@ Steveford - That Firebird is beautiful : )

My guitars are not getting anywhere near enough attention... Keep this thread going and it'll kick me to pick them up more often : )

My rig after playing strictly acoustic on my Taylor 210ce. Rocking Gary Clark Jr for days!

Epiphone Les Paul Custom II that my friend gave me for building him a nice speaker cab. The Vox AC30C2 I'm borrowing until I build something of my own. Now I need some pedals! I get some great tones just cranking the preamp, but I'm wanting more.

What do you guys suggest? I'd like to just start with a nice wah and overdrive, but I'm new to this world.

My son just acquired the rootbeer-colored 7-string on the right.

Left to right, his PRS (he's had this one a few years), an almost-new Kiesel headless 7-string, and his "new" Music Man "Ball Family Reserve" John Petrucci 7-string.

Jeepin, look at the Electro Harmonix Soul Food for your over drive. It's loosely based on the Klon Centaur which is a very expensive, hard to find and often copied over drive pedal. It's a transparent overdrive, so it doesn't change the tone of your rig it just pushes the tubes harder. When I had my all tube Orange OR-15 all tube amp It was like turning up the gain knob on the amp when you hit the pedal. It's almost like adding another channel to the amp for less than $80.

There are a lot of videos on youtube reviewing and comparing the Soul Food.

Thanks Ben! I'm checking it out now—the price sure is right especially if lifted its circuitry/approach from a higher-end unit.

Steve, very nice Firebird. they had long been my favorite guitars, but I sold mine a few months ago after agreeing to limit myself to 10 guitars and seeing a unique Gibson Supra i wanted. I really liked the neck, however, for me the body shape was not as comfortable as my guitars. Yours is pretty guitar mine was a "natural relic" finish.

Jeepin, my recommendation for an overdrive is the Boss OD-3. few guitarist seem to consider these and go with the more common Boss Super Overdrive SD-1. I have both, along with some rare and more expensive drives and distortions but I have yet to hear anything I like as much (the Fulltone OCD is similar in sound and responsiveness).

Sooooo many choices with overdrive pedals!

For pedals I'm a fan of Electro Harmonix, but then I'm a fuzz pedal fan so that could be why : D Their website does have good videos of their pedals though.

Another good site for checking out pedals is ProGuitarShopDemos on youtube.

Thank you for the compliments on the Firebird - Gibson did a really good job on this one. Somewhere around 2013 they put on lower frets so it's much easier to play than the 07s that I owned previously.
I still want to pick up another 2006 Firebird VII but I guess that depends on how long my pick up truck holds together! The pile of crap is held together by rust and now the rust is deserting the old pile.

Yea, silly me. It's only a 6 string. I thought he had told me it was a 7 and didn't pay much attention when I posted the pic.

He actually already traded it for cash and an interesting Australian built fanned fret 7-string. It's an Ormsby SX-GTR 1138.

Aussie

Rkc00,
Still got that white Firebird, I see.
I have to say those are my favorite solid body guitars.

Back in 1981, I saw Johnny Winter at a club in Boston. We were seated at a table not ten feet away from him while he was playing. It was an amazing show.

Crusty- they recently had a big auction in NYC of most of Johnny's stuff his wife had kept. I think there were 3 different colored Firebirds included. ALL of them had neck repairs where the headstocks had been broken off at some point. Firebirds were supposedly very easy to break if you dropped them due to headstock arrangement: 6 in line tuners like a Fender, but they used "banjo" style tuners which stick straight out the back, plus the headstock is angled back like most Gibsons instead of "flat" like a Fender. I guess if you dropped it and it fell on the back all the weight came down on the low E string tuner at the far end of the headstock and "CRACK".

My friend Ernie has a Rickenbacker 12 string that he bought back in 1968 or 69. The paint is identical. They're still made in the U.S.A., too.

Just lovely!
