... this kid with a safety vest on, rides up on a mountain bike that was rigged with a chainsaw motor and a gas tank on the luggage rack. My jaw hit the ground... I asked him about it, said he'd just got pulled over by Alcoa police, but they let him go. (I don't know the regulations for such a rig.) He just stopped by looking for a friend, then took off right when I did. I decided to follow him down the street, DANG but he was moving!! He said he just took a salvage chainsaw motor, rigged it with a secondary sprocket set, boom. Could make me one for $200. SO tempting... that made my ride! Anyone here seen rigs like that? (RD, I know you've probably made one in your teens...) |

If memory serves, fewer than 50 CCs attached to a two wheeled vehicle that can be operated entirely by pedal power and it's considered a moped. I believe this varies state to state. |

Yeah, I think that's right, even here in TN. He was doing it right, at night, with a orange/reflective vest, LED flashers, etc.... all I know is once I pulled out behind him, he must have been rolling!! On a dang mountain bike/2smoke mutation. Basically a redneck Whizzer. WANT!!! |

"100 new models." Harley sticking to their tried and true strategy of changing wheels and paint and referring to the result as an "All New Model." They were closer to the target with the new Softail line. |
