Nope. Cis means somewhere between the Earth and the moon. No idea how they're applying it as a derogatory comment against straight men who identify as straight men. Unless, you know, they're make shit up like they make up everything else.

"The many nonsensical Taboos and attitudes about sex can be maddening."

Cause it's silly to relate HIV/AIDS and other serious STDs to them?

I'm still libertarian, but it's something to think about.

Two consenting adults, so where's the harm? Ask everyone who's suffered with th disease that inevitably gets spread the world over, including people receiving donated blood products at hospital.

Scientifically speaking, monogamy makes total sense.

Scientifically speaking, the whole global warming alarmism scheme is complete garbage.

The lesbians aren't really big on HIV. Other STD's... well, promiscuity is promiscuity.

Monogamy, Polyandry, even Polygamy, all would do nicely to limit the spread of disease. Don't limit my day dream of marrying Willow & Anya. Or Xena & Gabrielle, or any couple of imaginary women from a long gone TV show. ( I may have been unduly influenced by "Three's Company" as a youth. )

The key is apparently not fooling around and being loyal and supportive to your mates.

Which is the sociologists version of "Female reproductive strategy". Pick mate to guard cave. "Male reproductive strategy" is to spread the DNA as far as possible.

Maybe the radfemlibs have a point. ; )

I can't really comment on the findings here. I was under the impression that there was nothing left of any possible previous civilizations from before the last Ice Age.

Some think that there are such remains in India, but the problem is that Empires often claim an antiquity that's not real.

And the area in question, Turkey, is, like Northern India, a place where waves of barbarians swept down from the steppes onto civilized ( and decadent ) lands, conquered, became the new Empire, and promptly claim to be the Old Empire, directly descended from the ancient Gods & Mythic Heroes.

If the carvings are indeed from over 10,000 years ago, there's a lot more history than we will ever know. ( unless we build some kind of Time Viewer. Which would instantly be banned by every government on the planet. )

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/coughing-convulsing-call s-probe-arkansas-execution-190046453.html

Not going to argue the death penalty here.

I am going to mock the notion that "we have to kill now before the drugs expire". Why? Afraid you'll harm the guy you're executing? Why use an alcohol wipe on the needle site? What PC demon possesses these politicians to write these rules?

Mostly I consider the common lethal injection protocol to be horror story torture pornography. I couldn't come up with this sadistic crap to kill child rapists. (& I would cheerfully feed kiddie rapists into wood chippers )

If you toss your cookies easy..... Stop Here.

1st you give the prisoner a paralyzing dose of "tranquilizer" to make him lay there and not react to......

2nd you give him a drug that stops the breathing and I am told burns in every artery and vein.

I'm going to stop now. You can look it up. Don't eat first.
Essentially you give the illusion of stillness while the victim, is probably wide awake and aware, while torturing them with invisible water boarding. .... to death.

This perverted sadistic crap is unbelievable in a so called civilization.

Proponents of this murder/torture technique claim it to be painless and humane..... with no clinical evidence.

For the love of humanity, if you're too wimpy to shoot them, too squeamish to hang them, and can't stomach the stench when frying them in Thomas Edison's torture machine electric chair.( invented as a horrifying propaganda campaign against Tesla's AC current ) ...... & Must maintain the illusion that murder by government is a medical procedure........ use heroin.

Seriously for all you hold dear. Heroin. Morphine if you insist on FDA certification. The victim falls asleep. He feels no pain. He quits breathing. You call the time of death and it's over.

"claim it to be painless and humane..... with no clinical evidence"

Dead men tell no tales.

It's interesting how they call them "botched executions".

I'm reminded of The Green Mile: "Eduard Delacroix is dead".

Any execution that results in the condemned dying is, by definition, successful, however unpleasant it might have been for the observers

But that doesn't address the trauma to the observers.... ; )

Or to not be sarcastic, why add to your own soul's damage?

It's all cute and nasty to be angry at (say) a kiddie rapist, and want them tortured to death to get revenge on them, but do you really want that stain on yourself? Your thoughts, your anger & guilt, the corrosive effect on your life?

I'd not deliberately kill a deer slowly, why should I do less for a fellow human?

"Lethal Injection" is a barbarism cloaked in fake science respectability.

Lethal injection laws are odd. Far too complicated, and poor choice of cocktail. As you pointed out, a simple massive dose of morphine would be far more humane. You run the risk of addiction though. Can't have that.

Thank you for getting my point.

In funnier news this diet may work temporarily. ... at some serious health risk.

The linked article says avocado sales to dieting rich folk has led to a shortage. I can't make this stuff up.

Us poor folk have to settle for thick cut bacon, I suppose. ; )

The Atkins diet and this more extreme version makes you "sick" to lose weight. The idea of fighting diabetes with the "fat burning" diet isn't new. This is just the latest wave.

I had a bunch of friends try modified Atkins a few years back. Almost all lost weight. ( some couldn't tolerate it ) All who lost weight gained it all back. ... plus.

OTOH a friend who gained weight when he got a job at a bakery, & he started heavy, went on a "one healthy balanced diner with wife a day" diet, using bananas as a crutch snack whenever he got hungry. Now he's eating normal and holding weight 70+ pounds lighter.

Not easy. But the magic is in the life change to healthy balanced diet after the weight loss. If he had gone back to old habits he would have gained it all back.

In further news there are now protesters against skinny people. About time. ; ) I bet there's a Krispy Kream near each protest: )

https://spectator.org/pope-franciss-communist-ment or/

Good thing I don't consider myself Catholic. The Last Pope would have me excommunicated. I consider him a satanic cultist. ( per a previous Pope )

Of course some people put on mass in Basic. Exercise and diet. Lose light weight fat, gain heavier muscle. Overweight folk often lose weight in Basic.

Btw, in the latest turn around of medical Opinion, salt doesn't give most people problems. About ten percent may get high blood pressure if they eat too much salt. Everyone else can even eat P.F. Chang frozen Chinese food. ( I've seen over 1500 mg Sodium per serving, Kung Pao Salt Lick )

Thus salt joins coffee, eggs, & fat on the list of foods that were evil one week and safe the next.

The food pyramid taught in schools today ( or the different one taught 50 years ago ) is now considered a recipe for obesity.

As an aside, Hugh Jackman's reason for quitting the Wolverine gig wasn't the diet & exercise to build the muscle that he couldn't take anymore. ( it was harder each year ) it was the deliberate dehydration to get the camera pretty cut look. No water over a day of filming was just too unhealthy. Unlike bodybuilders who can schedule for a single day of competition, weeks of filming is severe on the body.

I really don't know how to take this seriously. For years, it was called "global warming". As it became clear that the warming had halted, with no possible way to connect that sudden change to current green house theories, they simply changed it to "climate change". Now that there is slight warming trend again, it's back to full blown threat of uncontrolled warming, but they are hedging their bets by keeping up the climate change label. All of this without any new break through understanding of the fundamental science of climate. Let's just admit it. They change their tune with the change in the weather. It's always the same boogie man, and the same solutions though. We should not call this sham science at all.

When I was a kid in the 70s it was the threat that we were sending ourselves into a man made ice age because of the hole in the ozone. Strange how the same pollution can be sending us into an ice age or uncontrolled global warming. Probably depends on whether we are having a mild winter or a harsh winter.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/05/02 /delingpole-climate-change-is-no-more-credible-tha n-magic-says-top-physicist/

Don't look at the problem.

Look at the Proposed solution.

Back in the late 1970's the problem was the Possibility that we were about to hit a crisis point and the climate, worldwide would suddenly ( within a century ) change, to a mini, or even major Ice age.

http://mentalfloss.com/article/73585/15-facts-abou t-year-without-summer

Look at the Solutions.

Eliminate fossil fuel use that releases long stored Carbon to the atmosphere.
Tax the people to pay for the change over to forms of power that don't release that stored carbon.
Give up National sovereignty, to make way for a World Government to ensure fair distribution of food and resources in a world of crop failures.
Create stockpiles of food to prepare for the coming crisis.

When the world didn't freeze over within the attention span of a tv watcher, and 20 years later it got nearly as warm as it was in the 1930's, the panic was on. Global Warming!

and the solution, exactly the same as before, except no one talks about creating emergency food stores that no one had bothered to do for the 20 years since the oncoming Ice Age panic.

If getting cold, means you need to be taxed and ruled by an unelected Emergency Committee, and getting warm means the exact same thing....

Then taking your money and ruling you without your consent is the entire purpose behind the panic.

Weather is complicated.

Climate is chaotic, and more complex than we know.

Why you need to be ruled by people that will take the power to take your property against your will, That's really simple.

They want to.

And it's easier to sell a dictatorship with a crisis than to just send the troops in to impose one by force.

"Climate is chaotic, and more complex than we know. "

A pathetic argument but at least some argument even if weak minded. More accurately, weather is chaotic on a short time frame and complex.

A motorcycle race is chaotic and complex but it doesn't mean there is not a clear trend over time that means at the end of a season of races a consensus cannot be reached as to who is the most winning racer.

The pathetic sad-sack poor me cry-baby likes to say, "Unless you can tell me on which turn of all the races run did the season leader appear, then I won't accept the leader". It is just a weak weak argument that is easier and easier to see through.

Saying that unless something is known with perfect certainty in all cases with full understanding ---- that there is no useful knowledge to be had, well that is just less and less of a compelling argument.

Look to data, look to trends, look to consensus and there is more useful information.

Weak minded. Okay, let's talk about weak minded. A hypothesis that CO2 produced by man affects the climate should fairly specifically predict the nature of the changes.
Instead, the whole field is now called climate change instead of global warming.
That means that of all possible climate states (infinity), that the result of increased "man made" carbon emission must result in ANYTHING other than the exact same condition as last year's state. Or whatever state they want to compare.
This means that to satisfy the prediction of the hypothesis, the result can be any of (infinity - 1) outcomes.
I'm pretty sure such a hypothesis would result in a failing grade in the elementary school science fair. At least they USED to cut infinity in half and predict which direction the change would go. Not anymore. Now it's just "change."

"Look to data, look to trends, look to consensus and there is more useful information."

You're correct, with the exception of "consensus". 1. There isn't one. 2. WTF does consensus have to do with science?

The data says there is no evidence that increased CO2 results in a warmer climate. Show me the reproducible experiment that proves that it does. You can't. No one can. Such a thing does not exist. AGW is an unproven theory. All it takes is one bit of evidence to the contrary to disprove it. There's lots of evidence that we're not causing GW. There's lots of evidence that the AGW cultists are liars.

A pathetic argument but at least some argument even if weak minded. More accurately, weather is chaotic on a short time frame and complex.

Don't know why the statement is pathetic. Is it too simplified? Too hard to understand?

Weak minded? Define please. Blindly believe Fox News? CNN? Think that because it's New Coke it's better? ( it was NOT )

Look to data Yes. being aware of the limits of our ability to collect it, and it's accuracy.

look to trends Yes. trends can be temporary, as the short term cooling trend in the 1970's, but trends are a way to predict.

look to consensus Why? What does that have to do with Truth? Science?

You publish in a peer reviewed publication to put your theory out there to be disproven. It makes zero difference if 50 people prove you in error, or 1. Wrong is wrong. Time to go rethink the theory. That is how science works.

Your race analogy is wrong.

It's some bozo arguing that, after the fact, the rules don't take into account lap position. The rules state that first across the finish line after the stated number of laps is the winner. ( plus consideration for penalties, ending the race early for weather, etc ) The bozo is a sore loser, and a jerk. Your analogy is a straw man argument.

The "argument" is the predictive models.

Do they predict the future? How can you tell if they work? Simple, you predict the past. Use all the data the model needs from ( say ) 1900 to 2000, and see what the model says about 2001-2016. You already know the answers for 2001-2016. Did the model give the correct answers? If not, the model surely can't tell you what's going to happen in 2100. Go back and refine the model.

What is certain is that personal attacks on those you disagree with, straw man arguments, and other dishonesty, is not Science. It's politics, or religion, or fraud. ( feel free to think that redundant. )

Few doubt that man affects the weather. There are a few, like Rush Limbaugh that are science illiterate, and say we are too puny to affect such things. Not the first time he's been wrong.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Yep. Svante Arrhenius back before I was born had that figured out, to a certain value of figured out. There was, and is, debate on the details and percentages of the effect of CO2 on climate.

Solar flux ( how many photons ) affects the climate. That's why Orbital Forcing is considered the probable main cause of Ice Ages, and the brief periods between when it doesn't suck to live here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbital_forcing

Short term, ( in the span of a few years or decades ) Charged particle emissions of the Sun have a major effect on climate. Solar storms create intensified particle flux in the magnetic bow wave and fields around the planet, that deflects the solar wind. The higher flux blocks cosmic rays. Cosmic rays form water droplet nuclei in the upper atmosphere, causing sun-blocking high altitude clouds.

Complex, indeed.
