I'm thinking the Murder Mountain Ride is a bad idea for Saturday. This date unfortunately coincides with the "Roan Groan", a bicycle race. We ran into this a couple of years ago. The second half of the ride takes you south out of the town of Roan Mountain, TN on TN 143 up to the peak of Roan Mountain, which is the same route as the bicycle race. It's not a good thing to be railing in the twisties into a blind curve and come up on some poor bicyclist wobbling his way up a steep grade at 2 MPH, or worse yet, off and pushing. There's no shortage of other twisties in the area. | ||

OK, update. I'm probably not gonna make it. My truck took a shit on me Monday, motor locked up, haven't heard from the shop yet. As much as I'd like a ride out there and back, I'm thinking I should play things close to home. Risk v. reward, I can't afford some bets nowadays. | ||

Definitely not making it this weekend. Both air conditioners on the house are taking a dump...looks like I've got a new bill to pay somewhere in the $9000-$12000 range. You guys tip a cold one for me tomorrow night at dinner. | ||

I put it on the calendar, I won't have a clear idea until September, I already went south like a hundred times already this year, I need to see if I still have paid time off available and if so, budget for it. I'm already committed for WVBR in a few weeks. | ||

^ He's good about returning calls. The hotel is pretty much a 2-man operation with Mike and his wife Lynn which covers booking, checking in, cleaning, and cooking, so he can't always answer when it rings. | ||

Hey there Hugh- yeah, motor is locked up. Probably more trouble than rebuilding an EBR starter with super glue... Sure hope someone or several of youn's head down to that Chesnee SC shindig. Based on what I read on their web link, that looks to be a heck of a good time tomorrow. Hoping someone makes it and takes pictures! Whatever the case, PICS PHLEEEEZZE. If I can't make it, at least that'll entertain me a bit. And I KNOW the roads there and back will be awesome- been studying the maps. Just rolling through Blowing Rock and Lake Lure would be kick-aiss... I remember the highway from Black Mountain down there is just nothing but good curves. Found out a good buddy who lives on the river in Townsend TN is having a whoopteedoo this weekend. He'd asked me to come to his wedding a while back and show everyone how to play Firepit Jenga, and I didn't make it. Time to fix that! Still, I'm gonna miss all you nuts up there in Little Switzerland. Be safe, rubber side down. | ||
