I noticed the same thing with shower heads. Now that we have low flow heads, people are putting two or three of them in every shower.

So we use the same amount of water, but have 3x the plumbing castings (and the associated energy costs to make them).

On the subject of plumbing.

Don't buy a dual flush toilet with the button in the tank lid. I bought one at Sam's club and when a seal swelled because I used chlorine tablets. .. ( my fault but hey well water ) finding a flush mechanism was difficult. Spare parts aren't in the big box store or contractor plumbing supply places.

Buy a toilet you can use universal or high quality replacement parts in. Old school levers on the tank. Brand name only for any cute, designer or low volume toilet.

A fancy Koehler is fine. You can get parts. The Chinese knock off. Not so much.

My daughter cheered last night as Sansa fed Ramsey to his dogs. If I didn't know the back story, that would be pretty dark. Actually...it's still pretty dark.

http://www.climatedepot.com/2016/06/25/the-sun-goe s-blank-again-during-the-weakest-solar-cycle-in-mo re-than-a-century/

Low solar activity means more cosmic rays means more high altitude clouds means less solar energy on surface.

Obviously this is a planetary phenomena and not a guide to local weather. It is hot as heck in the South West U.S. despite the lower average overall solar flux. This kind of cooling amplifies weather effects. ( the exact opposite of the Climate Con claims )

This leaves Earth more vulnerable to interstellar radiation gusts & fronts, but there's not a thing we can do about that and we have very few sensors set up to detect that kind of thing. Most of our focus is on Solar radiation & particle flow, since it's the dominant factor in weather and radiation that hits our satellites and space station.

Solar storms, coronal mass ejections, etc. that interact with Earth's magnetic field are causes of electrical grid issues and electronic failure.

Interstellar phenomena that can actually harm anyone here, like a nearby Supernova, would first manifest as high energy photons, gamma rays, arriving at about the same time as the light of the star's destruction. Earth's magnetic field and Solar effects pretty much don't affect photons. The particle storm that follows would be. How bad it will be depends on distance, energy, and the cube square laws. From nothing to worry about to Only those in deep mineshafts live.

Again, nothing we can do about that, except keep a few deep mine shafts stocked with food & water, which is a good idea in case of Cobalt Bombs or a biological warfare attack on a big scale.

The government has some very nice fallout shelters. Greenbriar, for example.

That's a good if meandering read. And interestingly, if anything, it doesn't quite go far enough.

Imagine if someone recognized the problems he is illustrating, and gamed or weaponized that process for explicit ends?

That's been done. Marxism as science.

Put the actor in a white lab coat for the baldness snake oil commercial.

Any so called science that acts like a religion. Jealous god? Nothing on the intolerance of men with a scheme to get power from fear and hate.

To use a different example than the Climate Con, where Democrat Party policy is to prosecute unbelievers.

Racism in education. Blacks are incapable of competing against whites. It's dogma. Over a hundred years of pushing the agenda that it is not the fault of teacher's union policy to protect incompetent teachers that inner city schools produce sub standard students.

It must be, that the blacks are treated unfairly by the system. ( true. Absolutely true. But not as advertised. )

So blacks must be put on the plantation of diminished expectations. Tests must be dumbed down because the schools consistently produce poor results. ( except Catholic schools in the same neighborhoods with the same demographics. They consistently produce better than average results ) Institutional racism disguised as caring.

Not enough group x passing the fire fighter exam? Make the exam easier. Cop exam fails too many blacks. Must be racist. Lower your expectations and dumb down the tests.

Never question the policies of the school system that produces un taught un disciplined products.

This process has been accelerating for fifty years. Graph test scores. It's obvious and pointing that out gets you excommunicated.

At this point it's no longer good intentions with wrong assumptions. It's enemy action.

I do admit the kids doing better than average in a Catholic school have the undeniable advantage that their parent or more rarely parents give a damn about their kid's education.

I also notice that kid's whose parents read to them do much better in life across the board.

And those parents are now considered to be giving their kids an unfair advantage by modern education experts.

That is true.

How motherfracking evil is THAT attitude of the high priests of the education system?

http://fredoneverything.org/the-racism-racket-in-t he-schools/

The 1981 complaints above? Worse today. I've watched.

How many times have you seen a video of a ( right wing ) reporter asking college students history or current events questions and get utter nonsense back?

How many young cannon fodder rally against the capitalist system that produces their cell phones and social media.

Notice how Facebook has become a propaganda tool for it's creator? Banning undesirable speech. Conservative ideas are deleted much faster than ISIS recruiting. .

I wonder what my Facebook page says. ( I never joined, but as Hillary says, what difference does it make? )

On a somewhat lighter note...

And I do apologize for being cranky. I've been stuck at home & doing PT for 2 months... OTOH I may just be able to pull the Cyclone out of the shed without my new knee giving out. ( the old one couldn't )

You enjoy your lifestyle choice. I'll enjoy mine.

https://pjmedia.com/parenting/2016/06/27/dont-tell -me-i-have-to-go-organic/?singlepage=true

As a guy who, somewhat jokingly, tells folk I don't eat food that doesn't have a chemical I can't pronounce, ( Actually I can pronounce them ) I'm not onboard with the Organic fad. I don't own any hemp clothing. ( although I may buy a Utilikilt made from hemp this year )

I cook free range boneless, skinless chicken breasts to the same temperature I cook the steroid laden ones. In fact I'm MORE careful since I trust the mega-conglomerate that sells Organic crap the same as the mega-conglomerate that sells the cheaper, no promises it ever saw the sun crap.

I'm not sure the expensive chicken tastes better. To be fair, skinless, boneless chicken breasts don't taste like much anyway, which is the reason I tend to cook them with some kind of flavoring. If you think organic tastes better, good for you.

Seriously. If you live a neo-hippie lifestyle and buy all your clothing at Justice, and you enjoy it, Good for you.

I Don't care what you eat, who you sleep with, and what you do with your genitalia, as long as it's between consenting adults.

Feel free to not approve of my choices.

I will get testy if you get all holier than thou and try to make me change. Expect me to praise the joys of hunting, how venison is low fat, free range, organic, and how connected with nature I feel after a long stalk, a humane kill and go into excruciating detail on butchering a deer hanging from a tree makes me feel connected to my ancestors. ; )

An interesting editorial on Evolution.

Myself, I think "evolution" is a good hypothesis. Not even close to complete or inclusive, but if you start with 18th century notions and keep updating them to match facts, you get science eventually, or you discard it and think up another explanation. So far, AFAIK, it's up in the air.

Of course evolution doesn't explain the Frost Giants, but they're gone and we have no fossils... so I can just take them on faith. ; )

"I wonder what my Facebook page says. ( I never joined, but as Hillary says, what difference does it make? )"

True story: Never joined Failbook, friends know my reasons. One day I get a call from a close friend asking when I joined said crapbook. I say I didn't and he directs me to a page with my name on it. I attempt to login and what do you know? There was an account in my name with one of the toughest passwords I ever use (not even plausible that someone guessed it or a slight coincident)! I deleted the account right away and contacted the site asking where it came from, but never got any sort of response.

And yes, venison is low fat and tasty! I am the chef for a friends hunting obsession,he always eats what he kills and I cook a big part of it. Had several friends over for a bbq last weekend and prepared a venison roast and a skirt steak. People had no clue they were eating venison...

My Grandfather was a Butcher and I loved his Venison sausage. He mixed in pork to up the fat content. Cooks up tough otherwise.

It takes a good cook to do venison right. The lower fat content makes it wrong for slow cooking, yet the tougher meat calls for slow and low.

What's your take on the best way to do venison steaks?

Persecuting climate skeptics: The cover-up continues

Not only are various state attorneys general seeking to target global warming skeptics using racketeering laws, they are engaging in what seems suspiciously close to racketeering themselves.

“But we’re doing it for your own good!”

“Seventeen attorneys general got more than they bargained for when they held a March 29, 2016 “publicity stunt” press conference to announce, with former Vice President Al Gore by their sides, a campaign to target opponents of the global warming agenda under racketeering laws.

It wasn’t long before several batches of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) emails, obtained by the Energy & Environment Legal Institute (E&E Legal) and Free Market Environmental Law Clinic (FME Law), revealed that the AGs were working behind closed doors with professional “climate” activists, from both pressure groups and law firms. If that isn’t bad enough, they also show a plan for the AGs to coordinate efforts to stonewall public records requests that threaten to expose their scheme.”

Who cares? Hillary won't be charged, and she will be president. This is but a single drop of corruption in the bucket of lawlessness that has been the hallmark of Democrats for the last 30 years.

The only hope for justice now is that she'll be immediately impeached for her crimes, and convicted by the Senate, if the Rs can hold on to their majorities. 'Course, that'll put "Pocahontas" in the oval office, and I doubt lying about your ethnicity is an impeachable offense.
