Never mind that Newton didn't invent gravity, or the idea that before it was "invented", we could fly. No, I didn't author it, but I posted it because it seemed clear to me at least, that it was poking fun at the absurdity of things found on the internet. Had I authored it, I might have claimed someone like Galileo invented gravity. Perhaps that slight bit of accuracy threw you.
I wondered about that yesterday when after hearing the news story.
It really does shine a light on how convoluted some of our values have become.
America is a country that was founded, largely, on the principle of Free Speech and an assortment of related freedoms, all celebrating individual liberty.
There was a time that I could exercise my rights . . my rights to say and do any legal thing . . . while being cognizant of the fact that those were shared rights and that mine did not extend to the point where they interfered with others, similarly exercising their liberty.
Even is I saw something I didn't agree with, my disagreement was . . . .well, my opinion. I had the choice to say what I thought and express my views but I never had any need to pass regulations, laws, executive actions or limit in anyway someone else's exercise of their freedoms simply because they were incongruous with my own.
Over the past several years . . . and these are the "peace loving" folks who, unprovoked, beat the crap out of folks simply for holding signs that offended them. For goodness sake, I grew up 8 blocks from the Phelps family. I knew any nut could paint a sign and stand on a corner.
I'm not sure why the Kardashians and some of these light-brained athletes are viewed as our moral and behavioral compasses. I, frankly, don't want to be them or be like them.
We need to alter our course to allow folks to celebrate freedom rather than anoint themselves self-appointed "belief police."
It's just Alinsky rule #s (I forget which) to never allow the opposition to frame the argument, and to isolate and attack the person to marginalize them. It's how the leftist machine works, deny reality, and avoid engaging opposing ideas in favor of attacking people, the natural, inevitable progression of which leads to murder; see Dallas and Baton Rouge.
I had an old friend here in Kilgore fall into the Alinsky mode with me just yesterday. In cordial discussion concerning the failings of Obamacare and the proper role of the federal govt he announced that "I don't need a lecture from you", then offered up misleading statistics about mortality rates in America versus other developed nations, as if the greater Proportion of people in America choosing unhealthy lifestyles is somehow a reflection upon the quality of our medical system, the honest measure of which is survival rates, where we trounce countries like Britain and Canada.
A good friend of mine is a history buff and a great debater. We were at a brewpub and he started talking to some libtard. This guy was full of crap but my friend just kept hitting him with history and facts to the point where he started calling my friend names. My friend just says, "I win!". The guy looks at him and ask him what he means. My friend just smiles and tells him that he's just like every other liberal. When you run out of facts and you're losing the debate you start name calling! You're calling me names so you're out of facts and you lose the debate. He got up and walked away. The table next to the bar started clapping. They finally asked him how he could put up with that for 45 minutes! My friend just smiled and admitted he just loves to drive liberals crazy. Since the facts are on my side, I never lose a debate!
