Not sure where I can find out information about what they will be doing with fights scheduled to arrive at Ataturk since the bombing. My daughter is in Vienna and has a flight to Istanbul in the morning. Just looking for ideas on where to find information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This pop-up message appears on the Turkish Airlines website:

Turkish Airlines

I highlighted the darker blue area at the bottom.

I haven't found any good resource on their website - yet...

Thanks folks, so far everything looks scheduled. I have heard that the US isn't accepting flights from Istanbul. Not sure how to find out if that is true or not. Everything has helped.

I think my wife is madder at me right now because I don't get excited. I don't believe panic or excitement helps anyone or anything in this kind of situation, really burns her to.

Bottom line my daughter IS in Vienna not Istanbul right now. I feel for those who have lost however I have to focus on what it will take to get my daughter home, nothing more.

Panic detracts.

I prefer to be on teams that are their coolest under live fire.

Focus.

If you need help.....ask. Many resources here.

Court,

That is exactly why I came and asked. My mother-in-law chuckled when I told her I asked motorcycle friends for help. Then when I told her there were a lot of people like her boy friend, who is an engineer, she started to understand.

Right now she is at the airport in Vienna and everything is on time. Everything I can find says they will travel as planned. She is with others from JMU who had an art class, one month long, in Vienna. I am still jealous the best I got in college was a 3 week Theater in London class.

I have friends who still want to go four wheelin' with me in the smallest car we can find. They can't grasp how I get the thing out of some of the places we get into. Small dead trees and rocks are not only good for fires. Kids shouldn't sleep through Physics.

So far she has been flown into Istanbul with the others and they are set to depart for DC on schedule. Seems the Turks may have a bit of determination about carrying on.

My boss is over there, somewhere. Nobody's heard from him in a week.

He goes to Turkey every year, sometimes twice. Seems to me like the kind of place I might visit once, and check it off the list. He stays with locals, never in hotels, has a lot of friends there. I'm sure he's fine.

I spent a few weeks in Turkey, awesome place with great food. It's too bad what's going on there and what the government allows to happen.

She has landed at Dulles, now we wait for her to clear customs. She did want to go sight seeing in Istanbul with a 5 hr. layover she was thinking why not. I guess now she sees why not. It truly is a shame because she is so taken by the people and their art. I'm certain she will get back there one day.

I have flown Turkish airlines many times, I'm pleased to say they're one of the best & nicest companies I've ever flown with.

As for Ataturk airport it's a great airport, very busy with very good multi tiered security, which resulted in limited damage & loss of life.

If the same attack had been carried out in most other major airports I fear the death toll would have been much much higher.

Happy she's back.

The history of Turkey is long and complex.

They had the luck to have Attaturk. The number of great leaders that freed their people and left a positive legacy are tiny. Possibly ranked with George Washington.

They've had much worse times. In between being centers of civilization on the edge of chaos, they were consumed by it.

Cross roads of the China caravans going back before western civilization. Port of Asia on the Med.

Troy.
Rome.
Ottoman empire.
The edge of the West.
A military choke point & trading place.

Troy was rich on taxing silk from China, spice from Asia & coral from the red sea. Why do you think the Greeks raided it?

Gave us the standard measure for beauty.
The Millihelen, the amount of beauty to launch one ship.
