Wish we could let this thread go, but.... watching the news right now, someone tried a pipe bomb in Port Authority during AM rush today. Thank God it detonated early - one injured plus the bomber. Who, by the way, is ALIVE and in custody. Here's hoping they're smart enough to treat them like the war-enemy they are, and not mirandize them. This is not a bank robbery; they don't deserve a lawyer, or any of the protections this great nation offers our citizens. People like this fight against everything we stand for; they are, in the truest sense of the word, our ENEMY. They need to be treated as such. Thank God for incompetent terrorists. | ||

Be nice, it's not easy to make an explosive that goes off reliably when you want it to and doesn't blow you up early, like at home. Ask the Weather Underground... the ones that didn't die, like Obama's mentor Bill Ayers. Frankly, I'm usually glad that making bombs at home is a hazardous activity that kills stupid people. ( unless they take others with them ) Think of it as evolution in action. | ||

I was a fan of Paolo Soleri years before Oath Of Fealty. Arcosanti is on my bucket list to visit. Archologies are something I want to build but not live in. Unless it's Todos Santos and I can hang glide in the mall. | ||

I visited Arcosanti on a road trip (in a car, with Mom) it has gotten a shabby around the edges, and is now sparely popluated but there were still some groovy people hanging out in the little dwelling units playing guitar and stuff. | ||

There are different mindsets between "eastern" ( Islamic ) and "western" ( European based ) cultures and terrorism. Traditional eastern terrorism involves killing civilians with the goal of scaring the population into not opposing the terrorist group. Simple, brutal, effective in a peasant mindset society. ( might be quite sophisticated, but same goals ) Western terrorism is different. You attack civilians to goad the government into over reacting and crank up oppression that the people will revolt against. This comes from an understanding of how limited the destruction power of tiny groups is and seeks leverage as a force multiplier. This division is, of course, an oversimplification. But it points towards likely targets. If I planned attacks on America I'd target infrastructure and go for widespread carnage to leverage my goal of alienating the people from government. A "eastern" terrorist would make it personal with subway & market attacks to make you fear Them. |
