Matt, that's the one I was looking at except the newer version. It's still around $50 but more accurate.
The igaging Absolute Plus is the newer version.

So what is a person to do if all they have is a wimpy little desktop mill and need to make a 2 inch circle in some aluminum plate?

Bolthole circle with overlapping holes (35 in this case). Used a roughing mill because I didn't care about the surface finish.

Making a spring compressor for the rear shock on my little 125cc race bike. Four bolts and nuts to compress the spring so I can (hopefully) take it off and then service the shock (get rid of the Chinesium oil inside) for hopefully better performance on the track. I'll have to post up the article if/when I'm successful with the oil change.

Have you ever seen one of these?

You would have to take it really slowly.

I've messed around with respringing rear shocks and used a pair of ratchet straps to compress them.

Storing all that force is scary though.
Like holding a crossbow to your head!

That's called an offset boring attachment. It's the best way to make large accurate holes. I highly recommend one. I bored out the crank support bushing on my harley with one of these! Very accurate and easy.

I don't have enough power for a bar that big. Half inch drills can be an issue, same for half inch mills. Thinking I may need to work on the motor and clean up commutator and brushes.

I have a mini mill and this small rotary table from grizzley. It would work for your needs.

Rotary table would work good. Fairly good price at Grizzly. Can find them even cheaper through other Chinese and Indian outlets via ebay or amazon. Chuck up a hole saw even. Slow rpms lots of oil. You want to peck at it though and clean the cutting teeth. Aluminum has a tendency to cake up and break things.

For this a hole saw would have worked, but I didn't have the size. Have a small rotary table, would have had to drill more holes to mount the piece on that table. Probably would have taken the same time to cut down through the plate. Each plate took like 30 minutes once it was cut to the rough square.
