I'm biased toward the issue.

I've always believed the NFL is a colossal waste of time and money. People spend outrageous amounts of time money on something that makes no difference whatsoever. People get so excited AND bent out of shape over people and events that in no way affect ANYTHING in REAL LIFE.
Football is fun to play, boring to watch. I'd rather devote my time and resources to something real.

Yeah, I was biased before all this political crap started.

Feel like disrespecing your country? Then move the F O. If you don't love it, leave it.

I gave up on the NFL when Pat Bolin fired Dan Reeves and kept whiner Elway.

Nobody says foootbol like Dan.

Since I don't know who you are talking about you can guess my fan status.

I enjoy the game. I don't buy the product. I honestly watch the Super bowl for the commercials.

That said the political idiocy of the jock news folk is costing them millions. The "protest" bit is pure diva "look at me!".

I was with the black power salute at the Olympics before many here were born. Pride is good. Fake victim play from millionaire jocks? Bite me. Fake, dishonest, exploitation racist victim play? Up yours.

As far as the tweeting game show host goes. Don't bother to watch his show. Just waiting to see the results of his job. Mixed reviews so far. Congress? Failing grade.

I hate the fact that my taxes go to help build stadiums.

There's more than one way to look at this.

But simply, these folk choose not to honor the nation because it is not perfect. No kidding. They have a right to free speech.

They may be, and in most cases are, dead freaking wrong on their actual facts that they base their protest of imagined reality on. They have been fooled by professional hate mongers who ultimately want to rip off or murder them. You could make a case that they are only victims of the liars that steal their fame to destroy our freedoms. Useful idiots.

But they have the right to be diva jerks who blow more money on fast cars and drugs than I make in a lifetime.

I have the right to not pay them. So I don't buy their stuff, and don't contribute to their ratings. ( which determines how much the company gets paid )

I can't do much about the Stadium business, except protest to my politician. The pitch is that the local/state government will make more in taxes from the increased business that having a Stadium generates. That may be true in some cases.

Then it goes political. The local minor league baseball stadium was placed for many reasons other than cheap land or business development. It's in a very poor 'hood. There were stupid choices, like having no shade or rain cover over the seats, compromises on how it was laid out to the detriment of some other sports, etc. In addition to the politics of replacing the Old Stadium and who pays for how much.

I hate that my taxes go to lots of places. If I feel strongly about it, I write a letter.

No one gives a damn if I take a knee.

It's just weak grandstanding over what amounts to a magical land of make believe injustices.

It's scary that so many people are pouring their hearts out over drug dealers and common thugs getting shot while committing forcible felonies.

Against police brutality? Fine. Use actual cases of police brutality, expose them, and use legal means to rectify any wrongdoing.

What they're doing is something else entirely.

Liberal lunacy has gone main stream. Thanks media, democrats, and academia for creating a legion of fools.

Which reminds me...my sister wrote a dramatic post about a guy creeping on her on a bus (she's quite dramatic). People poured in about the evils of men and how such evils should not be accepted in society. Beta males chimed on about how sorry they were that their inferior counterparts could be so capable of such unspeakable injustices. I told her to get some mace and/or a tazer, perhaps take a self defense course, and a suggestion to be more assertive. It was noted that women are the largest growing segment for concealed carry for a reason.

It was suggested that none of those were solutions...society simply needed to be educated on the evils of men towards women. I explained that those with no care or concern for societal norms, rules, and laws would be completely unaffected by wishful thinking. Her friend called me a victim shamer that needs professional help and an education on women's issues.

Her friends are mostly ivy league graduates that started out with lofty aspirations and all became artists after their enlightenment. WTH.

That's the problem with America today. Legions of educated fools, useful idiots, and students indoctrinated to dangerously stupid levels.

I remember when professional athletes were required to have a clean-cut appearance.

I taught my sons better than to idolize sports figures.

This shit is ridiculous and shameful. Every one of these "protesters" is ignorant of the plain and simple facts.

More WHITE people are killed by cops of every color than ANY other. Even the Washington Post gets it right.

Yes, there are more white people than black people, so the percentages appear skewed.

White people commit more crimes than any other color. However... the TYPES of crimes the majority of white people are committing are NOT the kind of crimes where you get shot and killed.

Here's a thought: When you get caught by police, THAT'S when you should take a knee.

If the NFL had enforced this rule last year, and nipped the problem in the bud, we wouldn't be having the issues we are now.

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the NFL league rulebook.

It states:

“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

“During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Will they enforce their own rules?

I don't care. The NFL can go to hell, as far as I'm concerned. I need it not at all.

Please remember you are also dealing with a collective bargaining unit.

I rank athletes with actors - worthless. Overpaid. Overinflated egos.

You are the Court Jesters. You are here to entertain, period.

When you are done entertaining, you may leave.

You serve no other purpose.

Our society is so far out of whack, to idolize these morons (and to idolize actors). I don't watch games; I don't follow teams. My life is going just fine without them. I don't need them, and America doesn't need them.

Maybe if they turned their athletic abilities into something useful...such as military service or law enforcement...then I might be impressed. But when some of the richest, most-coddled people on the planet protest because they're "oppressed"?

'em all.

They're just pushing the usual progressive propaganda points of racial inequality and racial bias in law enforcement in complete disregard for the reality of it all.

There are no goals or demands but to instill in common people through mainstream repetition that these are apparent truths. The concepts will be exploited during the next election cycle.

The Democrats are no longer overt racists, but still manage the subversive use of race as a political tool through most all mainstream media sources.

...and as a backup to the above "statements" about racial inequity, the linked-arms stances this week were also to protest our President and his "racial" statements...which included ZERO reference to race, but simply to the concept of respect for our nation and our flag.

Viewership was down 10% last weekend.

It's a start.

Hopefully attendance will also start to wane. Empty seats look bad on TV.

LeBron James was just on TV bitching about how the President is the one "using sports to divide us (the country)". I'm sorry...WHO is using sports to cause political division??

We are already divided on ideological grounds... nationalists vs globalists, individualists vs collectivists, libertarian vs authoritarian, conservative vs progressive, capitalist vs socialist...the losing side just wants to continue to dominate the conversation.

Who cares about basketball and what its players do?

A large number of people, unfortunately.

But look on the bright side:
The Pittsburgh Steelers were made to stay in the tunnel yesterday while the anthem played. One player from the Steelers team refused. Instead of remaining in the tunnel with the rest of the team, Alejandro Villanuevo, a former US Army Ranger, emerged onto the field and stood at attention with his right hand over his heart.

Today he has the top selling jersey in the league. Mind you - he is an offensive lineman. People don't buy O-line players' jerseys.

Prior to yesterday, no one even knew who he was if they weren't a die-hard Pittsburgh fan.

That speak volumes, IMHO.

Losing? Not by their lights. Eight years of lawlessness at the highest level and well funded organizations to promote hate and lies have made great strides towards authoritarian rule and violent suppression of free speech.

They believe they are winning to the point the masks are coming off the top levels even as they are donned by the cannon fodder. Openly Socialist Bernie. Obama administration speeches to the Endorsing Communist Party. Ex Nazi partnership with ex president Obama in promoting disinformation and hate, walled compounds in the heart of the capitol.

I wish I was being pessimistic. There will be blood on the streets. It's the promise and goal of so many.

Here in Knoxville, as in other college football towns, it's a civic religion. The crappy local paper puts up more column-inches about sports than ANYTHING else, real news be damned. Now, after a game, they're posting stories titled "What We Learned About the Vols Game" yadda yadda. We DIDN'T LEARN A DAMN THING, IT'S A STUPID GAME. Not to mention that about every week or so there's a news story about some athlete kid pulling a gun, stabbing, blah blah blah.

Oh, and given that I'm in the restaurant biz, I'll either make more or less money depending on their schedule and whether they win or lose.
I went to UT and quit in disgust because it became obvious that the university is there simply to justify the athletic programs. F 'em.
