Monday, posts on Facebook about how "unfair" her boss was for firing her... (hey, we can dream, right?) |

Not firing her perpetuates the behavior. |

At the least a copy of her social media and a warning needs to go in her file at work. |

....busted....not the sharpest bowling ball in the tool shed...never ceases me as to how people ,like her,do that and expect to "get away with it" and no reprocussions will ensue...karma will always ,always prevail on that....seen it happen many a times at places i've worked at over the decades....ain't worth it,folks....like calling out sick and showing up to work on Monday all sunburnt,or hung over the next day,etc....d'oh,Gibbs up the back of the head,McFly up the fore head....just not worth it. Ohh.... my.... God.... This thread will be epic. I wish I had time to get into it right now, but I just don't know where to begin. I spend at least half of every day deciphering unnecessary riddles and putting out fires that never should have started. |

We were having a work picnic lunch. Keep in mind, this was at a school bus depot. One of our drivers though beer would be OK. He wasn't sure where to safely keep it until lunch time though. He took it with him on his morning routes. They sent him home for the day, but didn't fire him. |

Fast1075, I know what it's like but... The time line does not support taking any action against the person. She would just say, oh I felt better on Saturday. Her condition either way... cannot be proved. And most important, as a female she's in a protected class... if she was disciplined in any way; the company would be open for an EEOC complaint for hostile work environment. Where I worked, we had guys that were continually late. Same set of guys were continually taking Friday and Monday off for sickness. Heck the manager (still there) has over 30 days off sick just this year! There was a woman (an affirmative action hire; completely incompetent for the position; but was the first woman in the department) that shopped online for shoes most of the day. When she did take a case. She bungled it. Another agent would have to pick up the pieces and try to make things right. So glad to be retired... |

Ohh.... my.... God.... This thread will be epic. Indubitably! I wish I had time to get into it right now... Probably because - like me - you are at work, and you actually need to work while you are at work. Yes, I'm posting this over my lunch hour while I get my daily mid-day dose of sanity from BadWeB! |

I've seriously thought about writing a book about all the "characters" we had working at the brewery back in the day. Back when we could drink on the job a lot a crazy stuff went on and a lot of stupidity! |

>>>Her condition either way... cannot be proved. The beauty of "employment at will" . . you don't need a reason to fire them. Trick is to keep your mouth shut . . you do not OWE, nor are you required to provide, them a reason for firing. |

That only applies to white males, Court. A good friend found that out, lucky for him not the hard way. (Message edited by teeps on July 17, 2017) |

I disagree. We were "at will" employers. Told them up front they could be let go at any time for no reason and they were free to quit without giving notice. In fact, if anyone gave me notice, I thanked them but told them they were free to start their new job tomorrow. I've seen too many people spend their final two weeks telling everybody else what a rotten deal they have and how they're glad to be leaving. Six months later they're asking for their job back. Didn't tolerate input from spouses either. Gave a guy a $1/hr raise once and he comes back the next day saying his wife told him he should get $2 or quit. I told him to call his wife and tell her I accepted his resignation. |

And this is the other reason quotas suck. Not only can you be not-qualified and still get hired because you fulfill some other "requirement" (i.e. chromosomes, or skin tone)...but now you can't be fired for blatant disregard such as this, because of the same "requirement". Do the job? Get hired. Can't do the job? Don't get hired. END of discussion. Get hired and show blatant disregard for work policies, productivity, attendance, or any other rule in the handbook? Fired. End of discussion, no, it does NOT matter what gender or color you are, you failed to do your job (which, by the way, is the only reason you were here to begin with). |

I'm baffled by the self incriminating evidence unwittingly shared on social media. When half your co-workers are in your business online, people will see it. |

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ ct-chicago-water-department-report-met-0718-201707 17-story.html I can't see this as a party partisan issue. Sure, I'll bet you the party involved and could point out the history, but really this is a relative given a job story. The kicker is an employee fired for inappropriate emails by the boss sending Chicago Safari, come see the Animals emails, is suing to get his job back. It'd be like getting fired for sexual misconduct in the Clinton White House. Or getting fired for smoking pot by Snoop Dog. |

Then I remembered a new young boss I kept seeing come in late. I realized she had never worked in a manufacturing environment. She had no clue how they looked at tardy there. I started texting her when it was time to get up and when it was time to get on the road. Did that till she was on time. |

I don't know. Seemed a bit over the top. Overtly racist and sexist. Oh wait, you can't be racist against white people or sexist against males. Sorry. But it still seemed a bit too stereotypical to be real. |

I have met college students that were exactly like the airhead in Court's link. I used to live close to Brandeis U.in Waltham, Mass., and we had a group of them renting an apartment across the street from my house. Ask me about the time I blew up at one for parking across my driveway and blocking me in, next time we meet. |

I doubt that video is real. But . . .I do recall the copy of the Columbia Magazine that had the young lady on the front complaining that, upon her graduation, folks kept offering her "entry level" jobs and her "goal in life" (memorialized in the opening line of her resume') was the "become a C-Level executive in charge of the global marketing for a Fortune 500 firm". She was holding out and . . . thus, unemployed. My youngest . . . who learned hard work as a kid and makes more in a single paycheck than I do in a year . . . tells me he owes a debt of gratitude to the millennial in that they have pretty much eliminated themselves as competitors for the 7-figure jobs. Son of a good friend has been working on his Ph.D at Harvard, got bored, went into ABD status and applied for a job he knew nothing about with a hedge fund. They vetted him for several months and he's just started at just shy of $500k. He's a smart guy . . . but has never had a credit card, paid his own way for anything and I suspect it'll be a real shock, I like being a construction worker. |

That business about "ABD" needs to be clarified. To some lay people that may sound like a formality, that a person pretty much has earned their PhD. No. It's like saying I've pretty much earned my college degree in chemistry. The only thing I lack to get my diploma is all of my chemistry courses. A PhD is a dissertation, and whatever little coursework is necessary to prepare you to do the research and then write the dissertation! ABD.....OMG |

I could not agree more. Frankly . . . if it had been my kid and I'd been shelling out for Harvard for 5 years and they'd said "I think I'll do something else" . . . I'd have cracked'ed across the ass with a board and told them . . ."graduate . . THEN think for yourself". I think the mere fact that they have an acronym for ABD speaks to the laziness. If one of my construction workers arrived at work ABT (all but tools) I'd fire their ass. But . . . I am an old fashioned curmudgeon. |

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/07/20 /commuters-tackle-subway-hell-as-cuomo-de-blasio-f ight-over-200m-bridge-light-show/ Your subways are on fire and you want to make a $200,000,000 light show to show off how awesome an employee you are. Me, I'd fire them. The most self centered millennial has nothing on his worst elders. |
