Canada and the USA share similar culture and technically, Canada is in America I'd love to see a BRP / CanAm branded EBR adventure bike "1190AX". Their pockets are also deep enough to fund some national / sbk level racing. I know this has been floated before, but it's the perfect time. Synergies like engine technical specs, in place dealer network, and access to the popular adventure segment make it viable IMO. Furthermore, the platform is already developed. Slap some new forks, tires, subframe, saddle bags, low pegs, the ABS off of the barracuda, and windscreen on the SX and you're done. http://montrealgazette.com/business/bombardier-rec reational-products-to-break-into-motorcycle-busine ss (Message edited by clarkjw on August 27, 2016) |

Wisconsin isn't in Canada . . .but BRP is in Wisconsin. I think . . . . though, in all candor, I've been away from the topic a couple years . . that the plant is now empty and was available. This was during early informal discussion. Things may have changed. BRP is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and has certainly had their own challenges. This, along with the composition of the board, will doubtless impact the way they look at market expansion. One one had . . . motorcycles may appear to compliment existing operations . . . the "synergy" that was discussed. On the other hand . . . they have nearly a monopsony in a market and may have concerns about jumping into a new market segment with very strong leaders such as Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. I think there could be a strong case made for an EBR allegiance of some sort. The board is interesting . . . . most of you will recognize some of the names.
quote:BRP's Board of Directors is comprised of 13 directors, four of whom are independent. Pursuant to National Instrument 52-110 – Audit Committees, as amended from time to time (“NI 52-110”), an independent director is one who is free from any direct or indirect relationship which could, in the view of the Board of Directors, be reasonably expected to interfere with a director’s exercise of independent judgment. Mr. Boisjoli is not independent under these standards as he is part of the Company’s management. Ms. Hao, Mr. Bekenstein, Mr. Nomicos and Mr. Robbins will not be considered independent as they are part of the management of Bain Capital Partners, LLC, which may for certain purposes be deemed to control Bain Capital, a Principal Shareholder. Messrs. Beaudoin, Bombardier and Laporte will not be considered independent as they are part of the management of Beaudier Group, a Principal Shareholder. Mr. Houle will not be considered independent as he is part of the management of CDPQ, a Principal Shareholder. Although in the view of the Board of Directors, such directors are not independent for the purposes of NI 52-110, 12 of the 13 directors are independent from the Company’s management.

There also is/was operations of some sort in Beloit, WI. A couple years ago when I was home at Christmas, my parents and I drove by it and I was a little surprised to see it - and the fact that it is/was a fairly large facility. I want to say we went by last Christmas and it was still up and running... 1313 |

I noticed last month that BRP has a facility in Spruce Pine, NC, just a few miles from the site of the "Buells in the Alps" yearly meet: http://www.brp.com/en-us/company/brp-global-presen ce/facilitites/spruce-pine-north-carolina-usa |
