Howdy all,

Please bear with me on this...

I owned two '06 Buell Ulysses (totaled the first one on a deer) on which I put almost 90,000 miles. Even though the Uly stranded me on four consecutive rides, I LOVED that bike (to which Mrs. Greg will attest). I was fairly active on the "Big, Bad, and Dirty" forum---some might remember me there.

After BMC was killed, I eventually went to a '13 BMW R1200GS because (being a fairly long-distance rider) I needed support. Recently acquired a low-suspension '16 GSA, and like it almost as much (okay, as much as) the Uly.

Now for my question...in President Trump's Inauguration Address he stated:

"...We will follow two simple rules -- buy American and hire American."

So it looks like my next bike will---of necessity---be a Harley-Davidson (haven't heard from Erik about the 1190AX for a while).

Which model Harley-Davidson will be most like my GSA? I'm a little apprehensive, but if them's the rules...at least I'll be able to touch the ground (I'm 5-8).

--Doc

P.S. Just realized that at my current 22,000 miles/year, in four years the GSA will still be under 100,000 miles...so perhaps it's a moot point.

So my wife had the local NBC station on this morning to see the local weather. They ran a piece hitting back against Trump about the supposedly low crowd estimates, complete with their photographic "evidence". Now I saw that the area was packed full during the inauguration. The picture they put on the screen showed it to be about half full. Clearly, it was taken while people were being admitted to the event. Overall, this is a stupid issue, except for how it shows the extent to which the MSM will stoop to push their own agenda, and skew the facts toward whatever suits their agenda. It's just something that we all have to be aware of daily, as we are flooded with what is little more than propaganda. It's all so transparent that it makes me wonder how they can look into a mirror.

I think the "buy American" motto will be encouraged through the trade policies. There's another thread here talking about the EU and beef and European small-cc motorcycles. Basically the EU doesn't want US chemical-fed beef so the US is countering by taxing EU motorcycles. That seems to be a non sequitur association there but the idea is the same. Imports will be taxed and thus more expensive. Domestics will be therefore protected and more appealing to the domestic consumer.

Imports truly have been given free reign in our marketplace and the combination of that and of cheap overseas labor is what's killed our domestic manufacturing. And it's one of his target policies - keep the manufacturing here and keep the consumers interested in domestic products.

That said? There is no comparable HD for a GS. Period. No ground clearance, no suspension travel, no light weight. But yes, you'll be able to put your feet flat : )

Press Secretary Sean Spicer Delivers First White House Full Press Briefing (Video)
By Sundance, 01/23/2017

Immediate DC legacy-media ‘splodey heads because this White House doesn’t defer to Washington DC insider corporate news agencies. The Trump White House sent a clear message to DC-based major media outlets, and that set a tone of equality the tender snowflakes within corporate media just cannot accept.

For decades the White House has deferred to newswires and major TV networks, all of whom are represented in the first row of the White House briefing room, for the first several questions at the daily briefing. However, press secretary Sean Spicer called on very different group of reporters.

He first called on the New York Post. Then, the Christian Broadcasting Network. That was followed by Univision and Fox Business. Spicer then took a question from Urban Radio Network, and then finally the Associated Press, which up until now has usually gotten the first question.

Epic arrogant media ‘splodeys begin immediately as NBC’S Kelly O’Donnell said Spicer was skipping over major news outlets that cover the White House all day, every day.

Promise Fulfilled: President Trump Signs Executive Order Withdrawing From TPP
By Sundance, 01/23/2017

Well, it’s officially official. A people’s president who keeps campaign promises. TPP is dead, and Commerce Secretary nominee Wilbur Ross, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and the head of the White House Trade Council, Peter Navarro, are expected to lead negotiations on new bi-lateral trade agreements.

GOPe republicans will respond with angst, and traditional liberal democrats are stuck because the majority of their constituents, and labor unions, support Trump’s position.

quote:

WASHINGTON DC – President Trump signed an executive order on Monday announcing his plan to withdraw the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.

The order fulfills Trump’s campaign promise to abandon the Pacific Rim trade pact early in his administration.

“We’ve been talking about this for a long time,” Trump said after signing the order in the Oval Office, adding that leaving the 12-nation pact is a “great thing for the American worker.”

The president also signed two other executive actions: one that places a hiring freeze on non-military federal workers and another that cuts off federal funding for foreign organizations that provide abortions. (read more)

Additionally, President Trump [met] with business leaders in the White House. Trump said Monday there will be "advantages” to companies that make their products in the United States, and suggested he will impose a “substantial border tax” on foreign goods entering the country.

The president also repeated a campaign promise to cut regulations “by 75 percent, maybe more.” Trump hosted the breakfast with about a dozen leaders in the Roosevelt Room. Among those in attendance were Kevin Plank of Under Armour, Elon Musk of Tesla, Marilyn Hewson of Lockheed Martin and Mario Longhi of US Steel. Trump suggested he wanted to hold these meetings quarterly.

I have yet to see today's press briefing, but the one by Spicer on Saturday was an embarrassment.

There are so many ways it could have been handled better, instead of coming out attacking and generally being an a-hole, they could have owned the smaller crowd or not even mentioned it.

They could have also owned the Women's march instead of ignoring it.

I was expecting better from them.

Well worth the read, even the listen, even if you hate Glenn Beck.

Which hatred says far more about you than Glenn, IMHO. I don't hate Matt Damon, and he's said even stupider things. Ok, just as stupid. I was a fan for a while, but his dislike for Trump kinda poisoned the show for me. Just like other right wing pundits, this last year has been polarizing and damaging... in large part for the reasons discussed below.

RIAZ: It’s less about the discomfort and more about for two years, you were taught that there was nothing positive about this man. That it was like electing Hitler. For two years. There was not one positive thing he said. Now, I am not a Trump supporter. That being said if you’re unfair and uneven about news, why are you vilifying? So the result of him winning created this panic that we elected a monster. And that’s the direct product of how the media portrayed him for two years.

Photoshop would be arrow-straight graphics. You can, in the shots where the line runs vertically, see the wavy nature of the tape they put down.

And while we're viewing the walk video...Melania looked absolutely elegant. Covered from head to toe, nothing "sexy" or "controversial", just simple and gorgeous. Her wardrobe head deserves a HUGE raise over that one. Outstanding work.

Photoshop doesn't have to be arrow straight, i can't tell if it's real or not, though I don't know why someone would go out of their way to do that.
Melania needs to gain a couple pounds. Women shouldn't look like toothpicks. She has those sunken in cheeks that usually indicate an eating disorder.

I'm not insulting her or her character, just her physique. Has nothing to do with politics.

I agree it looks very vivid in the pic I posted, and I'm not familiar with the person who originally tweeted the pic and caption, but it's quite obvious from the video that Sifo posted-up that the thin, blue line is, indeed, there. Quite the contrary, IMO.

There are so many ways it could have been handled better, instead of coming out attacking and generally being an a-hole...

He gave the presstitutes exactly what they've been giving Trump for the last 18 months: Grief. They deserve every bit of it.

...they could have owned the smaller crowd...

Have you not been following this thread? There's plenty of evidence posted-up to refute the MSM's false claims re: crowd size.

...or not even mentioned it.

He mentioned it because the MSM (at the behest of ______??) was pounding the airwaves with an attack meme regarding the size of the crowd. One of the things that got President Trump elected, IMO, is his willingness to fight back against the media. Spicer seemed nervous (geez, who wouldn't be in that situation?), but he did his job and said what needed to be said. It's high time the mainstream media is held accountable for their lies, distortions, omissions and obfuscations on behalf of the left.

Well for one...I was THERE.

The empty mall photo was taken, by my estimate, around 0730. Look at some of the TV coverage DURING his speech. Not a blade of grass from the Capitol to the Potomac.

I was also there Saturday (my cousin's company got picked up to do some more work for the Saturday event - money all spends the same) - the mall was about half-full. People from...I'd say...the National Gallery, to the Washington Monument. That was the most I saw on the mall at one time.

Next?

alternate truth

There is that little trigger phrase. Who started that set of words being used together recently. There is no such thing based in reality. No Schrodinger's Pregnant/not pregnant cat existing in some snowflake's truth/alternate truth loonie bin. If your opinion of a situation is being called a fact by you, shame on you. It is some blowing of smoke up my back side. People need to understand the difference between definitions and connotations. As soon as I see "alternate truth" my sphincter clamps up as I have a phobia of contracting annusticular cancer from the carcinogens in the smoke screen. The felt insinuation from the use of the phrase is I know the truth and you are making stuff up. It is belittling. May as well say I am holier than thou in my use of allusion and will in my know-it-all arrogance relegate all you say no matter how true it may be to a smokey puff of illusion to further stifle the truth and hide the fact that the smoke actually billowed from my blow hardiness. Lets think for ourselves and quite parroting all the male bovine defecation. Don't you get a bad taste in your mouth from that?

http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/22/politics/kellyanne-c onway-alternative-facts/

Hmm court it seems like I can see white 1 or 2 sections behind the pool, and count possibly 5 sections that look full from this lower angle. look at the Reuters photos comparing the 2 inaugurations, and compare it to the cnn big pixel photo you can see where there are white spaces in the same spots.

Wow rat there were people behind the buildings in front of the Wash mon. show me some proof please. But hey if you are in a crowd of hundreds of thousands at eye level I'm sure your view was better then a Reuters cameraman in the Monument!

And yes Court there is no reason to care about the numbers... near as much as Trump cares about it! He has nothing better to do then complain about this??? Almost as good as Drumph standing in front of the stars of fallen CIA operatives and tell them about his "war" with the media, I'm sure the intelligence agency could feel his pain due to the similarities in the wars each has waged!

Should Trump care much about numbers estimates? Perhaps not. Should he care about honest reporting. Yes he should. So should you. So should I.

Disagreements about estimates is one thing. Trump is justifiably discussing flat out dishonesty though. Compare this photo from Court's post above...

to the photo taken from the Washington Monument, supposedly when Trump was actually being sworn in...

Are these photos taken at the same time? It's more than clear to me that they were not. Court's photo also seems representative of what I saw in live coverage of the event. The photo being used by the MSM (same one I saw on NBC the other morning as they discussed this) shows entire sections that are virtually empty. It's easy to see that was not the case at the time that they claimed the photo was taken. This isn't a discrepancy in estimating numbers. This is flat out dishonesty, by those entrusted to give us honest, unbiased information. We are supposed to accept that the reporter is telling the truth about when that photo was taken. The problem is, there is verifiable proof that what we are being told has been fabricated. THIS is the real "fake news". The reality is that the vast majority of news agencies are willingly engaged in this fake news. Any news agency pushing this photo as genuine, has engaged in providing fake news. They should then be viewed as such. Nothing but political propagandists.
