Mike Rovnyak. You need to get off the internet every once in a while, Hugh... 1313 |

And nobody's going to say anything about the show? I went yesterday and had a good time. I finally got to meet Erik in person for the first time. I tried to plant the idea of an AX in his mind, but now that he's free of a corporate overlord he's like a kid in a candy store. He says that he has a ton of ideas to use on the current 1190 platform as well as another platform in development. You can feel the excitement when you listen to him talk. I'd say it was worth going to. |

I went to the show today with my friend Kathryn. I had a great time. I saw Mike Rovnyak just after I got there. Went to the EBR area and saw Mike Kirkpatrick. Checked out the Black Lightning and fell in love. I hope that either the factory or an aftermarket bag manufacturer like Hepco & Becker or Givi comes up with a set of bags for it. Got to see Erik and talk with him for about 90 seconds. (Boy, I'd love to sit down with him and talk over a cup of coffee for a few minutes some day). Sat on a lot of other bikes and looked at a lot of neat stuff. Met Froggy at the Dinosaur and enjoyed a superb meal. Then Kathryn and I drove home. It was a wonderful day. I'd write more, but I've been up since 4:00 AM and my ass is dragging. But it sure was worth it. |

DANG. I worked a busy but profitable shift tonite. When the 1125R was released, they had the HDMC dealer meeting in Nashvegas, at the Opryland Hotel. The more things change, they stay the same... |

Did anybody see the Vanguard? I confess that I forgot all about while I was at the show. I was so centered on the Black Lightning that it never even entered my mind. I had wanted to check the Vanguard out before I left since it looked and sounded interesting, but my attention was pretty much focused on one bike while I was there. Anyhow, did anybody check it out? |

I just noticed the exhaust integrated into the seat pan. That might be a good substitute for birth control. |

I saw that thing, it was in a corner near the vendors not far from EBR. I didn't know what it was, I thought it was just another custom like they had all around the show. It looked heavy and expensive. |

exhaust integrated into the seat pan. I was thinking it actually exits at the bottom, straight back into the rear wheel |

"I was thinking it actually exits at the bottom, straight back into the rear wheel" This is what I see as well. Notice the exhaust does a 90 degree straight down on the front and rear cylinders? |

Yeah, I'm thinking those holes at the rear of the seat are an exit of some kind, but probably the air that comes in through those square ports on either side of the fuel tank. Perhaps some kind of air cooling duct? |

It's interesting, but I doubt any of us will ever own one. "Vanguard is the brand new, premium motorcycle brand". "Premium" = $$$. It looks cool, but a "target" weight of 550 pounds? Apparently the exhaust does come out under the seat: "the exhaust is hidden discreetly in the seat". The engine appears to be based on the S&S X-Wedge:

My Ducati had the exhaust right under the seat, and I hated it. |

Looks cute but one picture really ground my gears other than the ass on the griddle muffler. "the motorcycle is equipped with a powerful minimalist engine" Picture shows the engine with spark plugs. where are the messy wires? |

OK, so I want to know how the exhaust travels up to the seat... (I've been using Sketchup so much, I keep trying to middle click to rotate the image....) |

I think the captions are just wrong. The headers are 90 degree pipe fittings that are going under the engine. The intakes are coming from above like our bikes. That designboom site is some "reader's digest" type of thing. The actual site: http://www.vanguard.nyc/ I think they just took the press photos and specs made up their own captions. Unfortunately, no captions on the original site. |
