This was predictable, all the CO2 their private jets generated must have caused the heavy snowfall:

Volcano activity around the Pacific ring of fire.

Let me condemn beforehand any mocking of California's state government if The Big One hits.

Inevitably some BB brain will declare it God's Punishment for the actions of Governor Moonbeam.

It wasn't funny when lefty creeps said the Hurricanes on the East & Gulf coast were the Wrath of a deity the creeps probably don't believe in. It won't be funny if there's a tsunami or overdue big quake on the West coast either.

But in the interest of Fairness, feel free to get it out of your system here & lock that crud down for public comment. ; )

Here, let me start....

Pity the Big One didn't wait until raising taxes emptied the State.

Big One hits California. Thanks to marijuana legalization no one noticed.

CNN headline: Trump Voter makes fun of Governor Brown days before the beloved Governor is killed by tsunami while giving speech on bill making cooperation with law enforcement illegal.

Your turn for bad taste. : )

Maybe the next wave in gambling.

I'm old enough to remember mechanical slots. I have zero trust in the currently popular fake slot machines. The ways to cheat the public in mechanical machines are well known and State gaming commission policing of them is fairly good. There's still a range of casino set odds, and a cottage industry advertising the odds, but outright fraud is relatively rare. Video slots have proprietary software where inspectors would have to be serious nerds with access to source code. Thus, zero trust from me.

I expect to lose at gambling. I understand house odds. Casinos count on people not understanding. ( or they wouldn't play ) As you might guess, I hit a casino maybe twice a decade, & set myself a spending limit before I stop and hit the buffet. I'm not their customer base.

But action games? My mother and her sisters spent hours playing Snap, a fast paced card game. ( while gossiping at equally high speed ) So such games have great potential. Even better let me kill zombies with a tiny hope of prizes! Give the gamer generation a chance of skill based victory and you've got a money maker.

Even uber cynical gamblers like me, who understand statistics, might increase the profits for the casinos if you entertain me.

Spinning wheels is nostalgic. Fake spinning wheels are a turn off. ( to me, at least ) Defending the planet, or the candy kingdom, with rewards? THAT'S a money maker.

Pseudo-related to the "winter is coming"...flu sucks,

No.

Flu SUCKS.

Went to work Tuesday. Felt fine. Mid-morning, slight cough starting. Bought some airborne and kept at work. Got home around 8, grabbed some 18 year old single malt (medicinal) to combat the feeling of a growing fever.

Could. Not. Get. Out. Of. Bed.

Slept - according to my Fitbit - for more than 19.5 hours on weds.

Fever - once i was able to get up enough to get a thermometer, around 8pm - was 100.7. It had been much higher during the day as I tossed and turned in bed.

Thursday...got progressively better. Horsed down a frozen pizza around 5. Been downing night- and day-quil since weds night. Worked today - dragging, but not "sick", just out of shape as far as sleep cycle goes.

This ones a fast mover folks. And it hits HARD. I don't get sick. This one floored me within eight hours. No, I don't get flu shots - again, I don't get sick. But if you catch this one...take it seriously. Stay HOME, don't share it, feed it NyQuil and vitamins, and REST. It'll roll through quickly enough, but it'll suck while you're down.

Love these up and down temps!!

http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/01/26/video-goo gle-home-assistant-refuses-define-jesus-christ-def ines-muhammad-buddha/

Google erases God. The incredible power Google has is mind boggling.

I got the flu shot. Every year. I'm exposed to everything. This year the shot doesn't prevent the very serious flu. It's not that Big Pharmaceutical is evil, the vaccines are prepared long before they find out which strain will come out of China each year. ( lousy food industry and bronze age farming. China has been the annual plague creator for centuries )

Hoping to avoid this one by simply being a hermit and avoiding hospitals. It's a killer.

For 25 years I've lived with being in the most at risk job sector and prime disease vector. I'm exposed to a bigger variety of imported diseases than anyone except health care and poverty workers. ( my volunteer first aid work isn't as exposed as my day job ) I get a few cold each year and usually fight them off fast. I don't use symptom relief drugs. ( some whiskey & honey & chicken soup ) I'm exposed and immune to a lot of international stuff. But the flu is it's own monster. Just luck and basic hygiene.

Anecdote. Stopped for lunch and visited bathroom. Washing hands, I wet & soap. Another person comes in and takes care of business. I step aside to let him wash up, still rubbing soapy hands. Guy looks at me funny, asks wtf? "Do you know how soap works?" I get blank look. "soap changes the surface effect and kills bacteria, but it takes a minute". Oh! Expression. "I've been delivering packages from China, India, and Yemen. Some of it very spicy food from home. Now I want to eat without that on my hands" look of absolute terror & flees.

Welcome to my life, buddy.

More flu headlines. If I didn't have a working memory I'd be scared. But there were flu headlines last year, & the year before &............

& people died!

Every year.

If your loved one died of the flu you have my sympathy.

In 1918 most people lost a loved one to the flu. Bad plague. And it will happen again. Different strain probably, different spread pattern. Probably from China, because that's where plagues come from. It's a statistical certainty. If you have the most people you start the most plagues.

1500 years ago, more or less, the Emperor of Rome decided to reunite the Empire. The center had become Constantinople, and the Italian part was occupied by Huns or Goths or Emos, one or more of those groups that we still use the name to scare folk that civilization is falling. So they had a big war. Swept across the Mediterranean and freed Rome from it's occupation and no doubt wrecked the lives of fourth generation Goths who thought they were Roman just because they lived there.

As wars go, it had clever strategies and tactics, since the Emperor had one of the greatest Generals of all time, ( one that guys like Rommel & Patton read obsessively ) & the battles were big and bloody and the kind they write textbooks about.

But few remember the war.

Why?

Because in the days before mechanical transport when an Army came through they bought all the food. Good Armies paid for it. You send an army halfway across Europe, and people go hungry halfway across Europe. Malnutrition lowers the immune system. A plague came through from.... China. Far more people died of the plague ( probably a flu ) than died in the war. It was a major kick in the system that led to the Dark Ages and left Europe a s---hole for generations. This despite brilliant military moves that killed surprisingly few people and in other times would have generations of text books written about. Unfortunately most of Europe couldn't read a generation later.

Only scholars and buffs even know that war happened. If they do they just mention it as a contributing factor in the fall of civilization. By plague.

So far this year's flu doesn't look like a civilization killer.

So if you live through it you should be able to return to normal life, just threatened by nuclear war, cities burning as illegal immigrants demand ransom, and news reports that meat eaters are Nazis that want your children to die of freezing to death by causing Global Warming.

Good times. A golden age. ; )

A system to make a profit from imaginary fuel, for the Wall Street folk that bribed Obama.

A system to crush competition, for the big refinery companies that bribed Obama.

Big money for agribusiness that bribed Obama.

Win win win. Not for consumers, they didn't bribe Obama.

There are other factors involved, ideology, greed, virtue signaling, and don't forget the small engine yard tool industry, when you have to replace equipment ruined by ethanol. But the unifying framework, the entry fee, the thing in common, is the winners gave generously to one party and one man.

So if the groundhog sees his shadow it's 6 more weeks of winter - right?

What if it's so bleepin' cold when they drag him out of his nice warm den that he bites everyone gathered?

Whatever you do..... don't run a culture on the reusable shopping bags. Those should be washed with bleach every use. If not, the leaking meat juices and vegetable dirt make them worse than most people's toilets.

Note to self..... buy more toilet bleach units.

We live in a bad Syfy movie. Your home could be destroyed by mad scientists "saving the world". Weather control efforts to change the climate can have consequences. Rain making tech has already given us examples of flash floods from cloud seeding. Not to mention Soviet genius level disasters like using nukes to put out gas well fires. ( didn't work, spread fallout )

Hey, I'm cynical about our understanding of a complex system enough to safely manipulate it. When disagreement with a theory is judged by political justification instead of evidence, & objections to loss of rights is heresy punishable by imprisonment and death? Then you KNOW all aspects of a geoengineering project haven't been considered.

It's not the numbers, it's the Eugenics aspect. Simple numbers, you are right, no real difference. Improving the species, however, every little bit helps.

I'm not trying to breed supermen. Just delay Idiocracy.

Not sure about that. Medicine is pretty bad in those places. If you've got a genetic issue, you'll likely die before you pass on those genes. Not so in the west. We're getting weaker, genetically, than people with little access to modern medicine. Evolution isn't making us stronger any longer; there's no evolutionary pressure in the west. People with congenital defects whose children, and their children, etc. will require surgery immediately post birth in order to live see nothing wrong with having those children. If I had such a condition, I would accept that I'm an evolutionary dead end, and get snipped.

Actually your argument dovetails with mine. The decadent West ; ) aka Civilization, by nature is anti-evolution as we protect the weak. This has been complained about for centuries.

My issue with Eugenics is simply "who decides?". Hitler? Chuck Schumer?

So progressives voluntary elimination from the pool is both ethical and useful. ( if credulous idiocy is genetic )

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/02/report _climate_change_worst_case_scenario_ruled_out.html

Base your predictions on coal supplying 94% of the world's energy?

That's possible in a Thunderdome scenario where civilization is only one town with a coal mine. ( a great example of monopoly )

I hate to tell these Greenies that if their dream scenario comes true, where a Satan Bug kills all of mankind, leaving Gai to heal with the fluffy bunnies, that there'd still be a problem with coal burning.

In Pennsylvania and China coal seams that reach the surface have been ignited, leaving slow burning doom eating the seams. In PA, towns have been abandoned and a project to dig a slit trench in front of the fire through the seam to make a fire break is ongoing. China has multiple fires, from a Great Leap Forward program that demanded coal production, & every little village near a coal seam went and dug a pit by hand to send coal to their masters in Beijing. ( never mind food, the Party has spoken )

While there is some effort to stop the fires near "real" government controlled coal mines, the problem is so widespread and the government so dishonest that hundreds of unreported fires burn in secret. It's even a problem for the Satellite spy agencies of the West, who can see the smoke and heat and have to document the spread so they don't mistake a sudden heat spike as an ICBM launch. Or mistake a deep burning seam as an underground bunker complex.

Leaving the only people who understand the scope of the disaster the People's Republic leadership, who lie as a religious matter, ( also, practically, they keep their power ) & Western intelligence agencies, who are told to keep quiet so the West can buy cheap Chinese products and imagine they can sell to the biggest captive market on Earth.

Pennsylvania may or may not burn a big, but limited part of a State. China IS burning it's way to massive fires on a scale not seen by mankind.

Don't expect to read much about this. It's hard to do investigate journalism in China. They kill you.

Awesome clip.
Missed a lot of those at that time... 6 month cruise we lost contact with the US.

One time out, I was rotating our VHF antenna and pulled in a crystal clear live shot of the Shuttle separating from the 747 for the first time.
The ET shop went nuts!

Missed a lot from 79-81.
