Always remember..."there is nothing new under the sun"

240 years ago we were under the same assault by our gov't...distant representatives that really did not give a damn on what our thoughts were.

What will we do to change the current course? What are we willing to sacrifice?

This . . . granted . . . is not our shining hour. . . . but . . we're in much better shape than many countries.

Here's the new King of Thailand . . .

And here is the capital city of a once gorgeous country . . .

In our worst hour . . . we are, perhaps, the luckiest people in the world.

That's disgraceful.

I really enjoyed Thailand, and not for the "tourist attractions". Rich culture and history, friendly and honest folk, gorgeous flora and fauna, cheap and great street food, and it's always nice to be in a place that caters to whitey. Yes, there are places in the world that recognize that just because you're white doesn't mean you're subhuman. They like us because, although the average American may be drunk and loud, we're over there contributing to their economy and generally not getting into too much trouble.

The political atmosphere is (was) pretty cool. The king has (had) the ultimate power because 100% of the military is loyal to him. Talk to them and they say, "we are the king's army, we will do what he says". It's impressive how many times martial law has been imposed peacefully. The king could just wipe the map of his political enemies and establish total communist style control, but he lets the democratic processes run their course, and only intervenes when the corruption or direction gets too far out of hand.

If you spoke with them of the way ahead, there was always a feeling of anxiety knowing that the King was near the end of his days. No one I ever talked to had any clear idea of what would come next, and it was a hard subject to bring up, because the average guy just didn't want to think about the king dying.

That makes sense.

I paid for all of it and it was made in CHINA.

I'll give Finland the credit for the mobile phone.

The computer & software? USA.

The exploitation of Chinese peasants? Share that one with the Reds.

You get full credit for paying for it. ( You aren't being paid by Clinton, are you? )

Republicans have been consistently War orientated mofo's.

Really?

Spanish American war. ( Philippines ) McKinley. Republican. ( though most blame W R Hearst )

WW1. Wilson Deomocrat.
WW2. Hoover, Republican, in charge when Japan invaded Manchuria.
Roosevelt, Democrat, in charge when Italy invades Ethiopia. Axis formed. Japan invades China. Germany invades......

I suppose If the Republican had immediately declared war on Japan for invading Manchuria the War in the Pacific wouldn't have happened as it did. He didn't. ( and you'll note America hadn't invaded anyone since the Spanish American War. )

Korean War. Truman. Democrat.
Vietnam War. Kennedy/Johnson. Democrat.

Lebanon. 1958, Islamofascists, 1975, ditto, this week, ditto.

Gulf War. Bush the Elder. Republican.

Bosnia. Clinton. Democrat.

Afghanistan/Iraq. Bush the Younger. Republican.

Libya. Obama. Democrat.
Syria. Obama. Democrat.
Yemen. Obama. Democrat.
Egypt. Obama. Democrat.
Ukraine. Obama. Democrat.

Who else Is Obama bombing? I lost track.

Looks like a statistical trend to me.

And I'd argue that Carter ( Democrat ) was responsible for A LOT with his support for the Ayatollah.

Blame Clinton for Iraq 2 for his actions re: WMD's, pulling the UN inspectors out, and bombing Iraq repeatedly. ( Hillary Clinton, in one of the rare times she isn't lying, explained how Saddam had lots of poison gas. )

I will give Bush the Younger blame for not taking out Iran.

And Bush the Elder for not taking out Saddam. ( at least he had the excuse that he was following UN agreements. The Fool. )

To be fair, it's silly to blame Hoover for Manchuria, or Roosevelt for Ethiopia. Neither encouraged Japan or Italy to invade.

So... Yep, The Spanish American War was indeed the fault of a Republican who followed the Polls & Hearst Newspapers to war.

& Bosnia, ( Monica's War ) was nearly unjustifiable except as a distraction from Bill Clinton getting Lewinskies while ordering the bombing. Democrat.

Interesting that both were "follow the polls to stay popular" jerks.

Anything else you want to be dead wrong on?

Now, Me? I support gun rights for gay married folk to protect their home and marijuana plants. And Fisting. Don't forget that.

Would that be the same UN that left us holding the bag to figure out what to do with Iraq/Saddam? You (that would be the proverbial you) may not agree with the decision to have the second Iraq war, but I have never heard any other strategy for dealing with it that fits with the reality of the situation of the time.

Who else Is Obama bombing? I lost track.

Shouldn't Iraq be on that list? We officially ended the second war in Iraq. Now we seem to be back in there, and oddly, doing a surge of troops. Of course there's very little coverage of this these days. Other than that, I really don't know who we are at war with. We have dropped a lot of bombs in a lot of countries under the current administration though. Pakistan isn't on the list. We dropped a lot of bombs there without their permission. Killed a lot of their civilians too. Who were we at war with? I know the official answer is supposed to be al Qaeda or ISIS, but if a country was at war with Mexico and bombing our border states because we have a lot of illegal Mexicans here, I would see that as an act of war against the US. Am I wrong about that?

Have we always been at war with Eastasia?

Oh, no, Eastasia has always been our friends.; )

Someone told me the other day Obama is bombing 7 countries. I admit I've lost track.

And seriously, I wasn't around for the Spanish American War. According to the first reference I found on McKinley, he was a very populist guy. "Ear close to the ground so he could hear the earliest echoes of public opinion". In modern terms, like Bill Clinton, he was accused of following the polls. If you do the popular thing you stay popular. When William Randolph Hearst allegedly started the Spanish American War by pimping it in his Newspapers, McKinley went along with the popular cry.

See also Bosnia, aka Monica's War.

It's a prime example, along with the Peloponnesian War, of why Democracies are dangerous. A cult of personality leader can get the mob to cry out for a popular war. ( If you don't know about the Peloponnesian War, it was a really bad idea. Even the side that "won" got hammered.)

btw, Best History Book I've Read Lately. "Carnage & Culture" by Victor Davis Hanson. The title alone is worth buying it to have on the shelf.

It's in a way a rebuttal of "Guns, Germs, and Steel", a decent book that states the theory that it was iron deposits, the multiple plagues that swept though on trade routes, that gave Europe the edge to become the dominant Culture in the 18th-20th Centuries. Europeans had guns, and spread disease where ever they went. See the massive depopulation by disease in the wake of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Entire nations wiped out.

Hanson argues that other regions also had minerals, also had exposure to the plagues spread by trade routes, and that it was the Culture of the Citizen Soldier that defeated the Slave Armies of the God Kings. He uses multiple examples from Salamis to Tet.

OTOH, his book "The Peloponnesian War, a War Like No Other" is a bit boring in spots. I found I had to keep 2 bookmarks, one in the text and one in the glossary, to keep up with it. Still, better than most text books, but not the breezy fun read of "Carnage & Culture".

If you don't know how we got here, you don't know how to fix anything. When your "narrative" is based on lies about the past, a Leftist standard, it pushes towards wrong choices, deliberately.

Cataract,
Can you explain your political philosophy?

Mine's easy. I support the right to keep and bear arms by a married gay couple to defend their homes and marijuana plants. ; ) ( Because not ONE of the above is any fracking business of the Government.)

So on the one hand we have Hillary. An acolyte of Alinsky. ( Have YOU read her senior thesis on Alinsky? I have ) A known liar. An admitted felon. I've never heard she groped a woman without permission. Never heard her complain her husband does.

On the other we have Donald. What a piece of work. he may have groped women. He has admitted to bribing Hillary. He was the #1 choice for Republican candidate by the Clinton Campaign. ( because he's a jerk and should have been easy to beat )

I really don't like Donald. I figure he probably wont screw with me very much, being a clever business guy.

Hillary's minions, otoh, have assured us that she will take away the guns from the peasants, that she will make sure that illegal aliens can vote and take your job, and will for certain import another half a million refugees from the wars She and Obama started.

Pretty clear choice to me between crappy and much worse.

Still can't even figure out why you keep losing in elections or in court.

Oh, no. You're wrong. I know exactly why the idiot Republicans lose elections. The politicians make promises, and then when the get elected they break them. "We will stop immigrant amnesty" then they vote to give Obama the money he wants, every single penny, to run his amnesty program. You know what happens to a Republican Congressman who breaks his promises? Republican voters won't vote for him again.

That's why the R's lost Congress the last time. Made grand promises to stop the excessive spending. Didn't do it. Got fired.

So it's simple. The Republican Establishment are jerks. That's one reason Jeb, who was anointed by the Leadership, and had millions to spend from the beginning, had no chance at the job. He was an obvious Establishment Tool.

The D's? They don't seem to care when their pols lie. Funny that.

Now I'm not saying the R's are any less corrupt than the D's on a statistical or individual basis.

I can say specifically, Hillary is as corrupt as they come. She's in good company. I actually doubt she's come close to the Billion dollars in illegal campaign money of her boss.

As to losing in Court? What, specifically, do you mean?

Gay marriage? I'm for it. Confirmation that the second Amendment means what it actually says? Great!

I admit I disagree with about half the Bush & Clinton and Obama Supreme court rulings. I consider that about normal. I'm pretty libertarian.

Cause the govt in some atat so is all about forcing people to serve the celebrations. I'm hoping the SCOTUS will put a stop to that, it who knows.

You'll lose customers. You might be fine with that. Your business may be ruined because... social media & mob mentality. Bullies.

Now, does a cake maker have any right to govt. Protection when his consumer approval rating is driven to the dumps because of a nation wide hissy fit?

I say no. You sink or swim by the choices you make.

I'm also anti death penalty. Why is multi layer. But I feel kiddie rapists should be eliminated from our society. I know it will take centuries to eliminate those genes ( if genetic ) or by reducing positive feedback for evil behavior ( if Skinnerian psychology ) but it seems worth the effort.

Not fond of letting rapists of adults off lightly either.

Otoh people who accuse others falsely, maliciously, should be imprisoned too. Penalty in proportion. Since I'm inclined to hand kiddie rapists to ISIS with "f456 Mohammed" tattooed on their forehead, expect a bit more than six months for false accusations.

Many are predicting nuclear war if Hillary is elected.

A great example of "getting it wrong" is the Iraqi WMD program.

Hillary got it right when her hubby was president and she was excusing his bombing.

Hans Blitz got it right when he initially reported ten thousand tons of poison gas the UN inspectors had counted had been moved.

Colin Powell initially got it right reporting on the poison gas stockpiles that had been moved & Saddam was buying Uranium.

Then the Democrats decided to use the lie that there were no wmds as a political attack.

So there has been very little reporting on the tons of Uranium found in Iraq being shipped to Canada to be salvaged.

Nearly no mention of the dozens of American and Allied soldiers suffering from poison gas exposure when AQ used the unmarked poison gas shells stolen from the conventional shell stockpiles expecting the roadside IED to be a regular bomb. ( the hiding poison gas in with conventional shells was reported by the UN )

Just one mention of the hundreds of American and Allied soldiers suffering from poison gas exposure when they blew up piles of shells releasing the poison gas hidden in them. That was in the New York Times complaining the Pentagon was evil for denying the vets coverage at the VA. ( even the NYT gets it right sometimes )

& zero mention of the incinerator built by the Brits to destroy the many tons of poison gas captured and stockpiled by the allies near Baghdad. Except one report that ISIS was going to capture that stockpile. .... never mentioned again.

So over the years since the 1990's when Bill & Hillary righteousness held high actually told some truth, but only some, about Wmds, to today where poison gas used on civilians in Syria is seldom noticed it's pretty plain that the statement "there were no wmds" is an outright lie. There were. There are. And people here in America, our veterans are dying from them today.

As are the victims of Obama's Wars in the Iraqi & Syrian war zone today.
