I had similar 10 years ago, it was terrible, but thankfully things get faster, stronger, cheaper and such as time goes on. http://www.webbikeworld.com/heads-up-display/ The Nuviz does look interesting for sure, I'll be keeping an eye on it. | ||

I am friends with one of the guys who started that company His main company has been doing the HUD stuff on military contracts for about a decade now, so they arent new to this stuff. | ||

I am split on how I feel about HUD. I have in in my Corvette. I wanted it bad until I got it. Mostly I ignore it and use the instrument cluster. Could be from years of habit, however now that I have been using it for nine months I see it more as a distraction to things that are supposed to be clearly in my view.....like traffic, pedestrians, animals, and other things that could impede my progress. As are a lot of us, I am aging in the vision department. I hate bi-focals so I have been using split vision contac lens. That took years to adapt to but is much more the compromise for me, rather than split lens or blended lens of glasses or carrying "readers". My distance vision has only gotten better with age. HUD to me is just another "thing" to focus on while searching the wind screen for obstacles. To me it is more like a bug splat on the edge of my vision. The speedo numbers are large, dimmable, and movable while being easy to read. All the other crap would take too much time for me to focus on to be a good idea. It has the tach and fuel readings that are just too small to be helpful. I have tried it with my glasses, without my contac lens, with readers. None allow me to read it while focusing on the big picture. I can glance down at the instrument cluster and back to distance view without having to refocus on the important stuff. To monitor that HUD stuff other than the speedo takes focus time and re-focus time from the road ahead, kind of like taking my eyes off the road to read an incoming call phone number on my phone(which I no longer do, my radio's are all pared with my phone for hands free). I want nothing on my helmet visor but unobstructed vision of my immediate future, the dumbest thing I have seen to put there in front of your eyes is the rear view camera to distract you when you are driving forward. Mirrors are proven to to get your attention when someone is crawling up your ass. Then you can choose how you want to deal with it. It is more likely to confuse you, distract you, and get you killed than it will do you good. IMHO of course. These things are great when you hear from avid gamers who are used to split and multiple screen views. Given that they still split your vision and thought processes and focus while driving, they are fine in game rooms, but in the real World hitting "restart" button won't bring your life back to normal if you happen to crash while being overwhelmed with visual information. Yep, I believe multitasking your vision(or the brain in general) is a bad idea while driving, in as much as texting while driving is. Just talking on a non-hands free phone while in a CDL truck is a $3000.00 fine now. Texting can add reckless driving to that fine. Military use I can understand. They get special training and they have to deal with weapons at the ready. Not so for an already scatterbrained pimple faced cupcake eater who cannot even make a bowl of cereal on their own. | ||

Vern (pardon the hijack) - send me an email about your bifocal contacts when you get a chance. They just (as in a week ago) offered me the option to change. 48 hours and my eyes still hadn't gotten used to them. Seems any improvement I had up close was balanced by an equal degradation in distance... For the topic at hand...I'm with Vern. Too much clutter in the field of vision isn't a good thing, at least not for this old dog. | ||

On topic...I love the HUD in my Corvette. It took some time but I barely notice any longer. It's just part of my driving. I wish my wife Lincoln MKZ at it. Off topic...I tried bifocal contacts briefly. Instead, I have a distance contact for my dominate eye and close vision contact for my other eye. The only time that it gives me issues is at the shooting range. The sights on my handgun are blurry with my dominate eye. I just switch lenses during those times. | ||

I do my contac close up in dominate eye. It makes target shooting the best ever for me. Right hand shooter right eye close up lens. First time I could ever see both the front and rear sites clearly. Put the ball on the fuzzy spot in the distance. It appears that way when primary focus is on sites even with both eyes open. |
