Your 401k doesn't belong to any corporation and is not a pension. Different animals. Take away California (or New York City) and Clinton loses the pop vote. By a lot. There's a reason the pop vote doesn't matter. California breaks away and Dems never win another national election ever. Those 55 votes are crucial to the left. It's interesting...you threw out all the typical talking points. I remain unimpressed by the rhetoric. |

Also you link gerrymandering to the national election. You do realize that gerrymandering has zero effect on the national election, don't you? Gerrymandering goes on all the time by both parties. Nothing new there. At least you don't claim to be a moderate, like many of the extreme left. |

Arbalest, I'm a Liberal too. Do you mean "Progressive"? ( do you want to impose central authority over all the peasants? ) I do love your handle. I've shot one. Both with Goat's foot lever and Crankquin. My personal crossbow is a 14th century design and can just be spanned by hand with a foot stirrup. gerrymandered their state's voting districts to give Republicans a structural election advantage That's true with both parties, when you're in power you diddle the districts to make sure your side wins. But you do realize that only applies to State Elections and has nothing to do with the Presidential election or the Electoral College? ?? That's strictly by popular total vote in each state. Except the cheating special electors no one voted for, but were appointed by the Party Leaders that the Dems used to give Hillary the nomination. Actually legal since a Party is a Private Club and can run things as they wish, which is always to keep the folk in power, in power. I'm hoping to see my Social Security to continue til I die, since my 401k isn't great I too hope things work out for the economy, but I'm cynical. I maxed out my 401K. ( Thrift Savings Plan...but same rules more or less ) Work matches half for the first 5% etc. but I can go to 15%, and have. Of course if the market tanks before I retire, I'm screwed. I give that 50/50. remember when Reagan allowed corporations to raid their fixed benefit pension funds to free up all that cash to invest? not really, but I'll take your word for it. I didn't have any thing like that during the Reagan years. Did he also allow the Unions to steal all the money in their retirement funds to build golf courses & resorts for the Union Leaders? Cause that screwed a lot of workers. Still is. That has nothing to do with your 401k. BTW, some Democrat Senators want to take that from you and promise you a fixed income retirement plan that they will pay you. They won't have any money to pay you then, but they don't care, they just want to spend the money we've saved all our lives, now. As of today, they can't touch it, but golly gee they want to. ( and I'm sure some Republican Senators do too... the rats ) recent election of Donald Trump is the culmination of a many years in the making... Oh, no! you got that all wrong. Trump is the outsider that the Establishment Conservatives hate even more than they hated Hillary. That's why so many said they'd vote for Hillary. ( not normal people, that's really, really rich Republican Establishment types that thought the Koch brothers would pave their way to power. ) The Establishment Republicans got a very rude shock when the majority of real people voted for Donald instead of Jeb. Jeb was supposed to have a lock on the job, like Hillary did. But too many people saw the Jeb team as what they are. Political whores with no connection to the people. ( I'm being unfair to whores. Whores give value for pay. ) But, hey, I'm cynical.... D.C. could vanish tomorrow and I'd pretty much only miss the Smithsonian.

Wow, this thread really blew up since I last visited
Regarding Blake's pic, I thought it was hilarious, but also inappropriate for this board. His sandbox, his rules, so if he feels it is ok, then so be it. Click for big meme (Message edited by blake on February 10, 2017) |

I think I'm going to have this engraved and mounted on my door. Now if only I could have the same notice on email, home phone or cell...
