I have a most interesting and amazing opportunity today and, in preparation, was doing some reading and research. I cam upon this quote and thought it was amazing.

quote:

“The wise and the good never form the majority of any large society, and it seldom happens that their measures are uniformly adopted; or that they can always prevent being overborne themselves by the strong and almost never-ceasing union of the wicked and the weak.”

—John Jay

I'd add a few other anti-virtues (or cover them all and just add selfishness), but yes, spot on.

Court, that was true of the American Revolution. It is my understanding most colonists didn't support the war, initially. A small minority changed the course of a colony and ultimately - the world.

If Trump were elected would:
1. A foreign policy which demanded greater military contributions by U.S. Allies lead to a lowering of the U.S. deficit; fewer deaths of American servicemen and a boost to the manufacturing sector by selling huge amounts of additional weapons to U.S. Allies;
2. Negating free trade agreements make U.S. manufacturing more competitive and create more employment;
3. Deporting illegal aliens create more employment;
4. Protecting the borders create a means of stopping the importation of dangerous contraband and the illicit export of weapons. ?

Normally I detest those who just copy/paste instead of expressing their opinions but as in Court's quote from John Jay above, I find my cynicism echoed in the Mencken quote describing my conundrum in this election cycle:

quote:

H. L. Mencken

Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule--and both commonly succeed, and are right... The United States has never developed an aristocracy really disinterested or an intelligentsia really intelligent. Its history is simply a record of vacillations between two gangs of frauds.
