Again. Period. all else is propaganda for the fools. pay no attention to the "percentage". That's become a lie by tricky math. Unemployment has gone up every year Obama has been in office. Almost every month. And these scum wonder why they are losing elections. People are slowly getting smarter about this stuff. Hopefully in a few year the people now in therapy for Trump Trauma will grow up too. | ||

I saw an article that surveyed economists recently and asked them how many jobs needed to be added each month to equal new additions to the workforce. The number they came up with was 145K. They said it is lower than in years past because the large number of Baby Boomers that are retiring and that people are staying in school longer. The retiring baby boomers makes sense but the school one does not. All that would do it delay their entry into the work force. So it might lower the number for a short period of time but it would jump back up once the first wave of those people that delayed entering the work force started looking for jobs. Then it would normalize at the same rate as before the delay took place. That is unless those people that stayed in school longer NEVER looked for a job. But that doesn't make sense. Also, I find it hard to believe that the number of people staying in school longer is statistically large enough to impact the overall number. | ||

Odd that the number "gets lower" even though the population increases. I don't doubt you read that. I don't know what the "real" number is, not having bothered to do the math, and I'm sure there is disagreement on the number, because "economics" is not a science, it's an art. If we keep the same rate of unemployment, 8.1%, we would need 545,551 jobs per month and it would take an entire year to get to the same August rate of unemployment, 8.1%. This is because by increasing the labor participation rate 2.5%, we took 6,089,150 people not counted and added them to the labor force statistics and of course, they would enter in as unemployed. The unemployment rate is the ratio of those in the civilian labor force who do not have a job against those who who do. We can also estimate the number of jobs needed each month, just to maintain, by rough numbers. If we assume a smoothed noninstitutional civilian population growth rate of 0.076% per month, then next month's population growth would be 185,617 additional people ages 16 and over and not locked up somewhere. If we then assume the labor participation rate of this new growth would be 68.0% and not the actual, artificially low 63.5%, we would get an additional 126,920 jobs needed to keep up with this population growth. This is much more realistic for new population growth is probably going to enter the labor force looking for a job. The BLS counts illegal immigrants, green card holders and foreign guest workers in their statistics and most of the population growth is due to immigration. These people either already have a job upon entering the country, or are going to want one fast. Bottom line, yes Virginia, increased immigration does affect labor markets, all else being static. I do believe to say our economic growth and thus labor demand is static at the moment is not an understatement. Check out the Atlanta Federal Reserve jobs calculator. It's Economic Populist approved, we checked their arithmetic and assumptions. If this is not enough to convince you, we suggest reading this article, this or this one for more background. Finally our favorite and never reported BLS statistic amplifies the terrible situation for labor in this country. The BLS surveys people considered not part of the labor force and asks if they want a job right now. Below is a graph of the people who said yes and watch how this figure swells. I haven't hated Obama... I agreed that the health care system needed overhauled, but did not like the Affordable Care Act. Luckily, I had been insulated from the effects. In order to reduce the cost of healthcare, we have switched to a high deductible plan with HSA. Basically, my diabetes meds were around $100/month in copays. Now? No prescription coverage. My meds, out of pocket are something like $2100/month. Without prescription coverage, but somehow the rates went up with higher deductibles and higher out of pockets for everyone. If the disease doesn't bankrupt you, the insurance will!  | ||

It's supposed to. The Unaffordable Care Act is supposed to screw us until we demand socialized medicine. Plus payback the insurance & medical companies who bribed Obama. Those who didn't will suffer. My costs roughly doubled after my old insurance company dropped all coverage. ...... then came back with a more expensive version by law. But I an covered for prenatal care. | ||

Scanning a network is a LONG way from trying to hack it, and to start a scan you pretty much just input an IP address and hit "scan" to any one of a large number of tools. It's easy to put in the wrong one. If you have an internet connection, it is being scanned often by lots of different parties. Also don't rule out that the DHS has an undisclosed breach, and it was an attacker on their system scanning out for other systems to attack. My guess though is that some DHS computer person with medium talent and poor judgement read an article about weak security and Russians hacking the election and decided to do their own scan to see if there were glaring holes. Part curiosity, part barney fife wanting to be a rock star hero, and mostly just poor judgement. To some degree, when you hook a computer up to the internet, you basically give permission for people to try and use it. There isn't even clear law that a port scan would even be illegal. | ||
