She wants to buy me one of the high mileage cars (Ford Fiesta) that they use as company vehicles.

This resulted in a tirade from me that led to a drawn out exchange.

She's thinking this:

This is more along my tastes:

Neither is happening anytime soon.

I'd buy another bike before a car, yet...and we can't afford what I'd want to drive at this time, anyway.

My wife got herself a Mazda CX3 and it gets almost 40 MPG with 87 octane.
If you're tall like me, do not get one.
Otherwise, I am pretty impressed by it for $22K

Since you're not from up north, I would guess you don't give a crap about the AWD though.

That's amazing mileage.

She went to a dealership to check one of those out, but left with a Mazda3 GT.

She gets about 28mpg as she's always in sport mode with stop and go traffic.

SUV's are not for me. I like maneuverable little cars with decent power. The idea of a "monster" Miata intrigues me.

I've got a 2016 Fiesta with alloy rims on it, 21k miles on the clock. 4 cylinder, sport shift, hands free package, etc...

It's white like the one you posted, but with actual rims, not hubcaps.

Take over payments. Let me know. I'll deliver it.

edit:.... 40mpg average.

Two years ago, I bought a car for the family (2000 Dodge Intrepid in excellent shape, leather, 3.2 v6, etc) at auction for $1400. My wife was pissed, but eventually conceded that it was the better option, since it meant no car payments. But she said that the next vehicle we get will be her car, and it will be something she wants. Since then, I've bought 15 motorcycles and was gifted a truck. There's more to the story, but this portion of it is funny as hell, and is why I'll be buying her the car she wants in March, which atm a Blue Prius C. I'm hoping to talk her into a regular Prius, or most anything else, but she will get what she decidedly wants, since I kinda owe it to her lol.

I went almost 20 years owning only one car (a 2001 mustang GT that died after 15k miles) until I got my last job and had to have a cage to transport customers. In that time, the SO got 3 new cars and a motorcycle, in addition to the FJ40 she already owned. And a pool.

In that same time I have had a used Mustang, 3 motorcycles (used) and a used ATS (best car I have ever owned). When I bought my Firebolt without letting her know, she bitched a little until I _reminded_ her about the cars she has gotten (all new) and that I have still spent less money than her.

When I got the Mustang and then the ATS, she wanted me to buy a pickup. I reminded her that she got to choose the cars she wanted to drive (all manual Subaru's)... She's got her eye on the Ranger that Ford is re-releasing and specifically the Raptor model for her next vehicle since Subaru stopped making manual Outbacks.

I've been married 29 years. In that time she's had a Mercury Cougar, 2 Jaguars, a Land Rover, Infiniti G35 coupe, and 3 Mercedes E class (OK, the 2nd was totaled by her idiot son-in-law).
My reason for marrying her? She told me she was "cheap to keep". Plus she's a good cook.

Do not, under any circumstances, buy an automatic shift Fiesta or Focus unless you understand what you are getting into! Google fiesta dual clutch problem, same with focus. And yes, I have dealt with this and the run around from the dealer. And my brother just got a second set of clutches replaced in his.

Now if you want manual shift, my Fiesta has been pretty good.

I can chime in on the DCT issues... Don't. Just don't. Get the manual.

If you're looking at the Fiesta, take an ST for a test drive. It's the same class as a Mini Cooper S, but responds REALLY well to based mods and a tune.

Anyone here try one of those "Chevy" cruises made by Daiwoo?
Those turbo diesel models get sick miles.

I'm tempted to try a test drive even though I have no intention of actually buying one.

I haven't driven a car for over a decade. Not in too much of a hurry.

Maybe I can ask for a substitute.

She must have the patience of a saint.

My wife has no tolerance for my shenanigans.

She's been having to shuttle me to and fro work since I separated my shoulder (1hr plus per trip), and has had enough of it.

I can probably ride, but my replacement muffler is backordered for a few more weeks. The specialist told me it was probably a blessing

I've resorted to cutting off the smashed end of the muffler and making due with what I've got.

That's quite a fleet...which reminds me...I'm supposed to go to school and get a career so she can get her BMW

This is my current interest:

My Wife got a 2016 Nissan Versa Note from Enterprise rent a car. it had low miles when she got it. It averages 42.5 with her driving it and even I find it not so bad.

We had a mini cooper a few years ago. If you get one do not get the auto trans. I hated it with a passion.

Small cars and autos have always been a bad decision.

When the wife had a Honda Fit, I believe the sales statistic was 85% of them sold with an auto.

Her current car is an auto. It's a conventional transmission with real gears and such instead of a CVT, at least.

My wife prefers more horsepower in a small car and squeezing even more out of it with performance upgrades. The 135I should be around 425hp now just in case a young punk want to show off his power she'll most likely smoke them.

I'll throw something out there you won't normally hear from a gearhead. How about a Chevy Volt? My commute sucks.....120 miles round trip. I wanted something fuel efficient, but not to the point that I wanted to kill myself every time I got behind the wheel. I stumbled onto the Volt and after a little research, a big spreadsheet, and a nice long test drive, I was sold. Bought a new 2016 and have had it for 16 months and 42k miles so far. I can't imagine a better run around or commuter car. It gets about 50 miles on the battery, then kicks in the gas engine to run as a generator. I can charge at work and am running about 73% all electric. With the gas engine running, mine has never got me less than 50mpg and I drive it pretty hard. I put about 8 gallons of gas in it every 1000-2000 miles. Fun part is that it has 300 ftlbs of torque from 0rpm and is whisper silent due to the electric drivetrain and CVT. The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times aren't super impressive on paper, but in real world driving its pretty hard to beat. There are very few vehicles on the road that it won't roast off the line or to a merge point in traffic.

We like little and powerful . . . 354HP . . .

She's down from 515HP . . . . but the S5 is a rocket ship. I can't imagine what the 425HP is like in the 135!.

Make your friend runs oil catch cans on the engine breathers systems or the intake on the head will plug up with oil deposits. BMW tell you to c,ean the heads intake out every 40k.

I have a fiesta hatch that looks very similar to the one pictured, white too.

Ive seen as high as 54mpg on the highway
I average 42mpg

Heck, I took a quick trip up to EBR (14 hours each way...in 36 hours) and even with a cargo hatch full of Buell/EBR goodies i still averaged over 40mpg on that trip, which included some mountains of NC/WV etc

The wife likes the horsepowers, but complains about the fuel mileage of her moderately sporty vehicle.

I've always had a little bit of a thing for the Z4. Don't know if I'd ever own one, though.

The kid has a thing for the Nissan Z. Can't fault him there, though it's not my style.

It jumped about $30 a month. It would all depend on what electricity costs where you live. I don't honestly know what it costs me to charge it right now, but when I first bought it I had it figured at $1.22 for a complete charge. That charge gets me about 40 miles in the dead of winter, and about 60 miles in the spring/summer/fall.

Everywhere i have looked the standard answer is the same. "Based on your electricity costs where you live".

You said you charge it at work also so would it be fair to estimate it takes roughly $60 a month in addition to your gas expenses.

Of course home electric use varies but people going this far to be green or economize usually track every expense quite closely. This question has made some folks defensive.

I Can tell you my pool pump costs $20 a month on average and if I utilize my coke machine it takes just under $20 monthly. Just curious about the actual impact on real cost of use. Gas and electricity use calculated to dollars per mile.

My old 89 M3 runs an oil separator. I guess they don't do that anymore? If not maybe he could add one. I'll pass that on, Thanks!

That would be fair if it was all coming out of my pocket. My work charging is free. If I couldn't charge at work, I would be burning quite a bit more gas than I am now. Its a tough equation to share because it really comes down to your own personal driving habits. For instance, if my wife drove it instead of me. She drives 15 miles each way to work and would not be able to charge work. In that case, the car would need less than a full charge everyday and we would never have to put gas in it unless we took it on longer trips or the car burned it off to prevent it going stale. If you want to see real world stats from the volt, check out voltstats.net. It anonymously accesses the ONStar data that is fed into the system by Chevy Volts out in the wild (if the owner chooses it to). It was a huge help when researching them. I dug around until I found some local users that had similar distance commutes. Here is my car if you are interested
