I'm seeing some flux core welding wire for stainless steel available from places like Lincoln as well as "generic" brands... Does any of this stuff work in regular old 115 volt flux core only welders? I have a little Hobart 125EZ which is flux only and wondering if I could use it with the correct wire on stainless. Might change what I'm doing on an intake for my mini GP cycle and maybe what I do for an exhaust if it would work. Trying to deal with aluminum "braze" rods and flux and having mixed results. It's kind of working, but I'm not doing it very well which produces ugly results and some porosity. I've burned through the tubing on the intake and filled it back in twice, but I'll never get the correct shape again so I'm starting over. |

according to the almighty web, flux core ss wire still needs a gas shield to weld properly. This was the most informative of what I read after your question peaked my interest as well. http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?22539-Flux-Co re-Stainless-Steel-mig-wire |

For exhaust, I would consider TIG and using shielding gas inside the tube as well. |
