The man in Black fled across the Desert, and the Gunslinger followed.

The trailer for this movie just came out.

Wow.

If you're a Stephen King fan, you know The Dark Tower. Some amazing writing in my opinion. Not "Stephen King gore and horror", just some very cerebral storytelling and some amazing wordcraft. Now...it'll be a movie (August 4). Not sure how I feel about Matthew McConaughey as Flagg/Walter...and Idris Elba is one hell of a good actor but I always pictured Eastwood (or someone like him) as Roland. But...still looking forward to it. Gonna be good to see Oy, Detta, Jake, and the rest of the gang again. I hope. We'll see how they did with the film.

Need to dust off the old books as a refresher.

I couldn't get into The Dark Tower, but I'm not a King fan. I did like Eye Of The Dragon, which is not a typical King Horror story... or typical anyone story, come to think of it. I admit he's a decent wordsmith, but his stuff isn't my cuppa.

OTOH.... I just saw the trailer... Looks.... good. A couple of great actors, ( McConaughey even does a superb car commercial, Elba can sell "We are Canceling the Apocalypse!" ) leaving me with the fear that the studio will mess this up.... Because I want it to be good.

( Starship Troopers may have scarred me for life )

Full disclosure, I hadn't read Dune until the movie came out, I had tried, but found the science stupid. It's Hard to write good psychic stuff. I then burned through the rest of the series, hoping for improvement, and think I gave up after God Children Of Dune. ( and I only read the sequels because they were published in Analog, so I already had them ) Maybe it was Sting that ruined it...... or Kyle Mc-I do weird roles. ; )

Yea, I'm really looking forward to it.

My wife and I both thought Cullen Bohannon (actor Anson Mount) from the Cable series "Hell on Wheels" was Roland incarnate, but I'm interested to see Elba in the roll.

I'm curious how King's magnum opus will translate into film. I can't find any reference to whether it will be a single movie, or if it'll span multiple movies like the Lord of the Rings.

One quick review seemed to imply it'll all be condensed into a single movie. I'm not sure how that'll play out. At least it can't POSSIBLY be as bad as "Lawnmower Man."

Want to bet? There are worse movies.

One page/review (IMDB?) said there may also be a (mini)series...

There's certainly enough material...

Okay, but "Tip Toes" wasn't adapted from a book written by Stephen King. Or, in the case of Lawnmower Man, it wasn't inspired by the TITLE of a Stephen King short story either.

This talks a little about how the movie relates to the books: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Dark-Tower-Movie-Wh at-We-Know-So-Far-130847.html

Well, let's see, one Dark Tower book is more than a movie, so if they try to cram the whole set into one movie there will be a whole lot missing. Usually his stuff doesn't translate well into film. Of course I didn't really watch that many of the films based on his stories. Then again, some of them were "made for TV" which doesn't help. If enough of the trailers look good, though, I might give it a shot.
