My thoughts are with the rider for a complete recovery. He/she got an unexpected taste of an Evel Knievel style jump! ...and landing.

Prayers with the rider.

Imagine his insurance agents first thoughts to THAT claim...

I don't think I want to ride through Atlanta any time soon.

The rider is still in critical condition this morning.

This damned piece of busted pavement has been worse on our traffic patterns in 1 day than the I-85 closure has been for 2 weeks.

I have to admit... despite YEARS of training as both an MSF Instructor and then a RiderCoach, as well as taking courses offered by the two Pridmores (Reg and Jason), Keith Code and Eric Trow this is ONE hazard I would NOT be anticipating on the road...

Thanks for the update Matt as there was no mention of the condition of the rider. Man that would suck big time!

Worst I ever had was when I was following a truck, and about to pass, when a male raccoon just appeared from under the truck with blood everywhere. I was afraid to swerve due to the blood so I stood up, gassed it and pulled on the bars and rode over it. The next day my garage smelled really bad. Seems the bolt on the front motor mount had dug a piece of meat out of the coon! I can't imagine having the road just buckle up like that with no warning. I'd try the same dirt bike maneuver but a Harley ain't no dirt bike!
Hope he pulls through!

Jeeze that is just nightmare fuel.
Reminds me of the poor Californian police guy was coming in to shift in the early morning on his bike after the earthquake removed a highway bridge.

This sort of thing just makes me want to hide in my basement in a pile of pillows.

Many years ago a friend of mine was returning home from a late night on the town. He recognized a car driver in front of him as being WAY over the BAC limit by the erratic way he was driving and slowed way down to put some time and distance between the two of them.

He breathed a sigh of relief when the drunk exited on an off-ramp and promptly slammed into a telephone pole.

That pole decided the impact was too great and fell down across the highway just before my friend was able to react.

His bike was totaled and he was pretty banged up, but fortunately no broken bones... just a LOT of bruising and road rash.
