You can read the error codes by shorting two pins. Lemme find the copy/paste list....

Here is the shorting routine for all fuel injected bikes:
http://www.bcrider.com/DDFI.html

Here is the list of 2008 and up codes:
11 Throttle Position Sensor
13 Oxygen Sensor
14 Engine Temperature Sensor
15 Intake Air Temperature Sensor
16 Battery Voltage
21 Interactive Muffler Control (XB12 only)
23 Front Fuel Injector
24 Front Ignition Coil
25 Rear Ignition Coil
32 Rear Fuel Injector
33 Fuel Pump
35 Tachometer
36 Cooling Fan
52,53,54,55 ECM failure
56 Cam Sync Failure

I can help you. I'm in Lebanon, up by Kings Island, if that's not too far to go to get a scan. I have both the wired and wireless dongles (hey, they were cheap!).

I haven't booted up my setup with my new to me 08 XT yet, so let me charge everything up tonight and make sure the old laptop and the old andriod tablet are all still on speaking terms with the dongles and that they will talk. The setup worked great with an 05 XB9SX and an 07 Uly.

That being said, it is pretty easy to just pull a code with just a piece of wire and an eyeball. You can't test things by exercising them, or get at the deep data like temps and AFV settings, but you can get the trouble codes pretty easily.

Only the new version of ECMspy works on the 08 and up machines.

ECMDroid works on the newer stuff.
I've reset codes on my 09Uly, not much else tho.
