Trying to do some pre-planning here and hoping someone knows the route. Going to another training class in Antioch, this time with a coworker that wants to ride down. He's never been able to go anywhere because they always send you here with no transportation and taxi's add up fast. Since the last class gets out at noon on a Wed, he wants to take a little diversion before heading home. So I think, well, okay, I have a little time left and could take Friday off. What's he want to do? Take a tour of the JD facilities then head over to the Dragon. Of course the Dragon's on my bucket list so that's hard to resist. Now I'm trying to get an idea what this may involve. I'm guessing you take 24 into Chattanooga then find your way to the proper roads into NC. I know there will have to be an overnight somewhere on the way. Does anyone know how much time it would take to get there, wherever the closest point is. I was kind of hoping we could get there the following day, make a few runs then head north. Is this too ambitious?

Forecast calls for increasing chance for rain, going forward. From Antioch to Lynchburgh, then to the Dragon, same day won't happen.

Post up a better itinerary schedule, I can halp.

Straight lines, I40E to TN321 exit, to/through Maryville TN, to Foothills Pky, then 129S... after tabcat bridge, no longer seeing the lake on your right, you're on the Dragon.

This is still ahead of the ride, I'm just being sure it can be done. We're leaving for TN on Saturday September 10th. Class is Monday morning to Wednesday noon. This will be when our little diversion starts. Since this brings us a little further south then sideways from the start of the trip I'd like to see how the time works out. My coworker is young and single so he doesn't' care. Me, I'm married with other obligations so I'd like to stay a little more on top of things. Guess I'll explore some routes, thanks.

Wow, Griff- that's some planning ahead there, man! So, from Wednesday noon through Friday- apparently you'll be pointed home going into Saturday...

As things develop, keep me in the loop. September seems a long ways away, but, dangit if August is almost here!

I will say this: Do the best you can to study all the secondaries between Antioch and Maryville/Walland... LOTS of great roads, and unless you're really trying to make time and need the slab, that's the fun stuff. There are 3 (!) TN70's, FWIW. ; )
