Some of you may be familiar with Cleveland Cycle Werks. They've been building small cafe racers, bobbers, dirt bikes, etc. using Chinese engines. They've apparently recently started building bikes in the US. The interesting thing is our old friend Bruce Belfer is now involved.

This was posted on Facebook today:

quote:

Who the hell is Bruce Belfer?

Long story short, he had the opportunity to buy Eric Buell Racing, he ended up walking from that opportunity. Scott approached Bruce about working with Cleveland, and the two of them got to work shortly after. Both share a passion for affordable, quality product and American manufacture.

US production of Cleveland motorcycles is already in progress.

It's very good to see that Bruce is still involved in the motorcycle business and that we haven't heard the last of him.

Their new Misfit is on my very short list. I want a cafe bike to round out my stable... This is interesting and fateful news indeed.

That's a helluva front end for such a puny bike!

Meh... but I surely wish Belfer and company the best of luck!

$3695 for the 500cc Misfit II

It would be a nice "around town" cafe for a decent price. I may need to try one out for shits and grins this summer.

They are tiny bikes with tiny engines. If you want any level of "performance" look elsewhere.

Been there, done that. That's why we are here. I just want one of these too. Mostly for me, but also to have a smaller bike in the garage my boys can learn on.

I've been riding a scooter with 15 horsepower for 3 years now. The relationship between fun, speed and power are not linear.

I have owned and ridden bikes with up to 250 horsepower. (Massive modifications, displacement over 1,400cc and lots and lots of nitrous).

I enjoyed my XB12s with it's 87 horsepower to the ground. In fact I have enjoyed ALL the bikes I have owned. But the one that stirs my memory the most was my first "real motorcycle", a 1965 Honda C-200, a mighty 90cc with pushrods and rocker arms that made a pavement wrinkling 4.5 horsepower.

The rides I did and things I did on that thing were EPIC! Spent last summer with anytime access to an R1. Rode it, reset my gyros, dragged a little knee. Most likely my last hurrah, it just doesn't interest me anymore. The thrill is gone. These days I think a lot of long ago. And I think, damn, it might be fun to get another little bike. Just a simple motorcycle that is reasonably comfortable and can run along at 60.

Honda Grom ALMOST makes it. A Wolf 150 would be fine, but no dealers around here. I once built a CB-125 into café' form. Wish I could fine one of those now. I would put one of those Chinese motors in it and ride the wheels off. They were FUN. If a CCW dealer comes to town, I will check them out.

That Misfit is a great looking bike.Reminds me of the GB500 I wanted back in the 80's. If Bruce Belfer is involved and could get tooling and rights to EBR products along with what CCW has I think they could make some cool bikes.

Another smallish / beginner bike I just ran across this week and had a chance to see in person. VERY nice build quality for the price point.
Primarily a premium India market bike but first impression for me is far and above any other Indian market bike I've seen.
300 and 600 CC versions available right now in the US.

The bikes look interesting on their own, but I can't really see any potential connections between a company making smaller bikes like this, and Erik with his dreams of making world class superbikes.

I full agree about smaller bikes though. One of my first bikes was a ninja 250. I put 14k miles on that the year I owned it and had a great time doing it. We briefly bought one for my wife to learn on as well, and I'd steal it every so often for my ride to work, still just as fun. The most fun bike I've ever had was a yz426 supermoto. Granted the thing could still wheelie in every gear, but that's just more of a testament to light weight and a good suspension being more fun than big HP.

What a strange site "Lovelymotor" is. I can figure out where it comes from, but English is obviously not their first language!

Nope. None. I'm just waxing poetic on other small / mid'ling bikes that the CCW bikes distraction started for me.

Lovelymotor. Reminds me of the first Datsun Z Cars that came off the boat. Stickered in Japan as "Fairlady" which, I believe is a translation to English that lost the zip of the original name in Japanese. There was nothing Fairladylike about those old cars.
