That board picture is funny! It takes all kinds I suppose, and I've had my share of sketchy solutions in a pinch.

The vaccine debate has a lot of misinformation also. Though the number and quantity of stuff they want to pump into a baby all at once these days is pretty alarming.

With our kids, we did the stuff needed, but spread it out over a few extra years. And the assertions by the "safe" crowd have a lot of poor science also. These vaccines are genetically engineered organisms that permanently alter your immune system. Of *course* they have risk. It's just a lower net risk than the alternative of not being vaccinated, particularly when looked at across a population. I wish we could just be honest about the whole thing and accept that "good" is better than nothing, and that "perfect" doesn't exist.

It's another depressing "neither side is being honest and transparent" disaster like global warming. Everyone pees in the pool, and the truth is hard to find, and everyone is just attacking each other instead of trying to reach the best truth and accepting the inherit contradictions.

Reep,

"genetically engineered organisms that permanently alter your immune system"

Sort of. They provoke a reaction by your immune system. This is a natural reaction to a foreign body. The organism itself does not alter your immune system.

The anti-vaxers are opposed to the Mercury preservative because they don't understand chemistry. It's just fear and ignorance.

Agreed. It's just doing it all at once that concerned me. Look at how many different things are combined in each shot these days. Seems safer to me (with my poor biology and epidimology knowledge) to spread it out over a few years. Lets just provoke one immune response at a time.

Not because the foreign body itself is dangerous, it's not. I worry about a haywire auto-immune response, which will happen in X percent of people (a small percent, but go tell somebody with Lupus or dermatomyositis it's no big deal).

I'm not saying vaccinations cause Lupus or Dermatomyositis. I'm just saying that in some percent of people some percent of the time, the autoimmune response to a pathogen goes really badly.

When I went to boot camp in 1976 we got around 30 shots over 3 days.
Everything from DPT to an experimental swine flu vaccine to a vaccine for bubonic plague.

Some of us got pretty sick, nobody died.

No genetically engineered anything in vaccines.

You have some old school vaccines that use dead virus. Your immune system responds to the protein coat and the "key" part where it latches on the cell wall, but the RNA inside has been irradiated away. No live virus.

But the bulk of modern vaccine is grown protein from crystals in a purely chemical plant operation. No virus nearby, just the chemical shapes to stimulate your immune system.

Is it a grand idea to lump them all together?

That's a good question, and the answer might be yes, from a public health view. Might be maybe not from a medical view. If you don't get these diseases immunized for in the population you get plagues. people die.

So you have to answer the question, "Will this child get all his vaccinations?" and "How?" If the answer in the cultural context and area is "probably not" and "only when they get free shots at school" then YES, you give them all at once.

Trivia: The brilliant Wallace Shawn, who played Vizzini, was convinced he was going to get fired & had no time for preparation. Pretty much dropped right into the middle of the movie production, He NAILED the most complex dialog scene in the movie his first scene on his first day on the job.

( Westley & Inigo had been practicing fencing for months trained by 2 Olympic fencers one of whom had trained Errol Flynn )

A lot of bullshit being thrown around about people who object to vaccinations without really knowing what they are talking about.

Not everyone's body is the same. People react differently to different things. This is magnified on a child whose body, including the brain, nervous system, and on and on, are not completely developed. Extreme reactions to the foreign bodies can have devastating effects.

Every year children die from adverse reactions to vaccinations. You don't hear about it because the Government and the media don't want you to hear about it. There is a whole court set up by Congress to pay parents basically hush money if their kid is hurt by a vaccine. It also makes the pharmaceutical company free from lawsuits. For them, a 1% adverse reaction rate is ok. For you, a parent of a child that dies or is permanently disabled from a adverse reaction, it is not ok.

Most people that object to vaccinations don't object to the concept. They object to the one size fits all approach and not allowing parents to spread out the vaccines or chosen different schedules.

Did you know that you used to be able to get the MMR vaccine in three shots instead of one. Now that isn't possible because the Pharmaceutical company doesn't make them seperately.

Remember, there is HUGE money in vaccines for pharmaceutical companies and they will do anything to protect that cash cow.

I'd expect people on this board at least to not take everything you here from the MSM at face value.
