A spot of rain passing through...

Mike, did you know Joe came up here on his new Triumph?

Sure, you got lost. How long after that did it take you to turn around? Looks like a joy ride to me.

BTW, It's the Miata weekend at the Gap. They will be all throughout the area, including the BRP out your way. I may like my Miata a whole bunch, but still don't enjoy mixing it up with them on my bike. Be aware & stay safe. I know if you can do that, you'll have fun. Think of me when you crack a beer tonight!

I was riding along with a group of tricked out Miatas. Stopped and talked a while, they said there would be upwards of 400 cars this weekend.

Yeah, it was a happy accident.

I think we had 10 Buells, one EBR, one Kawasaki with a Buell fly screen, a Triumph and a couple of Suzukis. We also had at least 2 Badwebbers driving cars for the weekend. Not a bad turnout.

"Mike, did you know Joe came up here on his new Triumph?"

No,he didn't tell me he was going.I was in South GA and didn't know when I would be back but made it to TWO today and tried both his numbers with no luck, that explains it.

Buells in the Alps 6 has pretty much wound down for this year. We had a decent turnout, mostly good weather, and no breakdowns or crashes as far as I know. Here are a few more pics:

Sign at the overlook. We heard very few trains on the old Clinchfield RR (now CSX) which runs within earshot of the hotel this week. Traffic has greatly fallen off due to reduced use of coal.

Doug and I rolled out about 7:30 this morning hoping to be home some what early.
We filled the DR's 6.6 gal. tanks to the brim last night so we could save a little time in the morning.
We rode a blistering pace toward Ohio. We stayed in the saddle until my bike hit reserve just over 250 miles after we left.
We were on track to be home by 3. That was until I looked into my mirrors to see Doug was no longer there. I pulled off and waited. No Doug. I turned around and started heading back and sure enough I found him. He was standing on the side of the road with no gear on looking at his bike. This was not what I was hoping to find but better than him in the ditch with the bike in a wad. He had a flat front tire. BUMMER!! We limped it to the gas station and pumped it up hoping to leap frog from gas station to gas station. No such luck. I was less than 90 miles from home... I dropped the hammer and headed home to get my truck. I walk in and my wife was very happy to see me. When I told I had some bummer news... she got all freaked. I had to repeat BUMMER not bad. I told her what happened and what I had to do. She was not a happy camper to say the least. I put my ramp and tie down straps in the truck, then headed back to pick up the Dougster. Now he couldn't live anywhere near me. HELL NO!! That would be to easy. I live south and west of Columbus and he lives north and east. Between the state fair going on and construction, I ended up getting home about 5 hours latter than I should have... for the second time.

But all is well!
We had a great time and hope to be able to make it back again.

Thanks Hugh for getting us all together.

A can of Fix a flat can sometimes work wonders. I had a front tire go flat on my old BMW on a trip once, and a can of FAF not only stopped the leak, it held up for another 500 miles.

The bike laughed at us.

Sorry to hear about that kink in your speed run Mark. Good to see you and finally meet doug!

OK Hugh! Thanks again Matthew! At my age it is becoming easier to get confused about something you have done several times in the past especially when you have missed those important afternoon naps three days in a row!
Had a good visit everyone! Thanks again!

DANG I hate to miss you nuts. Had a good weekend of work, got tomorrow off, BBQ grilled porkchops, Brussels sprouts, mashers, and veggies for dindin. Already got carrot cake scraps for dessert...

Did Mike (IIRC the proprietor) cook dinner last nite? THAT'S why Vern showed.

Food is good, riding is good/better/leads to good food...

I had a great time this weekend, met some new people and re-met a few old ones.

I think I did more eating than riding, but what the heck... food was good, as was the company.

Snapped this on the way home yesterday, had fun sitting in bumper to bumper traffic from the Georgia line all the way to my exit... 100 degrees the whole way, bike running at 218 degrees with the radiator fan blowing the whole time. Brutal. This is the hottest it's been in Georgia since I moved here over 6 years ago.

I prayed for any amount of rain during my ride home, just to cool off, but I got nothing. I think I lost 5 pounds along the way.

Brad,

Mike cooked dinner both nights, and I was happy not to go out for dinner anywhere else.

I found out that you and Vern could have a snoring competition, wherein no competitors in your class could possibly be found. It's ok... I drank enough bourbon to compensate.

Thanks, Hugh for putting this together. It was a pleasure meeting you and your Wife. Very small world. The rider on the KTM, John, used to work at Bell helicopters with my Cousin, who I had visited on the way down to BITA!
Rode the "Dragon" on the way to the Knoxville airport. Amazing scenery and roads.

Have to say everyone that rode were very safe and courteous riders.

We're finally home after a ~7 hour drive from Spruce Pine. 1 hour of that was extended lunch break with one of us taking turns eating while the other kept the 2 dogs at bay, while another ~hour was added due to a traffic CF for pavement repairs on I-26 ~20 miles north of Columbia, SC.

Here are the last of my pics-

Thanks to all who came out. Brad, Tom, & others who normally come- I hope you can make it next year- it wasn't the same without you!
