Doris and I had a wonderful time with all of you. You really made our Friday. We absolutely enjoy sharing war stories with you and the reasons why we love our EBR's and Buells
Brankin, Ourdee, and Loose1 always make the time to enjoy this community. We are truly blessed with your presence
Andrew, from Texas, you are a very nice man with good manners. Better drop that soon if you want to be known as a hooligan .
GoBadgers, if we don't get together at someplace other than here, people will start talking. Let's go riding
Nathan and Nick (Twirlin), thanks for the road trip to Green Bay and getting my first look and bites in the Old Chicago Bar & Grill
Got to see Mike Kirkpatrick at Gus' last night with his 1948 CJ2. My favorite color, orange, with a 100hp Pinto engine in it. Mike and Zac4mac were talking way over my head. Every once in awhile Nathan and I would look and each other and nod. Guys like these two are not easily found and this is exactly why we ride what we ride, works of art! You've made our life more enjoyable for sure!
And then there is Dean Adams. You have made, I think, every Homecoming. Dean knows how to wake up a community with his presence, if you know what I mean
Ourdee, with photo's, confirmed they were trying to get the Crusty bike (the Black Lightning) ready for prime time.
Thanks to Dennis for the t-shirts. You really have put love in every design over the years. And your cool presence confirms how much you care about this community.
Hey Devin, Doris found your secret stash. What are we going to do with you? You and Twirlin make a good team!
Christo, I'll definitely be at your garage night next year. So as not to miss this event in the future, I plan on bringing a bike that has something that needs fixing. After all, what are garage nights for!
RPM4x4, you'd ride to the moon if that is where Homecoming was at. Unfortunately for all of us, your visit is too quick. Has been known to do 50 miles on the hwy in 20 minutes
And lastly, to our long time friend Kathy. She gets so excited knowing that we will have our home filled with exciting men that she can look over
It was a great home coming. RD and I have already started planning next years.
Was very disappointed in the ebr sale. They wanted full retail and then some on a lot of the stuff. There were a few deals. I got a ebr race piston from the 2012 daytona race, a power feed for one of my mills, and a new front iso for a xb.
I just got back from Gus's cruise night (after being at the track all day), and I blame you for the recommendation for Gus's Blast. Like a shake, but made with custard... That thing was HUGE! And FILLING! Good thing Gus's is closed for the season when I am home for Christmas!
I prefer Oreo, so I couldn't have a peanut butter shake for Dennis, and after the Oreo Blast, there's no way I could've either...
If they were asking full retail at the auction than who was buying it?
Based on posts I saw on Facebook, clearly everything wasn't going for full retail. Prices seemed to vary wildly depending on which LAP guy set the price. One guy posted on FB that he got a complete, brand-new Termignoni exhaust system for an 1125 for <$100. This retails for well over $1k IF you can find one. Another guy was quoted $150+ for a used, damaged XB header pipe.
Yeah, that guy didn't like it when I asked him if he was smoking crack when he pulled those prices for stuff out of his butt.
The blond dude looked a little sheepish when I asked him for prices, he told me he'd been fired from pricing anything else out, someone got mad at him earlier in the day.
I was carrying a KEDA exhaust serial #15 around when Mr. Retail asked me if I needed a price. I said I was just carrying it around and he got all flustered. I knew I didn't need a price from him. I'd buy a new one from Dean before I would buy from him. The blond guy was in tune with the real world. $200.00 for a 3 year old Rosso II? That's some serious crack. LAP was the only down side to this HC. Erik was a champion!
Here's another take on dealing with LAP posted to Facebook by Badwebber Phelan. Sounds like he had better luck getting reasonable prices:
quote:
To those of you that are considering coming to the EBR Liquidation, do it. Remember that nobody working the event or that worked at EBR is happy about this, and they are just trying to make the best of the situation. I dealt with Jim Sefernick for the last 3 days I've been here and he has been very cool to work with and very reasonable on prices. The thing to remember is that like anything else in life, communication is key. If there is a disparity on a perceived value of something, respectfully explain why you see a different value than he does and give him a reasonable explanation beyond "this is supposed to be a liquidation". There were no items that I was intent on buying, that I walked away from. We came to a reasonable agreement on everything I was interested in, with the exception of one bulk sale that I was on the fence about anyway. Still lots of great deals in the cash and carry section. Hours are 10-5 Mon-Sat, 10-2 Sun.
I was able to go up Wednesday for the liquidation sale and hang out with Chaz and crew for a bit.
Some thoughts on the state of EBR for the liquidation sale:
First. LAP plastered a giant, probably 40 foot long banner along the fence reading "LIQUIDATION SALE". I have a pic if anyone is so inclined. This was sort of tacky IMO. Entering the facility, the LAP employees almost seemed kiddy to be having the sale. Mr. Retail, as mentioned above, was a true ass. I witnessed him over price many items to people, people retort with reasoning, only for him to say "GO BUY IT SOMEWHERE ELSE".
Secondly, as a long time EBR/Buell fanboy, it was just sad. Sad to see EBR and Buell's legacy be torn to shreds by vultures trying to get every last drop out of it. I snuck off on my own for a bit and wandered around the facility. So many interesting bits of history laid out there, just to be torn to shreds for pennies on the dollar.
Anyway, rant over. Great seeing everyone that I was able to see, wonderful meeting new people. Til next year eh
This was Saturday morning. Loaded for the 400 mile ride back to Indianapolis. I could not get Brankin to ride with me for that part of his ride. Bike was a little light as I got Matt to put my tent and mattress in his trailer till next year.
I was really bummed out that I couldn't make it to Homecoming this year, but now I'm glad I didn't go.
If I had gone and seen how LAP is stripping the bones of EBR, then it really would have torn me up. When I went by 2799 Buell Drive back in 2015 I was filled with a heavy sadness as I looked at the empty parking lot and pondered what Hero had done to EBR. To be there and witnessing the dead carcass being picked apart by uncaring vultures would not have been a desirable memory.
I think that the people that Erik and his bikes attract are some of the finest folks I've ever met, and I'll probably enjoy future Homecomings; but it would have really sucked to witness what's happening at the present time.
Speaking to a member of team EBR - he remained upbeat. (Paraphrasing here and all my words) He said that some of them (that's all that is left is some of them) are not ready to move along and they want to continue in some future endeavor together. No names were named.
