From a while back.....in my day of 33's.....

I will see your mud pit. I will call your by-pass. I will raise you a mud pit with a Jeep trap by-pass.

Top picture on the left is a mud pit like that one that Doug was stuck in. No one could get through it. 36's were the biggest tires that day. So after several guys tried it I decided by-pass was the way to go.

Red Jeep is mine on untested by-pass in first picture. Note extreme tilt to left. Immediate 3 feet drop on one side. All hidden by water. In second pic after I got through, note green Jeep in extreme tilt to right, stuck against tree. That was a switch over immediate 3 feet drop on the right. Yea, I came through there. It was violent!

There were six of us on that trail in Royal Blue that day. I was the only one to make it through this hole. Then I spent a couple of hours pulling everyone else out on their second and third attempts.

Vern, there's a reason I appreciate riding witcha!

I know nothing about Jeepin', but I'll ride shotgun if need be. As long as I don't die drowning in mud.

Somehow, I doubt that would happen.

I picked up a 4" lift last night... and really, who could not use an extra 4 inches?

Up next, SYE and a new rear driveshaft.

Yep, back in Ashland.

What day? I was there Sat night, Sunday and Monday wrapping up projects. We still have a few minor things to wrap up, then get my tools out.

What are those super bright ones? Got a customer wanting a set in the shop now. I have not played with the newest generation lights. What do you recommend?

Here is a link to the 4 1/2 fog lights

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E69KPFU/ref=o h_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and a link to the 7" headlights

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015SL0MSK/ref=o h_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the 7" work for a H4 and have a adapter for a H13
Super easy install and pretty cost effective

+1- my sweetie's Toyota Solara has crap for headlights/running lights, needs a fix in a BAD way. Dunno about the super-Heep lights, but I'd like something that's model-appropriate...

Interesting . . . I am in the market for a new car now and headlights are one of the "deal breakers" for me.

The car I presently drive has headlights that are incredible.

I am amazed at how little attention some manufacturers devote to lighting.

I'll have to get a photo to post tonight.

My '14 grand Cherokee is an awesome vehicle. Love every aspect of it...except the crappy factory HID projector lights.

I'm old school. When I turn on the high beams I want things to get BRIGHTER, not just have a shutter open up so the same 35w hits a wider patch of road.

I don't like hard top-shutter cuts. Looking out my windshield I have light on the bottom of my field of view...then a hard cut-line...then pitch black. Nothing. Nada. No bleed, no glow, no shadows...zip. Black hole.

So...I added an LED bar. It was tough, this is a NICE Jeep, it's not a rally truck or a Baja-buster, it's my all-wheel-drive luxury car. So I wanted subtle. Ended up finding a 12" single-row LED light bar that spits out 6000 lumens. Mounted it to the bottom of my license plate bracket (12" is the width of a license plate) and wired the relay to turn on when I hit the high beams.

Problem solved.

The HIDs look sexy from the outside - which unfortunately is the designers focus these days, I think - but for actually putting light downrange...they blow.

But $50 and 6000 lumens has that fixed now : )

Replaced a blown factory fog/running light in the bottom of the air dam/bumper on our '99 Solara... all that gave me was symmetry, not really any extra light.

Not looking forward to running down I75 to Tampa with these sucky lights...

Got to looking at the front end of this car. I could either (a) just mount an LED light bar or something behind the grill, easy but rednecky... or (b) see about cutting into the grill and flush mounting a pair of lights, try to make it look good, or (c) see if anyone has aftermarket lights to replace entirely the xtracrappy, stock, glazed over plastic lights that I HAAATE.

Watching this thread for clues, ideas.

My Jeep's hitch is rotted out and the bumper is funky, plus there's a tow bar up front, so I picked up these bumpers. The added benefit would be so Mark can drag me out if needed.

I'm running these in the Cougar. They're a bit brighter than stock, especially after I reconditioned the headlights.http://www.ebay.com/itm/25W-9007-Hi-Lo-3000LM-Super-Brigh-Cree-Car-LED-Headlight-Kit-Bulbs-Xenon-White-/282090859413?hash=item41adeceb95%3Ag%3Aq2IAAOSwQNRXMCei&vxp=mtr

I was having a hard time finding the LED until the second pic! Great work!

I'm waiting until those bumpers show up, I'll get an LED light bar to go between the grille guard vertical posts and probably a small backup light in the rear bumper.

Mixed cycle (mountain commute to work, 17 miles each way) I average 27. I think that's 26.4 showing in the photos. Highway I've done 32 round trip, MD to FL. All hand calculated. And actually the EVIC is usually within 0.4 of actual - pretty decent software : )

Rust belt problems...

Both frame rails are showing a ton of rot, so its time for more money to leave my wallet.
I dropped it off at "Nelson Frame and Axle".
The have been in business since 1961 and have a great reputation.
They are going to repair both sides of the frame including replacing both control arm mounts.

...and while its there... I think this would be a good time to outboard the rear shocks
why not, right?

What this trick does, it allows you to run longer shocks, giving you more flex.

Also, if replacing the mounts, why not go long arm for more flex?
