I can't tell ya how ready I am to roll south! Graham and I are holding the last bed in our lodge room for Vern... sure hope that drive belt shows up pronto!
My local weather shows a 40% chance of rain during the day Friday, with probabilities increasing into the evening... gotta waterproof a few things. Oh well. Who's got a bead on a reliable forecast for Suches? I use NWS/NOAA at home.
If my gear is all good, in a weird way I kinda like riding in the rain. It slows me down, and I find it somewhat peaceful. YMMV.
Well I head down tomorrow. It's supposed to rain from here to Nashville where I'm staying with friends. I just picked up a new jacket from British Motorcycle Gear that's supposed to be waterproof. I guess I'll find out! Will be at TWO on Thursday.
Looked at the weather again... rain probability for Thursday/Friday is 60-70% or better. Dangit! Guess I don't have to do a super-detail job on the bike...
Oh well. We'll just take it easy, NBD. Good news is that the weather after Friday is looking fine!
I took a look at Roadfood.com yesterday, to look and see what other notable restaurants might be around N. GA... only thing that popped up was a place in Dahlonega that sounded like an old timey meat and three. Jim's Smokin' Butts is obviously #1 for us all, but I'll be bringing extra provisions just to be sure. A 25 count case of Chicago dogs will be involved, for campfire snackin', maybe some homemade empanadas.
Anyone give more thought about checking out Foxfire? I've not studied the roads in full detail just yet, but I bet we've been on them before. I'm OK with a Cherohala ride, but for me it's kinda my backyard... I'd love to see new roads if possible. The side leg road for that ride is a run through the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, always a pretty route, but you gotta stay a bit slow due to road conditions.
Let's have a group huddle Friday evening to hash out Saturday's ride. There are several routes that will lead us back to Jim's, but we need to be sure that they'll not run out of food before we get there! IIRC they will reserve some 'cue for a group if we call and they know we're coming. I'll try to provide a failsafe for grub, but I'd be pretty sure Mary and the TWoS crew could put on a feedbag for us too.
I lost a great buddy today (Monday) to a car wreck, and a suspected heart attack. Graham also might have to bail, so, I'm cancelling my reso for lodge room #3 in the morning.
I'm waiting to hear from him now- apparently his work is overriding his plans, but he'd stated that he'd make his work pay for the room if he couldn't make it. Given that, I'll wait until I hear from him to cancel the reservation- that might work out to a free 2 night's stay for whomever is already heading that way. We shall see.
We'll be having a visitation and memorial service Friday evening, and my GF keeps telling me to just come on down Saturday... too soon to tell. I'll post up ASAP once I get my bearings in this giant shitstorm.
Allrighty, here's where I'm at now. I'll talk with Graham tomorrow to hash out what we're gonna do, then I'm thinking I'll probably leave out early Saturday to head down. I can't think of anything better than a day's ride, with great weather, to help me with what I'll deal with Friday. Not to mention hanging out and shit-shooting with all you nuts, if only for Saturday evening. I might even stay over Sunday night and come home Monday just to gain back the time... who knows.
Once you all as a group decide the day's ride Saturday, and the ETA to Jim's, I'll see about meeting up there.
I'm in Ellijay with my friends. The weather keeps changing for the better. Now they are saying no rain Thursday and Friday will be wet but not huge storms. The weekend looks perfect! See all ya'll soon!
As long as I get to hang with you and the usual suspects, all is well. Weather here is AWESOME today... looking forward to more of it Saturday!
Just spoke with my mechanic, who just did a "Spring checkup" on my old steed... balanced the carbs, checked this and that, she's ready to roll!! I know my limits as a wrench, it's always good to have a legendary, trusted, old school mechanic tell ya all is well. And not blow much dough to do so!
Ohhhh, I'm really not sure what I'm doing... I'm working tomorrow, I'm exhausted, and if I'm reading the forecasts right it's going to be raining most of the way down and most of the way back
I'll be headed that way Saturday morning. Ann and I will be hanging around TWoS for a while before we head off. I'll be there long enough to see most everyone as they stop by or whatever. If y'all need an all day ride, go for it, I more than understand. If it were up to me, I'd ride my ass off!
Waffle House? Damnit man, good thing I dumped and flushed the septic tanks the other day!
I got to make sure I am at Vern's today!.....oh wait
Got Uly out of shed. Have to finish work on customer truck and deliver it before I can leave. Lots to do. Looking like a late Friday evening or early Saturday adventure run for me.
