Two Seasons, want to thank Doris and you for hosting the Friday morning breakfast. Doris always puts together a wonderful breakfast. HC was a great event this year. Also, especially desire to thank Erik and his crew for sharing on Thursday, and Chris for hosting what turned out to be a great garage night.

Been too busy to add here, but...

I went by the factory Wednesday evening and saw an open dock door.
Managed to get me and the RS Carbon to it and found Eric(they called him E-Rock, cause there's only ONE Erik at EBR....) and Jim Sef aka Mr. Retail.
They were almost always together Thursday at the sale and in the days after.
I found them BOTH to be friendly and easy to work with; the last couple of days, I showed Jim my haul, gave him MY price and he was good with that.

Quite often, we set peoples actions by OUR OWN actions. Jim told me many times how hard the liquidation was for him to deal with.
Buellers with bad attitudes didn't help....

I kept going back and finding more "project" stuff I want to do.
Some of the stuff I paid a fairly high price but overall I was happy, with other parts helping lower the average.

Big stuff - 2 NIB 2009 1125 crate motors, complete with wiring and full intakes, 2 sets of RX/SX heads and 1.5 full valvetrains, a pitbull rearstand specifically for the RS, several sets of XBRR titanium valves and a bunch of little stuff.

As far as "Homecoming", Chris' garage night was great we had a good time there.
Wish I would have gone across the street to the hotel and gotten helmet, jacket and gloves as we left the factory, but T-shirt, and ball cap worked out OK.
Following Brankin was a lot of fun too, sure are a lot of twisties for a place with no mountains.
Breakfast at Two_seasons (Steve and Doris) was one of the highlights, along with dinner at Roma's where we were joined by Erik on his SX.

I'll post some of my pix this evening, I gotta get to the shop now tho.
Later my brothers and sisters.

What are the pegs on the Black Lightning?
They look like something I might want....but can I get them anywhere?

Sorry to have missed you all at breakfast Friday. I needed to get home. I'm extra sorry for another reason. If you recall I put new front tire on my bike before heading over. I must not have wiped the tire down well enough before I left. On the way home in a left hander I must have got into the release compound. I was only going 15-20. I've had the bike over to scrub pegs lots of times, but not in this case. The front tire just "went away" past the apex, just as I began rolling on throttle. I low sided on the left side, and slid into the ditch.
No significant damage to me. I got bit of rash on my forearm through the mesh in my suit, and the bike ended up with the exhaust can on my right calf, so I got a minor burn there before I reared my backside up and walked out from under it. I was a bit stiff the next day. but otherwise fine.
I tore up my super suit a bit, ( knees and elbows)and scuffed the leather off the end of my steel toe boot.
The bike ended up with a busted turn signal, a little rash on the tank corner, scuffed the mirror, and bent the fairing stay a few degrees sideways, but the arms are still intact. While it was secured to on the flatbed I borrowed another tie-down from the tow driver and "tweaked" it enough to get the bike to turn again. That would be no biggie to fix. I bought it busted, then repaired, cut and modified it to raise the fairing 2" The shift lever sheared the lower pivot screw, the Garage at the tow shop hit it with a drill and ran a bolt and nut through it so I could get home. I was back on the road in a couple hours.

The fairing is cracked below the bottom curve, and right at the mirror corner, so I think it'll repair easy enough. And I already have a new ZG touring screen to replace the busted one. The real kicker is Erik just signed the other side of the fairing the day before, so when I go to paint, I'll have to figure out how to blend it. I'm also double glad I didn't have the unobtainium bags on it.

I am thrilled to see you writing this and that you are, by and large, unharmed.

Take a look at that top sentence and . . for just a moment . . think how it would read wit the words "suit" and "steel toe boot" changed to "t-shirt" and "sneakers".

Mnscrounger, so sorry to hear that, but glad you are alive and walking. Pain is a good thing, it's a teacher.

Consider sending your fairing to Erik after you fix/paint it. I'm sure Erik would be thrilled to re-sign it.

We're sorry too that you missed the HC breakfast. Hopefully you'll be able to make it next year.

If he signed it with silver paint marker, that's the same way he signed my S2 at the 25th. I was able to get a local painter to clearcoat over it for preservation - perhaps if your painter can blend the color towards center, then clear the whole thing....?

Glad to hear you're OK. Brakleen on a rag for every new tire...I wipe mine down every time I thread an axle through. I know you know...and this is your one "forget" : )

I'm also glad I wasn't riding in a group and took some other poor fellow out on my detour oof road.
RAT: I never heard of the brakleen trick, I just used a little gas and a shop rag, then soap n water. That's one to remember.
TWO (and Rat): My painter is me, so I'm sure it will come out passable for a 15 year old daily commuter.
If I need Erik to sign it again, by God I'll just ride over to the next homecoming to hand him the ball paint marker myself.

Court: T shirt and sneakers? My "biker" buddies all look at me sideways when I show up with my gear on an 85 degree day, but I ride a Buell and they'll never understand that either. So we chalk up our differences in each others choices as individual freedom and enjoy the ride as friends do.
I don't think the skin underneath the top layer is going to be better looking so I'm in no hurry to wear down to it.
Had I been wearing t shirt and sneakers, I would have been given a stretcher ride to Madison. There a nice ER resident would have spent the afternoon abrading. Then because my injuries would not be life threatening, they wouldn't want to admit me overnight. I would have been discharged in the mid evening with no wheels, and nowhere to stay.
That would have sucked the fun out of the trip.

The crash was an error of judgement on my part, and I learned from it. Aside from the bike bashing, it was still a beautiful ride home. ( Though after dark the headlight was useless, pointing about fifteen feet in front and ten to the side. Fortunately by then I was in streetlight suburbia.)

I usually scuff mine up with a piece of medium grade sandpaper. The amount and slickness of the release compound seems to vary from brand to brand too. Seems like it would be relatively simple for the manufacturers to add a step to their process to remove the compound before sending the tire out.

I use the brakleen method too but I did read in a bike mag that Dr. Pepper works real well but since I don't drink soda I've never tried it.

Dr. Pepper is also good for traction for Arena racing.

Has the countdown started for Homecoming 2018? Maybe in a new thread?

I'm not anxious or anything...

Well, I received intel last week that another former elf (both Buell & EBR) was interested in hosting Garage Night for 2018 Homecoming. There's plenty of time to get things figured out, but what does everyone think? At Chris's again? I think everyone enjoyed themselves there this year. Or do we rotate garages from year to year?

Even though I look forward to being home for Christmas in a month, I definitely look forward to coming home for Homecoming!

As a nice change of pace, I plan to actually attend garage night this year...

Best laid plans and all...
