"Not sure I am confident with people not smart enough to avoid jury duty. " Exactly. That is why I am always honored to serve my time. If I was on the other side of the jury box I would want folks there who wanted to be there. Last time I went in for jury duty, I listened to almost a hundred people all give lame excuses why they couldn't serve. When the judge got to me he was visibly frustrated and asked me what my excuse was. I told him I was honored to be chosen and felt it was my civic duty to participate in the legal system and that I was embarrassed by those before me trying to lie cheat and steal their way out of contributing back to the system. The judge was shocked as were the lawyers, then the judge then went on a 15 minute tirade to the other candidates and ended by sternly telling everyone in the court room he would be checking on their excuses and any of them that lied to him would be held in contempt of court and spend at least a day in jail. That changed the mood of the court room. I was eventually selected. Week long trial about some doofus falling off his bike blaming the city and county and emotional distress because his mother saw him naked. WTF? She freaking birthed you! Sorry for the derail... I wish I could go and meet all of you. WV is a bit far for me. Have fun and take a buttload of picture (no revenge pron though). | ||

Yep, busy week. I work 4 days next week and I am retired. Training my replacement and I have one person left to finish a 40 hour one on one metal finishing course to get him certified before I leave. Had to 5s the repair hole for the last time. All tools are foot printed and excess has been removed. Installed Plexiglas windows on the tool cabinets so they can be inventoried quickly without unlocking them. Finished a suggestion and quick kayzen then implemented it by assembling a crash box for containments. My parting gift that the department does not want to admit a need for. Proactively they are now prepared to fail at least once and recover the integrity of the customers supply. My union brothers all the while telling me I am retiring and should relax. My reply," I have 4 days left to make a difference". | ||

Congrats on your retirement RD. I found it funny you said 5S. That's part of the "Voyager Plant Optimization" theory. In my plant, they spent so much money 5Sing they didn't have the money to buy parts to fix stuff! I always felt that the whole 5Sing was so if we ever went on strike the replacement workers could easily find all the tools, it had nothing to do with us! It takes a while to not let the decisions of those who replace you bother you. I just heard the other day that one of the idiots told the guy I trained that he didn't need to lap in the valve faces, that it was fine just to surface grind them. Well, I was trained by the factory but he's never rebuilt one before and they're taking his advice. At first I got pissed but a fellow retiree told me it's not my fight anymore and I started to laugh cause I can't wait till they put those valves in and they leak! Your entering a new life, learn to enjoy it. I have! | ||

45 days till HC2017 Tootal, The guy replacing (trying to) me has followed me from job to job. He always jumps on the one I'm leaving then complains that I ruined the job. Sorry, I'm not scared to work and believe the customer is my family. It is what I hammer into the people around me. Everyone seems concerned with trying to get a chair. I tell them I will get them a chair then ask," You're off the clock right?" We are a WCM plant. Goes way beyond 5S. | ||

Well I don't know what a WCM plant is. Ours was VPO which was also a lot more than 5S. A lot of management stuff that had nothing to do with my job yet was forced to learn it. A lot of it was brain washing, trying to make you feel like you were part of the TEAM!! Rah Rah! Sorry, homey don't play dat game! It breaky, I fixxy! That is all! | ||

I think he's talking about a containment dike. We used them around caustic and fuel tanks in case of a rupture. It would contain the spill keeping it from floor or storm drains. | ||
