Can anyone tell me the reason originally put out from the factory for not using a large right side scoop? |

Erik said it didn't make a difference in the temperature of the rear cylinder. Apparently, they tested it. |

I asked Erik about it in 2007 and he said that at some speeds it was beneficial, at others it was better without but he couldn't recall the details off the top of his head. He said you'd have to talk to one of the engineers who worked on that. Adding the scoop from American Sport Bike on the Useless really helped shut off the fan while under way. |

I talked to Mr. Hurda this year. He left me with the impression that he still thinks it makes a difference to the tuning. I am kicking myself for not delving deeper into it while I had his ear. He was very generous with his time that day. I felt like we were pulling him away from family time, but his wife wouldn't have it any other way. As far as I know the preprogrammed RACE ECMs for XBs from IDS are using the maps he worked on. I thought I heard someone say the scoop changed the fuel rail temperature. |

Does this help? See Anonymous input couple posts in, not clear whether Anonymous was official. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/224426.html?1157060224 IIRC there was a FUELL article at one time on the subject but I might be mistaken. |

Sounded pretty reliable to me. |

Yep that annony post is reliable. Thanks to newer computer technology, Buell was able to design the larger scoops that came on 2010 models, which help cool the rear cylinder while not creating the fuel rail cooling issues that aftermarket scoops do. |

Adding that second large scoop was one of the best things I did to my XB12 |

I got a Roberto (Pegasus customizing) scoop and now the fan only comes on when stopped and engine off. Had to modify it a bit after fitting the micron but it still works perfectly! |
