Well, I just had a first about an hour ago. I decided to take NC 80/Buck Creek Road down from the Parkway. I figured I could check out the uphill traffic on my way down, and turn around and go back up if it looked like I could have a clear run. Well, about 2 or 3 miles down the mountain, I met some moron in an 18 wheeler headed up. He had a line of about 8 cars following him as he crawled up the mountain. I doubt it is physically possible to get that rig around some of the steep switchbacks near the top. He may be stuck there right now. At any rate, I was glad I didn't meet him in a wistful section, and I took a different route back to the hotel. |

I decided to take NC 80/Buck Creek Road down from the Parkway. That would have been an awesome ride. I rode that from the lake house on Lake Tahoma up to the top and back many many times, |

Congrats Frank! Sorry my time was cut short. I barely got to harass you! Let's go WV to try again. I would like to properly meet your lady. Good on you! |

"I met some moron in an 18 wheeler headed up. He had a line of about 8 cars following him as he crawled up the mountain. I doubt it is physically possible to get that rig around some of the steep switchbacks near the top. He may be stuck there right now." Many times whilst doing Deal's Gap, before the state rightly banned the big rigs, I'd see them doing their best to get through... myself and several of the sportbike regulars got in the habit of escorting them through. Often it'd be a noob who had been told A to B by their dispatcher, and... YEEHAAA!! Past Tabcat bridge, they were doomed. I remember one guy who just stopped at the NC/TN line going south, eyes big as saucers, he jumped out of the cab and asked me "HOW MUCH MORE OF THIS IS THERE?!?!" I said just get below the next dam, it'll get a lot better. Another guy pulled over at the store and got him a Dragon sticker. Somewhere out there on the interwebz there's a sequence of photos where an 18 wheeler appears to disappear going through Gravity Cavity going north... dang that's spooky. Glad they're banned now. Just wish we could ban aisshats, 2 or 4 wheel now. I don't go there unless I have to, or to enjoy, winter on a warmer day is nice. |

I'm pretty sure there were two guys in the cab of this truck. They had to ignore a lot of warning signs to go up that road. The big difference in NC-80 ("the Devil's Whip") and the Dragon is grade. 80 climbs 2000 feet in elevation from just outside of Marion to the Blue Ridge Parkway. That truck was probably on its knees at 5 MPH max for the last ~2 miles in first gear with the accelerator on the floor. Many of these sharp curves are completely blind, so if somebody didn't run into them, it was a miracle. |

Thank you for the well wishes guys. Currently I am in the middle of VA traveling home after a long but fantastic week in the alps, right now Mrs. Frog is driving. I got confirmation from my real estate agent that the place is ours, well it is a rental home so it isn't really ours but whatever. I'll post more details tonight. I think Hugh is enjoying retirement too much, I think he isn't leaving the Inn anytime soon. |

Congratulations, Froggy! I wish you and your gal nothing but the absolute best and I hope that new home surpasses your expectations. I hope to meet you someday, Froggy. You were a great help to me when I got my Uly years ago, along with others, and I've enjoyed being part of, and now following (my Uly's gone ), the Badweb group. The very best to you. |

Well, we're back in SC and recovering from our longest vacation ever. It was great to see all who made it. Sorry some had to leave early and some had to cancel, but it was still a good meet. I'll try to get t-shirts in the mail this week. I have a few extra if anyone wants one: $15 each plus shipping. BTW, did anyone else spot Bigfoot while they were out riding? http://www.thestate.com/news/nation-world/national /article165803462.html

One time my GF and her buddy were returning from Tunica on I40 after dark, heading east down from Crossville TN and the plateau- they SWEAR they saw something like Sasquatch cross the highway out there. Scared my GF so bad she had to drive about 40-45 for several miles. Now, neither my GF or her buddy are prone to stating wacky stuff like that, but hey, they did. I'll say that that particular stretch of I40 is pretty desolate, would make a great skunk-ape habitat. |

Nobody is more sorry than me... maybe my bike. The poor girl feels forgotten, gathering dust in the garage. |
