Good point, Roadcrust. It'd be more useful to be concerned about the condition of one's rain gear and such, just in case.  Mine's fine! Even waterproofed my boots and gloves a few months back. Might waterproof a pair of my winter gloves in a day or 2. DANG but that stuff stinks to high Heaven... | ||

I like weather. I'm planning on a 2:00PM to 5:00PM window for arrival. Map says 6 hour trip time. I am planning stops every 100 miles for fuel = 3 stops. At least one with food. Pretty much slabs. 100 miles on 74. Turn right at Cincinnati onto 75 and run Lil Red into Knoxville. 8:14 sun rise on Thursday. 80% light rain early with 10 to 15 SSW winds at approx. 56 degrees. Perfect weather! | ||

Riding in the rain, with the mindset that your bike and gear are prepared, actually slows me down and brings me peace. RD, that sounds ideal. I'll have some other friends over as well for some kind of cookout and dinner. Will apprise as the days progress. | ||

Highway 60 from the stone pile to Woody Gap where the Appalachian trail crosses is the section of road that GA DOT is working on.I road up Sunday and counted 31 trenches running perpendicular to the road with 3 more lined out yet to be completed.Most were somewhat jarring a couple were not bad,some were pretty severe.The road will still be in it's current condition this weekend.Without long travel suspension it's not a very pleasant ride.The rest of the roads in the area are in the same condition they were the last time you guys were here. | ||

Aww... OK then. That's just the few miles running south on GA60, uphill, and approaching tourists anyhoo. This time of year, actually that sounds ideal for us yayhoos on motorsickles. Gotta slow down! I never really trusted the pavement between Suches and Dalhonega, but I lernt to like it. | ||

Brad,you don't live here,that stretch is one of the most fun runs in the area.When they first put the tar snakes down they were mounded up and when hot they could be treacherous.Over time they leveled out and are not much of a problem anymore. | ||

Flat or not, tar snakes give me the heebie jeebies... I really don't enjoy that stretch of pavement, I use it to get from point A to B. But a slow ride on tar snakes is better than the best day at work... so don't take it as a complaint! | ||

I mentioned I bunny hopped my Uly on a ADV thread and was told I was a liar. Thanks Ourdee for the video, if you can do it on a sport bike the Uly is easy! I wasn't on flat ground but trying to get past a guy in a truck so long he couldn't get around the hairpins going up Engineer Pass in Colorado! I jumped a foot and a half high ledge, landed on the rear wheel and continued the wheelie. I normally wouldn't try this but I was pissed because this guy would not let me get around him. Sometimes I forget what I'm riding and revert back to riding trials in the 70's!! At my age you would call that STUPID! | ||

I'm with ya Mike, the road and the views on that segment are awesome! And yeah, those tar snakes definitely will slow you down, but that's not a bad thing, given that you'll soon be on Richard Russell Pky or something... Generally, it's the cagers on that stretch that will sloooowww you down, dangit. | ||
