The shopping cart should be zip tied to the PASSENGER side...less likely for a vacuous driver to notice in time. Another neat trick, if you have a 1/2" Dewalt 18v impact gun and the right socket in your car with you - remove just the lug nuts. Even one wheels' worth will get some fun results! | ||

I overlooked the ziptie idea.   I'm aware of one or several morons who routinely speed through the neighborhood- makes me want to grab them out of the car, pinch their head off, and shit down their neck. The more sane solution is to locate the car, utilize a valve stem removal tool, take all their valve stems out and duct-tape them to the windshield with a proper notification of their douchebaggery. It could happen anyday. | ||

Yeah, but- that bowling ball would become a dang dangerous projectile at that point, and liability/causality could easily point back... Maybe the good ole' potato in the tailpipe(s) would suffice. | ||

When I was in college, they installed speed humps (not bumps) down the access road that led to my apartment complex as it was also a short cut between the highway and a shopping mall. That was great. For a good month, we just sat on our balcony drinking beer and watching all of the asshats slam into the hump at high rates of speed. Got to see quite a few airborne adventures, along with MANY broken suspension parts and exhausts....LOL | ||

Yeah- they've got them in a few of the neighborhoods over in Alcoa, but it's apparently impossible to get the city or anyone to put them in nowadays. I live right next to a small neighborhood park- several months ago when it was still warm, we watched some dingbat FLYING toward us (mine's a pass-through street to, dangit), blow the stopsign 4-way without touching her brakes, and hit a small rise after the sign SO hard she bottomed out the front and rear suspension! Driving like the devil was chasing her, foot THROUGH the floor... I called 911 on the beeatch. Went to a neighborhood meeting to discuss it, still nada. It'll take someone's kid getting hit before anything happens, I'm sure. Sorry (not sorry) about the highjack... | ||

Many municipalities are refusing to install speed bumps/hump because asshats that speed through them and ruin their suspension are suing, and winning, for damages. Even the fire departments are vetoing speed bumps because it affects their ability to respond to emergencies in a timely manner. How do I know? I am the president of our road association and have had to deal with this exact issue. We are in a somewhat different situation because we are on a private road and manage our own repairs and improvements. We have 3 speed bumps installed at the beginning of our road and all 3 are in a 1 block stretch that leads down our hill before a sharp left turn to avoid the 50' drop into the creek (or the old growth redwood with multiple car scars). When we paved several of our roads, we removed the rest of the bumps to appease several of us with lowered cars. My method of slowing people down in front of my house was to sit on my stairs and roll a kickball down my stairs as a car was speeding through. Every time the offending speeder slammed on their brakes and it only took a few times for them to get the message. One young lady had to be convinced by her parents to slow down or lose car privileges. Since the road in front of my house is a dead end, cars have to come back by my house and in one extreme situation, I blocked the road with my car when the speeder came back, and I had a nice discussion with him before I let him by. I think it was Car and Driver magazine that told a story of how this guy would park his high dollar hot rod way out in the parking lot so nobody would park next to him. Some jerk parked right next to him making it hard to get into the driver's door. He went to his trunk and pulled out some lineman pliers that are like giant side cutters. They clip off valve stem like 16 gauge wire! After clipping off two valve stems on the drivers side the leaning car gave him more room to get into his. BRILLIANT! | ||

That's the same idea as a sharp chisel and a mallet. When I was a service writer and the guys were doing tire jobs and the stems were old, they simply got the chisel against the base of the stem and gave it a whack. Sliced it neat as you could want, and a WHOLE lot faster (think "flat rate") than screwing around trying to pull it out whole... | ||

I am very much against doing damage to someones property. however lol... I have been know to remove the valve stem cores from a car and leave them neatly in a baggie on the hood. Not many people carry that tool, so it's highly inconvenient to them  without any 'damages'. I have also used 20lb blocks of ice as jack stands in the summer and removed all 4 wheels. I did put the tires in a neat stack and the lugs back on the studs though because I'm such a nice guy  An ex-employee found his driveshaft in his own trunk once... and those little styrofoam balls that come in a beanbag? The pour nicely right down the defroster duct  |
