All the rest of you Badwebbers in FL, GA, SC and NC, here's a clear prediction from the weather folks so we can decide what to do about the approaching hurricane:

Looks pretty sketchy... all youn's down yonder in the storm path, be safe! My honey was born in the Dominican Republic, which is the other half of Hispaniola, shared with Haiti. I hate that those folks are having to deal AGAIN with such destruction. Prayers up, good mojo out to them. |

Because naming a tropical storm after a woman is sexist. Just because women's emotions are a tempest doesn't mean its ok to imply it in any way. The next problem is naming a storm after a man. Now we're implying that men should be dominant and powerful, and that's demeaning toward women. We'll have to start finding gender neutral names, until folks catch the idea that guys and gals who want to be gender neutral will get offended by naming a destructive storm after them. Next we'll have to start using some other naming convention, like using numbers. Then it will be time for anti-religion zealots to get offended when numbers that have been associated with religions come up, like 7 or 13 or 144,000. Lastly we'll resort to call in them racial slurs against white males, because as we all know, it's impossible for anyone to be racist against white males, who are the most evil low lifes of all time and deserve to be prejudiced against. |

Not sure if you are serious (probably not), they alternate between male and female names each year. They might have to use non gender specific names soon like Pat, Terry, and Alex |

They used to identify storms with month/date. I have had 4 go "eye over" over the years. Donna and Charlie tore up so much infrastructure it took weeks to get back to stable. Donna flooded everything so bad, the N/S central corridor Hwy 27 was 8 feet under water in a 5 mile stretch. Army Corps of Engineers made a bypass route in 4 days to get supplies going again. Hwy 60 was similarly flooded. We ate cheese, WWII rations, and canned water the Nat'l guard brought after Donna. Of the 50 or so houses and mobile homes in our community, The only one that survived was the house next door to ours, where most of the community weathered the storm overnight. I'll never forget the perfect stillness and bright starlight while the eye was over us, then like a switch, it was back on. |

Moms in st augustine (near jax). Says they're calling for 100mph winds there. Storm shutters are up, flying things stowed in the garage, headed to the neighbors for company. She grew up in Miami so this is all a big "meh" for her lol. Best to anyone in the path. Stay safe and don't be stupid. Plenty of other folks to fill the "stupid" column!! |

I only had one "eye over" it was BOB. Bob messed up my system of trails in the woods and killed power for a while in Douglas, Ma It was surreal. My poor dumb cat was hiding under our oldsmobile. The rain stopped and I went out there to try to entice him into coming inside. I looked up and saw clear blue sky. It didn't last long and I wasn't able to get my cat out. Why get into a wood box when you can hide under two tons of Detroit's "finest"? |

Well they could be named after the 'Muppets', Seseme Street, or Warner Brothers, Disney or other cartoon characters. But then that could terrify children and of course it would lead into the whole 'Marvel' or 'DC comics' character field. But then that could be funny. Who wouldn't like a big bad ass storm named 'Hulk' or 'Superman'? ~ Being interviewed on the news; "Our entire neighborhood was completely destroyed by Batman as he hit town being chased in by the Joker who brought massive flooding a day later!". They could name them a little later into it's formation to see how it will affect people.....you wouldn't want 'Bugs Bunny' or 'Daffy Duck' to have killed thousands and inflict billions in damages. My 17 years in the Tampa area got interesting at times. I too was in the eye of one. It was a small but mean tornado spawning hurricane that was fizzling as it came over. That is a very surreal feeling. I recall looking over the debris and small limbs and stuff in our street. I took a lawn chair out into the front yard waiting for the other half of the storm to hit. Took about ten minutes. The wife stuck her head out the door and asked if I was going to start picking stuff up. "nope no need", when I came back out in the morning to a whole different set of limbs and trash. My best to all who are in the path of the storm. Hope Darwin doesn't go into overtime. |

Landlord (retired equipment rental guy) used his pull, and scored a 30kw diesel genset for his property. I installed an new GreenSpeed Carrier system in his house, and an Infinity Carrier mini split in my studio. Plenty of "juice" to run the ac's , lights, and refrigerators. Predicting strong tropical force winds 40-60 mph for tonight thru Friday, possibly into Saturday. Our biggest worry and most problematic are the trees that can take out the power lines. At least there will be plenty of firewood this season. The company I work for will go to all hands on call, special operating hours. We work safe. If it's blowing and howling, flooded, wires down, it is going to wait till it's safe. Most HVAC issues will be from loss of power or flooding anyway. |

I saw advice on another forum, it recommended those in the Hurricanes path (and honestly everyone in general) to take detailed pictures of their homes both inside and out, including things like serial numbers and such for expensive electronics, so should the worst happen you have more evidence for the insurance of what you lost. |

Genset up and tested. Food, water, meds stocked up Time to hunker down. I hope the hordes of people on the roads find shelter. Going to take a long time to recover on the east coast. millions expected to be without power for possibly weeks. |

Jacksonville here. Seven miles from the beach and West of the Intracoastal. The fun should be in high gear 24 hours from now. We've stayed. Drawn down the pool and stocked up to wait it out. Both bikes are in the garage. We're not expecting anything too dramatic. High winds and rain is all. Chris C |
