OK; Mark, you've got mail.

Court, I'll have my brother look at the U-Haul locations in the AM and point out which is closest. (He's gone to bed, now)

This is crazy; but it sure makes for one hell of an Adventure.

Cool . . . .I'll wait to hear from Jon and one of us East Coasters will take the Crusty Baton hand-off where ever Jon wants.

Crusty . . pick a u-haul joint that has a small trailer available (they list every available for 1-way rental online) and let us know if Friday works . . .

Don't ya just love the feeling of a movement about to happen ?

I'm thinking a handoff somewhere on I84 between Scranton and Port Jervis. I'd host crusty here Fri night and be on 84 sometime sat morning. The start of 84 east of Scranton is about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs for me. Got to love a plan coming together! I think the small u-haul bike trailer is the way to go, not loading and unloading at each transfer, just unhook and go

So is lunch at the Harlem or CT Dinosaur on Saturday? Which location is best for the relay?

Oh and let us know what size ball is needed for the trailer you end up getting.

I'd suggest Stamford . . .unless you are crazy wild about paying the $33 to pull a trailer across the GWB . . . before you learn you can't park it in Harlem.

Boxes that need checked today.

1) Crusty - let me know the name of the U-Haul that's most convenient and that has a 1-way trailer available.

2) Mark - Coordinate with Crusty on date/time and then let the PA crew know so they can take the hand-off.

Court, the nearest U-Haul dealer opens in an hour from now; I'll call them and report back ASAP.

Mark, I'll call you right after I get a trailer lined up.

A Crusty Relay

There’s a scene in the Movie Duck Soup where Groucho Marx is calling for help as his country is losing a war. A distant reply, “Help is on the way!” follows accompanied by assorted scenes of all kinds of people and animals in large amounts racing forward. I feel like Groucho this morning.

After yesterday’s Snippet, The people on Badweb (Badweatherbikers.com) started organizing a rescue for me. I stated that I had a very tentative plan that would probably change. It sure did. A number of people on Badweb are going to relay me and the dead Roadster back to Hudson. I need to line up a U-haul trailer for the bike, and various people will relay me and the bike for a distance, then hand us off to the next driver. Hell; they’re even talking of stuffing me with BBQ along the way!

This is a totally unexpected development. Maybe I shouldn’t be too surprised as doing exceptional things is not unheard of in the Buell (and EBR) community, but it just renews my determination to get an EBR in the not too distant future. This is the type of mutual help that I’ve seen and tried to pay forward ever since I bought my S3-T in 1998. I feel that I’ve been on the receiving end a lot more than on the giving end, but it’s the spirit that I’ve always tried to keep and sustain. I still remember hearing, “You’ll be at Homecoming, even if I have to come out to Massachusetts and bring you here myself!” I don’t know if that attitude is quite the ideal business model for making money, but it sure earns loyalty.

In another hour or so, the U-Haul dealer opens, and I have to call and reserve a trailer for tomorrow. Then I’ll call the first of the Relay drivers and get the details sorted.

Wow. That’s all I can say.

I am watching with baited breath... this is awesome.

I have come to expect nothing less from the BadWeB community. It's why I stay here and all other moto-message boards fall by the wayside.

I am wondering if U-Haul will give you grief (or even refuse to rent the trailer) if you tell them about the relay?

Go relay team!

Hey Crusty thanks for giving Greg my number. It seems he never received my email with that and the address. He may have thought I was bailing on him!

Anyhow I found that if you leave the gate open anybody can show up!

Mark . . . call the next leg and let's get your "meet" in it's preliminary stage.

Just rough . . . kinda where you wanna meet and range of times.

We'll dial in details once you've a Tramp in tow . . . .

There should be no issue about the relay... Crusty is renting the trailer, Crusty will oversee the usage of the trailer at all points. The vehicle pulling the trailer is always the renter's responsibility so if Crusty is happy with the vehicle and driver, then everything should be fine with this relay.

That's how I would treat the entire deal. But it might be best if Crusty signs to pick it up (if possible).

Also everyone involved should make sure they have the correct wiring adapters on hand to fit the Uhaul trailer.

I've been on this board for over 6 years.

This definitely IS the coolest thing a Badwebber can hope for/be involved in.

Makes me proud to be a member of BadWeb

I have both a round and 4-flat, 1 7/8 and 2" ball as well so I should be covered.

So is Froggy going from Scranton to Stamford or is that Court?

I should be there before 9 AM depending on traffic.

Jon Polay, Let me know if there is a fast food place we can meet in Bedford PA.
Once I get the address, I will let you know when we should be there according to my GPS after we get on the road.

We're in motion . . .

Jon Polay - As your intel firms, let us know roughly the when and where you want to discharge the Crusty one . . . Those of us to the East will have someone there to meet and feed the two of you.

Between our various resources here to the East . .We're flexible enough out here to handle about any day and time.

Mark's got the flag.

Let us know when he hands it to you and when and where you want us.

Sweet.

I can pick-up the leg in Scranton tomorrow. I've got a 0900 briefing with the helicopter crew . . should be done by 1000 . . looks like about 90 minutes to Scranton.

I'll assume Tramp Watch Leg 003 and start pointing myself toward Danbury to the East.

Do we have a Danbury pickup?

I'm flexible.

Let me know the weight of the enclosed trailer. I can haul about 2500# easily but have hauled 3500#.

Danbury or Stamford?

Also are we doing all this tomorrow or are we breaking this up into two days? Doesn't matter to me either way.
