The other week I bought 3 sleds. A '73 Yamaha gp 292B and 2 '73 Yamaha el 433's

I got one of the EL's running (not very good), the other is stuck, and I bought the 292 just for the motor. I'll part out the rest. The EL's have high and low range and electric start.

Sleds, much like Buell's, are always on my mind.

Since the beginning of July alone, if our rain totals would have been converted to snow totals, we would have more snow in July than all of last year.

Haydays is less than a month away! Time to start making the shopping lists, and cleaning up the sleds for a flip. I have noticed the Facebook sled trading groups have already lit up! I even added "free delivery to Haydays" to my motorcycle ads. It always opens up potential buyers from Wisconsin and Iowa

Temps in NE Minnesota were down in the Mid 30's overnight last week! We put on wetsuits while wakeboarding yesterday.

Not that it was real cold, but cool enough. Leaves are changing in quite a few places. Small grains are almost all harvested.

The planets align, and we sit for a few months waiting for snow!

SXS Season!!!!

We have snow in the forecast for NW North Dakota. It won't accumulate like it is currently in Montana right now.

I see lots of pics so far of a half foot in Red Lodge! The forecast says 2ft of snow above 8000ft!!

Here comes winter. We have dropped almost 40 degrees since Wednesday!!

Since the snowmobile freaks are on this thread; what's a good winter jacket? I ride year round, and I need a warm & waterproof cold weather jacket. What would you recommend?

I got a Scorpion EXO jacket 4 years ago.
3 full sleeve layers, ridden to 17 degrees F and comfy.
Way better than ANY leather I've owned.

Crusty, are you referring to Winter Bike or Winter Sled jacket?

We are cold weather trail riders, and what is considered cold weather on sleds is much different than the cold weather jacket I use on my bike.

My Bike cold weather jacket is lined, but not waterproof, as I will wear rain gear in the very few times I ride when it is cold and wet.

For the sled, all my gear is Klim GoreTex and designed for riding in -20f and usually wet. So GoreTex is a must.

Since we are trail riders, our jackets, pants and gloves even have thicker insulation on the backside of gloves and front side of jackets and pants. We have heated grips and many times heated seats, or the heat from the sled can help. But exposure to this cold at the speeds we drive can be dangerous if not fatal.

Mountain riders will wear lighter and less insulated gear.

I just tried on my new Klim GoreTex boots. I am jacked to try them out this season!

Glitch,

We are in full-on Fall here in MN. Colors are amazing everywhere, and the cool weather is here.

We saw lows in the 30's, but it's mostly down into the 50's.

That photo was posted by the folks at Giants Ridge, which is a golf/ski resort up on the Iron Range.

Central MN has seen quite a bit of color as well. Of course in MN, this means temps dropped in the 30's and are now back up in the 70's. Tornado warnings last night. Mother Nature and truly be a . (that's our sled group joke)

Full on color mode up here in North Central MN!! I have had the grip heaters on for my Buell ride each morning to work!!

Last weekend we did some SXS trail riding and had a great show in the trees. Some areas were peaking, others were still quite green. It was amazing the range of color

I'm starting to gear up, just ordered the main pipe, reeds and tuner for my M8000. (already had a silencer on it, and end of last season put springs, helix and adjustable weights in the clutches, along with a different Y-pipe) Also picked up some spare hood pieces because i think im going to do a headlight delete on it. shave a little more weight off the frontend. And, i just simply like the look as well.

Dad just hauled my enclosed trailer with the zr900 and the Prowler back here from their place in Wisconsin for me, so i could get some things done on those as well.

Yup, the season is rolling along for sure. Pulled dock and boat lift this past Saturday.

Winterized and Power washed waverunners and the boat is ready to be washed and winterized next. Then the sleds can come home.

I have little prep for the season, other than to test fit some mountain skis on my trail sled. I got them cheap enough to use for those few days per year in the deep. WOO WOO!!

Well, it was 39 degrees on my ride to work this morning. Had the GoreTex gloves on and the heaters blazing. That may have just put a fork in my Buell riding season.

It's supposed to be 70 this afternoon, but the temp swings are upwards of 40 degrees between night and day. We have full potential for snow when the next batch of moisture rolls through. I am seeing strong indications of 10-12" of snow on the ground over the next month for the Northern half of MN. That could be strong sledder speculation as well.

This past weekend we went out "inspecting" sled trails and enjoying the fall color. We saw anything from green trees, to bright colors, to trees with no leaves at all. It's all over the board. All in all, a great ride with friends.

WOO WOO, this year's Haydays Video is up!

So Macy and I along with here friend Jaydyn, made our annual trip to North Branch, MN. For the 51st Annual Haydays Grass Drags and Swap meet.

Of course, anyone who knows this event knows it is the largest snowmobile show on the planet. Every pro and enthusiest from the country is in attendance.

This year we missed the Terra Cross, but got a chance to see quite a bit of everything else.

Ski-Doo had a mechanical bull setup. We saw the FMX show which included bikes, sleds and ATV's.

Check it out for yourself next September

So we got another color run in this past weekend. Most of the leaves up North have fallen.

My wife and I rode miles of trails back to a trout lake in the woods. You could have never gotten there with a truck and boat, but wouldn't you know there was a boat landing there!

Here is a treat for us sledheads, First Winter Storm watch has escalated to a Blizzard warning! 2-6" of snow possible and 50mph winds. Goodbye fall!

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT... BLIZZARD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE. TRAVEL COULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE. DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES IS POSSIBLE. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE, WITH LOCALIZED AMOUNTS UP TO 4 INCHES. * WHERE... PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST MINNESOTA, WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA, NORTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA AND SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA. * WHEN... FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 60 MPH COULD CAUSE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS IN BLOWING SNOW. SIGNIFICANT DRIFTING OF THE SNOW IS ALSO POSSIBLE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER STORM WATCH FOR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND/OR BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES. THIS CAN LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND MAKE TRAVEL VERY DANGEROUS

I got distracted being on the hunt for a few specific parts(and the deal i wanted on them) at haydays this year and still didnt end up meeting up Mark... lol. one of these years!

ive been making some progress on a few changes to my mountain sled. i decided i was going to do a headlight delete this year. mostly because i wanted to. although the headlight itself does weigh 3 pounds... (oooh, 3 hole pounds they say...! lol)

had to cut the headlight mounts off, so no going back. although i did pic up a spare center section at haydays incase i wanted to go back stock

i had to do alot of trimming actually. they were trying to tell me i couldnt use the stock air intake horns, with the molded plastic delete panel i picked up. also said i couldnt use stock switches and i wouldnt be able to have my goggle bag... I think i am proving them wrong ; )

This is just a mock up so far. i have to do some drilling and riveting to put the delete panel in place. I also have a black air intake piece i picked up second hand, on the way i think it will hid the vents away better and have just the green windscreen on there instead of all green. plus im going to leave it as on piece and trim just enough to let the gauge peek through. that way the hole between the gauge and the windscreen will be filled in. also holding less snow...

after i get this wrapped up i have a new chamber pipe, reeds and tuner to put on it as well. already threw a y-pipe, silencer and clutch kit on it. y-pipe and clutches were after the last ride last year so havent gotten to try them)

I can understand cutting weight, or just making it look badass. But what happens when you get miles away from the lodge and the sun starts setting?

While in the Bighorns last year, we came in on fumes and headlights most nights. Not the smartest plan, but we were having just way too much fun!

PS: We got our snow last weekend too! 95 miles in 3-5" of snow. 4-5" more by Monday they are saying. And for sure over the next week. I hope to see a foot by Thanksgiving!!!

WOO WOO!!

"I can understand cutting weight, or just making it look badass. But what happens when you get miles away from the lodge and the sun starts setting?"

well, there will be provisions for that. I was looking into some very small led pod lights. it's amazing how much brighter many of those are then a stock headlight anyway (that one in my RR bumper is super bright)

i found some that will click right into a go pro mount. which would be convenient, then i could just have a plug in for it and good to go when i pull it out of the backpack.

buuut, i am leaning more towards something like this instead.

https://frankensled.com/collections/lights/product s/backcountry-8-4-flashlight-kit

much more versatile, and the responses im getting from other riders is that alot of them use this helmet flashlight setup and love it. super light weight, plus more mobile. and works even if im having a bad day, and the sled doesnt work... lol. as well as obviously having the light where im looking being a nice bonus.

As for your fun in the wildcat, NICE!!!

Although, didnt the ground need to be ALOT more frozen before getting all this snow... that doesnt usually work out to well in the long run otherwise :-(
