Even though we can easily get some white stuff in May this is just a little much!

Pictures this morning at 10:30 am and started last night at 10:30 pm, 26" in 12 hours and still coming!

That is a Chevy Cruze and a park bench in the picture above!

Had to help our hummers out a little, they're used to more sun and fun!!!

Hey John, I knew this would get your attention. The only thing that really sucks about this, is that both cages have the snows off and put in storage. So, the wife had a snow day and helped me in the shop, so not a bad day, she helped me with my wood!

Froggy, it's at about 9000 ft., pretty close to heaven! Come see it some time, we have plenty of beds needing to be occupied.

Trust me, you will like or summer weather, keep in mind, it's not summer yet.

I lived in Colorado Springs from '73 to '77. The thing I remember most about the weather is its unpredictability. I regularly saw 70º temperatures in January and February, and I saw snow on June 21st (the first day of summer) of 1975. The fastest weather change I ever saw was in February of '75. The weather went from an idyllic sunny day without a cloud in the sky and temps in the 70s to a blizzard with high winds within 45 minutes.

My father grew up in that part of the country. He used to say if you didn't like the weather, wait a few minutes.

Snowed all day yesterday, heavy and wet was not looking good for the trees.
Changed to rain towards the end of the day and saved the trees.

So far we've gotten almost 3" of rain/melted snow in 2 days.
Annual precipitation is 14-15"

Day after tomorrow it's supposed to be 60!

Squids, we've had the Denver group invade us a couple of times and even Tootal once, and nothing broken or missing, so I think the Buelligans are a pretty safe bet.

Ducbsa, where does your son work at Keystone? I used to work there and my wife still does, 21 years now.

Zac, it's going to take a while to melt this down, it has that heavy water content, so when you punch a hole in it, it glows an incredible blue. When the sun does poke out, it's going to make the river rats happy, because the rivers will be raging!

I was born and raised in the Golden area of Colorado and left back in '86 because I was done with commuting in the snow. Now I really, really miss the occasional snow day (3 or more a year). Sure we get some snow here once in a while. The delicate flowers here shut down the road when it gets 2"... Several years ago it took me 15 minutes to convince the CHP my '75 FJ40 would be able to traverse the 2" of snow for less than a mile, to get over the summit (2600').

It does rain though and so far this year we are about 135" (our area gets a lot of rain due to the mountains and terrain).

I think what I miss most is the 30 minute drive to hit the slopes as compared to a 5 hour drive now.

Good on ya for giving the hummers a place to feast!

BTW: I used to work at Keystone too. I was one of the first people to slide down on a snowboard. They only let me because I was staff.

All I left was a puddle of fork oil on the clean garage floor!!

The roads in the area are a hoot, even the dirt ones!

That's an amazing snowfall. I was skiing just down the road from you one year and we got 5 feet in 5 days! But it wasn't in MAY!

BTW, Jeff makes really good homebrew too!

1975? That was during the Global Cooling trend and the Ice Age scare.

Nebraska gets what Colorado lets get by. If it hasn't dumped in the Rockies it dumps on Nebraska. What are really spectacular are the thunderstorms. 50,000 foot cloud tops and lightning that goes into space. Storm shelters and a deep understanding that some diety hates trailer parks. ; )

Loren, a week from now there won't be much of this snow still on the ground, except at higher elevation, which makes for beautiful scenery, but I doubt they'll get Trail Ridge Rd. open for the holiday weekend. They always try their best to get it open by then, but this event probably screwed that. Here's a number to find out about it, Trail Ridge Road Status Line at 970 586-1222. The forecast for next weekend actually looks pretty nice.

Trail Ridge Rd. is never really that fun on a bike, to many snail paced cagers trying not to drive of a cliff. There are some really nice roads east and north of Estes Park, like Cty. Rd. 27 (Buckhorn Rd./Stove Prairie Rd.) and Hwy. 14 (Poudre Canyon Rd.)

Jeff, The plan was to camp, fly fish and do some hiking and was not even going to be on a scooter. I have a camp site reservation at Glacier Basin CG in the park.

I will keep an eye on this and see what it looks like at the last minute...alternate is heading to Arkansas.

The current view at the campground

Loren, The power of the sun in Colorado is an amazing thing, and that campground will be green before the weekend. There will be snow tucked into shaded spots, so the trials will definitely be sloppy. It really depends on your sense of adventure, because to me, snow mixed with green trees and blue skies makes for an incredible backdrop no matter what you're doing!

I sure hope so but as of now I don't know. My house has been slowly sinking for the last 6 years and has finally stopped. This was due to mine subsidence in the area. Now the insurance to fix it will be coming soon and I've got to contract someone to raise the house and remove the old footing and replace them. I get to tear out all my basement walls and pour a new floor. I don't know when I can get anybody to start this and have no idea how long it will take. So my whole Summer is up in the air. Good news is my friend in New Jersey bought his retirement home in Loveland and hopes to move out there in the next year or so. He's given me a key so I have a place to crash whenever I make it out there. So if I do get a chance to escape I will definitely let you know!

I had a great time with you guys! I replaced the fork seals and put on some fork socks so I shouldn't drip anymore oil!

Well the hummers are happy again and the snow is pretty much gone, even without full sun for the past two day. So, Loren I hope you reconsider, but I sure can't guarantee perfect weather while your here. What I will guarantee is that it will be beautiful no matter what the weather!

Loren, if you do make it out here, bring a hummer feeder (4 to 1, water to sugar) for your campsite, they make the best sunset entertainment!

OK, dang. This needs to be renamed the Hummingbird Thread now...

I've deployed close to a dozen different feeders around my little house, we MIGHT see one or two a day. We watch the interwebz hummie migrations every year, and we've seen very few here to date.

The first one we/I saw was on Easter, a female. FAR less than a dozen so far.

I do believe things will improve. ; )

Loren, Probably not a bad call, especially since it's snowing right now and the weekend doesn't look real inviting either. Post up when your trip gets close, it would give us a reason to ride through the park and watch the elk start to rut. In 21 year this has been the longest dragged out winter yet!
