Would anybody in the Northeast be interested in Meeting at Big Ws Roadside BBQ in Wingdale, NY for lunch one of these Saturdays or Sundays? I can personally attest to the quality of the ribs there, and Court posted a photo of the Brisket, and it looks really good.
Court discovered this place and shared it with me. Now I want to turn on the rest of BadWeB to a good thing. Plus, it's always a good time when the free range loonies from this asylum get together.
The weather is supposed to be crappy this weekend, so how about next weekend - either the 29 or 30? It's not that far for any of us, really; so waddya think?
Crusty, your playing in my backyard dude but your so right about the looney comment. Wingdale was known for it's home for crazies...ever notice the (old)large institution just down the road? I'll be doing the HHR but maybe early Nov weather permitting.
The end point for the HHR has not been set in stone ( although it's been the same place for years ). Location is not that far apart, maybe there'll be a change this year if the demand is high.
I'm not going to do the HHR. I'd have to leave my house at 5:30 AM to make it on time. At that hour, it's pretty chilly, and I've become a wuss when it comes to being cold. It's just about as far to Big Ws, but if we're going to meet up for lunch, I can leave after the sun is up and temperatures are on the rise.
Now, I don't understand why people don't want to do both. The HHR is a ride around the area; what I'm talking about is just meeting up for Lunch. It's like what we've been doing to the various Dinosaur locations all along. I can sympathize with Jim not wanting to do both since he has to work until the wee hours, but, once again, it's a Lunch meet up, not a 9:00 AM start. And it's a chance to shoot the bull with other folks who are "Different in Every Sense"
I'd say maybe this Sunday, but my brake rotors and pads won't be here until Monday, and the brakes are in rough shape. Or we could put it off a week and do it the 5th or 6th of November. Or, we could just accept that some folks just don't want to do both and have it on the 29th.
When I went there last week, there were only two of us, and we had a good time. I'm just trying to share a new BBQ joint with other Badwebbers and get a chance to see old friends and meet some new friends.
Years ago, I used to ride with a group of friends; but as the years have passed, we all went our separate ways. Now, I find that I prefer to ride alone, but I enjoy meeting with friends over a good (or even a mediocre) meal.
Anyway, in the past, when I would plan a ride, my credo was, "At such a time, I'm going out for a ride. If there are others here to ride with me, that would be great. And if nobody is here, that's great, too. In either event, I'll enjoy myself.
After seeing that Brisket and that Chili, I've decided that on the 29th of October at 12:34 PM, I will be sitting in Big Ws Roadside BBQ in Wingdale, New York. If anyone cares to join me, I'd really enjoy the company. If nobody shows up, I'll enjoy a really good meal.
I have a nice route home planned; It's the route I was going to show Jim (Damnut) on the occasion we went to the Dinosaur in Troy, NY to celebrate my being cancer free. Unfortunately, it freakin' poured rain, and we split up to take the most direct routes to our respective homes.
In any event, remember the name and location of Big Ws. Court has discovered a hidden treasure and the BBQ is quite tasty. So far, I can only attest to the quality of the ribs and the size of the portion. But after next Saturday, I'll be able to add another item to my review. Probably Brisket, but that Chili looks awfully tempting
Dang... methinks it's time to bust open a quart-jar of homemade chili starter REAL soon... been thinking about my next try at smoked brisket to boot. Last time (my first) I smoked brisket it turned out quite tasty, but I overshot the cook time by a little over an hour. Wasn't as tender as I'd liked, BUT- next weekend, we made a KILLER tasty big batch of chili with the shredded brisket!
Likely see you there . . . . If you need help remembering what my new neighborhood looks like . . . these are some shots from the car window Thursday and Friday.
I find it distastefull and with disregard and selfish to promote a ride a day before a major Buell event in the SAME area.It causes conflict.I'm NOT a Shit stirrer but it HAD to be said.I'd LOVE to try and mend fences but it's planned/w total disregard for the planners of HH
I don't see any conflict between meeting for lunch on Saturday and riding the Headless Horseman Run on Sunday.
I'm not promoting any ride. I have nothing to do with the HHR and I'm pretty sure that the organizers have their own route planned with their own lunch destination. It's not on the same day and I'm not detracting in the least from the HHR. I don't see any disrespect for the HHR or its organizers, and none is intended.
As far as attacking poor John; I do it all the time. I'm an expert at it; I know all his deficiencies and his weak areas, and I am his harshest critic.
The bottom line is that I'm going to Wingdale on Saturday October 29 to eat some BBQ If anyone wants to join me, they're more than welcome. If you feel that joining me for lunch is in some way disrespectful or offensive, then, by all means, don't come.
I don't see it as a conflict or selfish or anything like that. For years Hammer always led a ride the day before the HHR, and like they say the more the merrier. Good eats and good company all around regardless who goes to what
I'm trying to stop but....If you're riding long distance and become torn between......good night.I knew this would end this way...I was concerned for the HH organizers
