Cut down front fender
Home made LED diode turn signal harness
Wired in resistor to convert battery powered speedo light to 12V
DIY adjustable side stand
Home made plastic tail light adapter plate. Adapted brackets for rear turn signals and plate holder.
C.F. plate holder
Removed upper chain roller (notorious for breaking off @frame)

Fuel mileage varies 45-50 MPG in mixed riding depending on conditions.

Front tires last 10-15k. Rears 5-6k.

Front brake pads make it 6k to 8k or so. The best in longevity/performance have been DP so far. A front rotor will be needed soon. A four piston caliper up front would sure be nice. The OEM pads in the rear have little wear.

Valves have needed some adjustment at each 8k interval.

Muffler body screws coming loose on the Supertrapp are a constant source of annoyance. One insert failure has resulted.

A plate holder that can survive long term is hard to find.

Overall the engine reliability has been good, though the minor annoyances have been many.

Nobody locally has parts (including the Suzuki dealer), though oil filters and spark plugs can be had next day from local auto parts stores.

It's geared to 100mph and has seen 75mph on a prepared dirt road.

It's okay for trail riding, but mud and sand make things challenging on street tires.

The chain has needed little adjustment, though it is cleaned/lubed frequently.

Overall it's a fun bike that just needs a few more horsepowers and torques. With the mileage I'm putting on it a sport tourer may be in my future.

It has proven to be perhaps the best handling bike with the crappiest suspension ever devised.

It's a handful off-road, perfect in town, and adequate for highway use. It also jumps slightly better than my S1...only just.

Love my 2006 DR650. Over 23,000 miles and it runs great. If I was to have only one bike, this would be it.

As a short range commuter I don't think one can do better than the proven street motos.

One thing I forgot is that the shift lever has come loose repeatedly. To correct this a longer screw was used allowing a lock nut on the other end, and the gap at the split was widened to allow it to tighten more securely on the shaft.

That blue is gorgeous.

One thing that really had me leaning towards this is that everyone I spoke to who had one regretted selling theirs...and old school air cooled bikes are cool.

When rebuild time comes around I'll be doing a cam, hi compression piston, headwork, and probably a header.

When the rear shock blows it'll be getting a revalve kit.

It'll be perfect, then.

It's nice having a bike that's been in continuous production for so long as potential problems are well known and there should be a parts supply available for many years to come.
