The sub $10k prices just like EBR has been talking about...

This is quite a different situation than 2009 when most the parts for the orphaned Buell motorcycles were in the Harley-Davidson system.

We will be keeping our fingers crossed to see what occurs but no one is obligated, at least in any legal way, to provide parts or service.

The sole exception may be a continuing warranty obligation and . . . just my guess . . is that any remaining parts may be hoarded to meet that single legal obligation.

It will be interesting.

James Tordik says the 2016 bikes will be warranted, so that's good.

How quickly things change.
Considering in March of 2016 LAP/EBR stated having financial stability, profitable multi-year plan and a 5-10 year vision.
Very hard to do when you aren't selling product in any significant volume

Just posted to EBR's Facebook page by Dan Hurda:

quote:

I just want to clarify for people exactly what the press release concerning EBR said.

EBR Motorcycles is ceasing manufacturing operations and winding down that part of the business. The company is NOT closing.

Warranty and service parts will continue to be available for the foreseeable future.

The volume of orders and phone calls has increased dramatically since the press release, so if you aren't getting immediate responses to your questions it is not because we stopped shipping parts or answering email, it is simply that just like before the press release there is a very small staff at EBR but now there is 4 or 5 times the work. Be patient we will answer your questions, we will ship your orders.

If you do have parts of technical questions as always email them to parts@ebr.com or tech@ebr.com do not ask them via Facebook.

Unless they're focusing on engineering contracts to raise capital and build relationships for future manufacturing...

Ferris... do you consider a Triumph a Triumph? Do you think an IPhone is an Apple product?

Just curious. It's a fuzzy line to draw, but I can certainly see EBR continuing without directly manufacturing motorcycles.

FWIW: My Triumph is a Triumph (Manufactured in Hinckley, Leicestershire in 2002)
Most of the new models are now manufactured in the Far East. I don't think any new bikes are made in the UK by Triumph.
IMHO: EBR are ceasing production at this time as they do not have the sales figures to underline continuing production.
If demand increases there is no reason why they cannot restart manufacturing new bikes.
LAP seem to have EBR's interests at heart.
Unfortunately, the market is against EBR at this time,
It will be interesting to see what the future holds....

The IPhone is probably the most extreme example. Apple doesn't make them, Foxconn does (for now).

But everyone thinks of them as an apple product.

I could see a similar future for vehicle manufacturing, especially boutique brands.

I just pulled this from EBRs News Page:

EBR Motorcycles, LLC (“EBR”) located in East Troy, Wisconsin will continue to operate in East Troy to honor warranties and provide technical and parts support to current dealers and riders who bought motorcycles manufactured by EBR. EBR will begin a wind down of production operations. EBR will continue to review strategic alternatives with interested investors regarding production operations.

The limited production of remaining 2017 and 2016 EBR motorcycles are currently available from EBR’s top dealers.

(Emphasis is mine)

It sounds to me like "We ain't dead yet!" There's been some innuendo about Bruce Belfer floating around the net; so, Maybe? Of course, it could all be wishful thinking on my part, too.

However; if they have given up the ghost; there are still a number of 2017 bikes that are unsold. I might yet be riding on a Gentleman's Express before too much longer.

He signed a no talky agreement. That doesn't mean he is buying, just that he can't say anything he was privy to. Don't read it as him trying to hint at anything. You could be disappointed.

Unlikely that it is last year's. Those things usually have pretty short terms. I imagine it is new and with a period of less than 90 days.

"shit just got real" *wink* sounds a whole lot like he's trying to hint at something, but I agree there's still a really good chance of being disappointed whether he's trying to buy EBR or not. We've already been down that road once.

Very interesting article in my 3/17 CW: "93 Octane". Last two sentences.

"But this modified Octane is so close to carrying on Buell's commitment to the American musclebike that it hurts.

Dear Victory, build this bike."

Double posted also to the Victory demise thread.

Except Buell was innovative and always pushing to try new things, and the Octane was just a rebranded Scout. I would love to see that engine in a street bike though.

Up- pretty much correct. IF you can get a copy of the article, the builder/stunter, Aaron Colton made lots of modifications to the stock platform to produce the "93 Octane" custom. Ended up with a very appealing machine!

To add insult to injury, in the same magazine they also test the Moto Guzzi MGX21 against the Victory Magnum X1. I'd LOVE to grab one of those Guzzi's... too bad about Victory though. Looking at Charlie's bike, it had a lot going for it.

I haven't gotten my copy of CW yet but I found some pics of the bike on line. It would be pretty cool if you could find a "firesale" Octane cheap and mod it similarly.

I really think Polaris completely missed the boat by not making the Octane more of a sporty standard instead of just another cruiser.

It probably doesn't matter. Even if they did make the Octane more of a Standard, it wouldn't have helped in time to save the brand. Just as the Black Lightning didn't save EBR.
