Today, whilst riding behind a norton down the old pacific highway i fell into musing: What uses greater lean angle for a given mid-corner speed, brake late and turn with a late apex, or a classic racing line?

I know my chicken strips are usually a bit wider than most squids' strips on the street. Smooth lines through turns help keep from "pinching" the apex, and a pinch requires a sudden lower angle for the duration.

This is, of course, at speeds lower than racetrack/knee-drag speeds, at which point all bets are off. But still illustrates the theory that a smooth line keeps a racer from suddenly dipping a handlebar into the tarmac because they missed an apex and have to pinch suddenly to stay on-track...

I'm with Rat. The classic racing line is meant to get the most bang for the buck. So at street speeds it would mean less angle.

Yep, thought so.
