Gonna meet an old Friend from the Navy/nuke plant days at Bonneville for speed week. It's be great to see him and I could really use the time in the saddle to do some thinkng and try and find some peace. Bringing the sleeping bag as a backrest so I'm packing the hammock and stove too.

Anybody else going or live between Oregon and SLC?
Headed out on OR-58 & 31, might come back on US-20.

OT, but I rode US20 from Chicago to Oregon in 1980 and it was great.

Speaking of potatoes, scientists have finally cracked the grand unified theory, and can now describe the entire universe with one expression.

Everything in the universe is either a potato or not a potato. Astounding, but true.

That probably should have gone in the joke thread. Or the science thread...

Made it to diamond lake the first night, stopped by at crater lake, but it was pretty smoky because of all the wildfires

The bike seems to be lacking some umph at elevation.

Trego springs was pretty cool... Er, hot. Apparently burning man was last week. But I heard it was canceled for next year

Camped out near Austin NV tonight

So true! Over 10,000 feet I had to fan the clutch like a two stroke to get it around the steep switch backs on jeep trails in Colorado! Those big jugs are gasping for air!

it was great to hang out and share time with an old friend.
salt lake HD was backordered so I crossed my fingers and gingerly rode it home on the spare.

took a detour to the hart mtn hot springs on the way home. out of the way but totally worth it. 58 and 31 were good roads.

there are a lot of cool things and places on the way, but there is also a lot of nothing in between them. at least Nebraska plants corn ...

The bike seems to be lacking some umph at elevation.

HP Loss = (elevation x 0.03 x horsepower @ sea level)/1000

So if you were at 5000 feet elevation, you'd lose about 15 of your Uly's stock 103 HP.

Just had that discussion last night with Henry, who also lives at 9000 ft., as to the best reason to have electric powered vehicles, no loss of ponies for us.

the bike was weighed down with me and all my crap. stopped by a scale and just the bike was 650 lbs, 850 with me on the platform too. ... I know I am closer to 240 with clothes and gear, so I think it only registered in 50 lb increments

I guess a super/turbo charger could compensate for the less dense air at elevation ... ?
