Dammit, I'm gonna have to mainline some insulin, Mark- that's WAAAY too sweet!!

We sure love our boys here- every night when I get home, put on comfy couch clothes, the sofa seating has to get scrambled so each of them can snuggle beside me. Silly but sweet!

FWIW, my dear sister, by no small miracle, found a gift for me this past Christmas at a Mt. Juliet TN deep discount store- a nice, tempered glass cutting board, with a spitting image of my Basenji on it!! The odds are simply boggling... a few days ago I found the cardboard frame it came in and Googled the price tag info. Found the origin of the cutting board, plus several others of different breeds! Check it out if ya wanna:

Great stuff.
All of my animals have been rescued. Sadly we are down to one cat (Luna), a frog (Mr. Tiddles) and a blue and gold macaw (Oscar).

We have put our search for another dog on hold due to a lot of traveling. Once we know we will be home more, we will look again.

We have had our first name change...
The wife said "Monkey" was out and he is now known as "Barkley"
Works for me and he still responds.

He lays like my dog. I though my dog was just an idiot. In my defense, he is an idiot sometimes. But then, so am I.

Cute pup. Both my niece and nephew have rescues. Great personalities that mesh with each other and the family as a whole. Both senior dogs that took to their new pack like they had always been there.

We lost one of the best this weekend . . . and when we did . . . I immediately went to this thread to remind myself it's a cycle. Watching Monkey . . .Barkly or whatever he got named brought my smile back.

We've thought, on several occasions, we were going to have to put Cleo, the 15 year old rescue Bassett down and each time, true to form, she showed signs of having a bit of puppy left in her.

She loved to go to the farm on weekends and frolic in the snow. She couldn't walk for so I rigged up a Radio Flyer little red wagon, complete with NY personalized plate "CLEO" and we'd trail along behind the younger pup.

This weekend Cleo was sprawled out before a roaring fire on Saturday night . . . hunting Easter Eggs and rolling in the grass in the back yard Sunday morning and feeling great.

We got home last night and about 11:00pm she walked to her bed . . . laid down and I discovered she wasn't breathing 2 hours later. Just laid down . . . and peacefully brought a wonderful live of love and giving to a beautiful conclusion.

I hope I go that way.

And true to form . . . this little guy, we found in Maine last summer . . . was rescued from a very abusive home and hit what I call "the adoption dog lottery". Life goes on.

Sorry to hear. I hate to hear it... I have been there a few times and it never gets easier.
My eyes are tearing up think about it.
I have been blessed to have a dog or two in the house since 1993 or 1994.

hope this put a smile on your face...

Sorry to hear, Court. It's never easy, but it sounds like she won the "forever home" lottery all right! I lost a rescue a few years ago in a similar fashion - Calvin was 18, playing one afternoon, having fun, gimpy and clunky...but active. And he just didn't get up the next morning. He was a yearling when I rescued him and we had a great life together; it's been 4 years and I still miss the ol' guy. Looks like Cleo had a great life - be proud of that!

I'm currently trying to spend every moment I can with my pug. She's also a teen...and starting to get clunky as well. Still active, still wagging her tail all the time...but starting to look her age. So I'm soaking up all the pug-love I can!

They're not dogs, they are flowers.

Give them love and food, they will bloom into your life, show colors you've not dreamed of, and they will return the blessing.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Court. My next door neighbors kept Basset Hounds, where I grew up. Every time I see one, I smile, just can't help it.

OK, that pic of your terrier running, you should frame it.

I have a Sentinel, and I have an Enforcer.

One is the half blind JR Jack HaHa, the other is a Basenji.

Rocky, as long as he is awake, protects everything he knows/owns. We give him anti-seizure meds, and have the BEST dog on the planet.

D'Ogee is the backup- half the size of a Doberman, but twice the mind, focus, and drive. Just lazy and self-centered, as most hounds, but he still loves us...

We sleep well.

It definitely is a cycle....and at sometimes a weird one. We had discussed a new dog for months since our Jack Russell passed away 3.5 years ago from cancer. We decided we wanted a rescue, maybe something a little bigger, a little different, and definitely not a puppy. What did we end up with......

At least we got the rescue part down. This little guy found us and the Wife and I both just folded. A 4-month old Jack Russell puppy that was pulled from a kill shelter in NC. His name is now Max and he looks almost exactly like the one we lost 3.5 years ago. Its tough doing the puppy thing again, but he is awesome, and it will be worth it. No idea how little guys like this end up in shelters.....he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.

The puppy thing is wearing me out!
He is sleeping all night and going outside in the morning to do his business.
But during the day after he is let out of the crate, he will take a wiz without warning.
Glad I have hardwood floors!

On the upside... he is running my 3 older dogs into the ground.
They are taking more naps and pass out at bed time.

I hear ya on the no warning wizzes. Nothing like taking them out for 5-10 mins just to have them piss on the floor 30 seconds after you bring them back in. Just when I think he is starting to get it......LOL. Luckily, our little guy likes hard surfaces as well. I was going to replace the living room carpet this spring.....I think I might hold off until fall now just in case.

Animals + carpet = no bueno.

With hardwood and laminate, we have fun every day when the mailman/Satan/UPS guy/FedEx comes.

I have been kicking the sidecar idea around for a few years.
Might need to get serious about it.
That looks like a ton of fun!

That film shows at least one dog leaning into the corners. Most of them looked around the windscreen, and one leaned into the wind. Good film.

Sidecars and dogs, fun for both people and dogs. Just remember you can't ride without the dog, he knows the difference between the sound of the sidecar and my other motorcycles.

Ooop- judging by the lean angle of the Norton, and probable velocity, that dog's an experienced rider!

Awesome.
