I have decided that from now on when my bike breaks down or has issues, as they all do from time to time. I will no longer refer to it as a problem or issue the terminology I will be using is blessed with another learning opportunity.
Because life is truly a matter of perspective
It's all in how you choose to look at it

I've always like Dennis Prager's idea of choosing to be happy. It's not that bad things won't happen to you, but you can control how you deal with things that life throws at you.

I know a fella that runs a pumping service, he's always joking about being knee deep in shit, the back of his honey wagon says "Filled with political promises". Hes a right good fella and is real fun to hang out with and has a really good attitude. You could learn a few things from him

Alf, it's a shame you have to exist in your condition. I pray for you every day. In response to your query, I'll quote a famous rebel...

If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well.

Martin Luther King Jr.

"It is something to be able to paint a picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful. But it is far more glorious to carve and paint the atmosphere in which we work, to affect the quality of the day... This is the highest of the arts."

@Alfau To answers your question where does that leave the sewage worker? Blessed because we live in a world that there is so much shit he will never be out of work!!!!
What was the line from shawshank redemption?
Andy Dufrense Who crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side .

And yes this theory may be flawed but I would rather be flawed and happy then not and unhappy.

"It's easy to grin when your ship comes in and you've got the stock market beat. But the man worthwhile is the one who can smile when his shorts are too tight in the seat" - Judge Elihu Smales

Don't let the troll derail this thread.

It is so much better to know how to fish, than to have a fish.

Over the past year, i've been remodeling my house. I had no idea how to drywall, so i looked it up on youtube, bought the supplies, and just went for it, like a kid riding a bike with no training wheels.

I wrecked a few times and not all of my work was pretty but I got the job done and most importantly, i learned from it. I made mistakes, which was the most important part. I learned from what I did, and in the future, I will know what not to do.

Turning wrenches is the same. Get in there and do it, and learn from it, and enjoy it. Discover the "secrets" that the "experts" don't want you to know (because they want your money!!)

My Gramps was a multi-faceted man. He could fix his car, build a cabin, catch and cook delicious fish, make cabinets, teach Sunday School, give marital advice, there wasn't much he couldn't figure out. I believe that is how God intended man to be. He commanded us to subdue the earth.

Carpe that diem!

The secret to most jobs is............Having the right tool/s. The second thing I do when teaching metal finish is handing the student brand new tools. It's always a challenge to have those tools on hand. But well worth the effort.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

I don't know if we have enough time in life to learn all those qualities since so much of our time is just making a living! Fortunately we all have our own specialties as insects all do the same job, we as humans all have different skills and knowledge and rely on each other to make the world go round.

That's why I always loved Will Rogers quote; "Everybody's ignorant, just in different subjects!"

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4

Perseverance? Is that what you call it. Some call it crazy! Some call it anal! Some call it being Hard Headed! No matter what you call it I think I'm qualified!

Just spent 2 years trying to make a damn Harley run right. I had some expensive ported heads that would not stop leaking at the intakes. I made experimental o-ring flanges. They didn't work. I tried every type of intake seal they make, nothing worked. I finally used an old solid intake manifold that was for racing and put it on the rear jug and took measurements to the front only to find the front head was rotated counter clockwise. I removed the head and then the dowel pins. Put them in a lathe and offset them .010" and then took a .005" cut. I put them back in the cylinders in opposite directions and installed the head. It was close but not enough. I pulled the head and this time took a 1/2" bolt and offset it .015" and made new dowels. By putting them in the cylinders 180 degrees out from each other it rotated the head to where I was within .002" of being parallel between the head and the intake. I installed stock seals and flanges and it finally sealed! Everybody told me I was crazy and I should trade it in on a new one but I just don't like not knowing why!
So it's Perseverance? I guess that's better than crazy!

Having watched you with Froggy's non-performing starter, I'd say that Perseverance is exactly the right descriptive.
